Detroit watched as kals from everywhere began to scramble to get off the ship. The panic she could feel from every side of her became suffocating, to the point of where she moved farther onto the boat just to catch her breathe, attempting to calm herself down through steady breathing. sighing the noises of others no longer felt deafening but instead background noise. she startled when she felt a hand on her shoulder, turning she saw her friend Oliver. She rested her head on the fencing of the deck and mumbled "i'm so broke, and of course the thing that I spent the rest of my money on breaks down. just my luck" she watched as repair kals assessed and started to work on the crash. Oliver smiled "ah well yeah its been bad but look at the bright side, we'll get to explore the island and i'm sure they'll supply us with food and a place to stay until its fixed up. now come on we've got to get off, its not exactly the safest place to be" grabbing her hand he pulled her along, and she noticed that the crowd had cleared up and almost everyone had exited the boat and was exploring the island or making themselves comfortable. she leaned on oliver as he walked foward before all but falling as he picked up an enormous crab "look at him!! what a large lad!! and look at those claws" Oliver rambled with excitement as the giant crab attempted to snap at him. Detroit smiled, maybe it wouldn't be so bad afterall. she had her friends and a seemingly new world to explore.

seems like you're stuck for a bit, but your kalon has the day free! what's the first thing they want to do on the island?

lavendel stood upon the boardwalk, gazing curiously out towards the small town town in the distance, her gaze skipping between the quaint housing. she had planned her time in accordance to the activities on the ship, so what was she to do now? the kalon shifted her attention to the other vacations, who seemed to be steadily dispersing, off to do their own thing. after exhaling a slow, steady breath, lav took off towards the town, walking slow enough to give herself a few extra moments to think.

just as she reached she reached the end, seemingly set on reaching civilization, she quickly turned and padded down the small slope that headed to the beach. she discarded her sandals next to one of the dock's wooden posts, then continued down the sandy expanse. she needed to clear her head. as much as she didn't want to admit it, even to herself, the cruise's derailment had successfully shaken her up. it would be nice to have some time alone, away from all the other vacationers, to calm herself. of course, she hadn't been the only one to choose the beautiful beach, so she continued until she rounded the corner and found herself alone. it was surprisingly tranquil. gently setting herself down on a fallen palm tree, lav gazed out towards horizon.

What's the first thing they want to do on the island?

What should I do?

Fuji thinks for a bit, considering his options. His favorite island activity is snorkeling, so he decides that he would give it a try.


Gathering the gear.

It took quite a while trying to find out where any snorkeling gear would be. He asked around the island but none of the other vacationers seemed to know. He decided that if anyone would have the gear, it would either be on the ship or some of those that live on the island might have some to lend. He searched the ship to find anyone who might be able to point him in the right direction, but couldn’t find anyone but the Bartender and the Casino Runners. None of them knew where any gear would be, so he said that it was fine and asked the locals.

The whale watcher group leader only had binoculars to see the whales with, the blonde kal was back to splitting more rocks and was too busy to answer. Egg and Captain were busy combing the beach but managed to tell Fuji that they didn’t have the equipment he needed. He didn’t have any luck with the chef either. Feeling defeated, Fuji decided to just relax and have a talk with Timothy.

After walking along the beach, he finally stumbled upon the kid, happily looking at the sea stars the others managed to collect for him. Fuji wished he could’ve found another one after that weird and overly talkative sea star he found, but ended up empty handed. Though, Fuji was glad that everyone else pitched in and was able to create a hill of unique critters for the kid. It made Fuji feel better to see the youngling happy, for Tim reminded Fuji of the school kids. He looked sad, thinking for a moment that he may never be able to see them or his mother again, but the cheerfulness of some of the other passengers and the smiles his friends shared all made him feel better.

Once Timothy looked up, he noticed Fuji staring at the ocean. The small kid got up and ran over to Fuji happily. “Mako said we couldn’t do a big bonfire on the beach because of safety,” the kid pouts, but he looks back up at Fuji with excitement, “buuuut that doesn’t mean we still can’t have fun! Why don’t you pick somethin’ to do and we can try it out!” Fuji looked down at the kid with a warm smile. “That sounds like fun kiddo, but problem is that nobody seems to have the items I need to do what I wanna do.” Tim blinked and tilted his head. “What do ya mean sir?” “Well, I usually go snorkeling when I go to the beach. We have a small one a little while away from town, and I would always go anytime I could,” he explained, “but I’ve asked all around if anyone had the equipment to-“ “Mommy has some!!” Tim said squeaking, jumping up and down. “What?” Fuji asked. “My mommy has some snorkels! She used to do it all the time but hasn’t done it lately, I’ll go see if she will let ya borrow her’s!” He said purposefully. “You stay here, I’ll be riiiiiight back!” Before Fuji could even say anything, the kid was already running home.


Underwater.


Oh it’s been a while since he’d last been able to do this. Tim had gotten the go ahead to let Fuji use her gear but because it was getting dark, Fuji explained that the kid shouldn’t go in the water just Incase. He didn’t mean to be unfair, even if it was dangerous, he was a little bit selfish in wanting to relive the memory of the last time he had swam near the ocean floor. Back at home, there wasn’t much to look see. Everything about his town was small, and that included the beach, though he loved it more than anything else. It was the only time he could explore and see something new for once. Water had always been tranquil to him, and snorkeling made him feel at one with the ocean.


It wasn’t like home at all.

It was better.

He swam for a while, not really searching, he just wanted to feel the tranquility like at home. It was chance that he had stumbled upon the most gorgeous coral reef he had ever seen. Not that he has personally seen a coral reef before, but he had watched Nemo before and the real thing definitely beat the cgi version. It was colorful and full of life, it was dark above the waves but the jellyfish and plant life illuminated the reef and Fuji cried under his goggles. He was able to see fish he never thought he would be able to see, and saw all kinds of colors as the coral created a rainbow under the waves.


Return to land.

He hadn’t excepted to see the kid when he returned, and he definitely didn’t expect to cry in front of him. His tears streamed down his face, but the darkness hid his tears. His voice had a quiver in it when he spoke. “T-thanks kid, It was real pretty down there in the reef.” He took off the snorkel and handed it to Tim. “You better get back home though, I don’t want your mom to worry.” — He watched Tim run back home happily and he started to walk back to his “home” as well. One things for sure, he won’t forget his cruise.

What's the first thing they want to do on the island?

Being stuck on a tropical island certainly isn't the worst place to be. The ship's problems are someone else's to worry about, so the essentially the passengers just needed to wait it out in this wonderful place. Not for the first time, Annie thanked her lucky stars they'd been close enough to dock here. There were so many things to do here, and the people were so welcoming!

It was ironic, really, that with all of these activities to choose from, she was having a hard time deciding on what to do.

Did she check out the island shops? Make some new friends? Perhaps explore some of the jungle areas to enjoy the nature and exotic animals? There were so many options, she was almost getting frustrated, trying to figure out what to do. Letting out a sigh, she gave herself a shake, and decided to let her feet wander where they pleased.

They took her through the town, and towards the beach. A few other Kalons had made their way here, and were out swimming in the pristine water or wandering the shoreline. She took in a deep breath of fresh, tangy salt air, and felt herself relax.

Down to the rock pools she went, peering into the little pockets of water and wildlife. A few kits were around as well, and babbled on about their favorite sea creatures for awhile. They seemed excited at having someone new to talk to, and so she stayed and listened until they moved on to a different place. She went back to the sand, slipping of her shoes as she did so. It felt good to feel the soft sand between her toes. Living in the city, it wasn't often that she got to do this.

She found a quiet spot on the beach and sat down, closer to the damper ground, but not enough to be uncomfortable to sit on. Scrunching her toes into the thicker sand, she giggled at the feeling. Then she decided - why not? - let's build a sandcastle. She hadn't made one since she was a kid, and she knew her younger self would have loved this unexpected journey.

She used her hands as scoops to dig into the sand and mold it together to form a vague castle shape. Well, more of a dome, really. A sand igloo, perhaps. Carefully carve out some windows, a door, maybe add a little chimney…perhaps a moat around the outside, that was always fun...add a little leaf flag…perfect!

Well.

Perfectly imperfect, really.

"That's really cool," she heard someone squeak, and turned to see the kits from before hovering over her shoulder. "Can we make some with you?"

"That's very sweet of you to say," she replied, cheeks going pink. "And of course you can! Go right ahead."

"We can make a whole sandcastle village!" another one said excitedly. "I'll start getting seashells!" Without waiting for a response, they'd already started running down to the shoreline. The other two plonked themselves down near Annie, already beginning talks of what buildings to make and where things would go. She smiled to herself, watching them plan things out. Looks like she'd chosen the right place to be after all.
