Day: 7
Prompt:
Being the only one of the gang to actually have explored the vastness of the oceans in their world, there is no doubt that Finnia Kyma has seen some things.
But one of the most rattling things she has experienced had to be on a day Peregrine Falcon didn't visit her.
She had been resting on the shore, awaiting his arrival. But when her comrade didn't show up by sundown, Finny knew he wouldn't be coming to visit her on that day. The brown, fish-tailed doodle shrugged it off and thought that he may just have had something important to do- after all, coming to see her by the beach wasn't the only think Perry ever did in his life. But it was one of the only things she did in her life. Though she did have other hobbies, there weren't that many. And meeting up with Peregrine was her favorite thing to do.
Alas, she wouldn't be able to do anything about that but wait the next day to see if he would turn up. She quietly trudged back from the shoreline to the shallows and slipped into the water. But before she could fully submerge herself, she saw a ribbon-like figure come out of the sea and dive back into the water. It was a subtle movement, one she caught out of the corner of her bright green eyes, but something that piqued her curiosity.
Now, Finny may not be the socially outgoing type, so others peg her as plain and quiet- the type to just stay at home and maybe take naps all day. But you see, Finny was an adventurous soul. She may not really look the part, but when given the chance, she sets out to explore the vastness of her home.
Paddling quickly but softly enough so that she wouldn't be heard, she let her gills open up and took to the deeper parts of the sea, following the strange figure she saw skulking around.
It was long. Long and graceful. It swam by swirling around like a ribbon manipulated by a dancer performing on stage.
Finny was entranced. She felt captivated by the spiralling movement. Her eyes trailed the creature as it began its descent. Deeper and deeper it went, and Finny had to start squinting to see it. It wasn't until she felt the weight of the water pressure seize her ribs that she realized she'd gotten too deep.
Finnia's gills tightened, and she struggled to swim upwards. The last thing she remembered seeing was a twisting blur of deep blue and shimmering green approach her slowly.
Finny opened her eyes and gasped for air, her gills immediately closing up upon breaching the surface. Her complicated respiratory system was- well, complicated to say the least -but the water that filled her lung sacs made it seem even more jumbled, even to her. She took a deep breath of air before sinking below the surface of the salt water and re-opening her gills.
Wait- how did she get back up here ?
A sudden chill ran down her spine, and she looked frantically at her surroundings.
Pondering the possibilities of what had just happened made her feel uneasy, and she decided to swim back to the shore.
Leviathans were a thing of legend. But she knew of far too many existences of organisms unknown to other doodles, so she definitely thought that it was one she'd just encountered.
Well, whatever it was that helped her back up to the surface, she was grateful for. But being out in the open waters didn't make her feel safe at the moment. She swam cautiously, looking behind her every once in a while.
Perry was definitely going to want to hear this.
