Draw/Write about an adventure they went on: I stared out the car window, the pit in my stomach growing bigger and bigger. Today was the day I test my powers on the course. The others had already done it, and I was the first one who had to do it twice. The first time I did it, I nearly killed myself. I'm hoping the same won't happen again today. There's a course for me to burn a mile of hay, and another for me to blow cars a few miles away with my air powers. But before, a few testing courses.
"We're here," my mother said, getting out from the car. I opened my door and climbed out as well. I wanted to sink into the ground and never come back out. I walked over to the first course. I gathered all the energy in me some flow out, feeling searing pain in my paws as the fire came out. I took a sharp intake of air. I can't tell if it was the energy or the fire that hurt me. I raised my gaze from the ground and saw I only burnt 8 out of 10 haystacks. I felt my face blushing in embarrassment.
"It's fine, Jay," a judge whispered. I nodded, my gaze drifting back to the ground as I walked to the other course. This had 6 haystacks instead of 10. I do the same thing again, and when I opened my eyes I noticed they were all burnt to a crisp. I let a small smile slip, as the judges scored the paper. I did the air courses, before heading onto the first main course. This will determine if I have to go through another year of training or not.
I stuff as much air as I can into my lungs, then letting it go to my paws. Then I let everything go, with as much force as possible. I began to feel dizzy. The ground swarmed underneath my paws. But I refused to stumble and let the judges see me. I walked toward the car, measuring it.
"4.2 miles!" I shouted, coming back. I got into one of the cars and drove to the next course. Normally, I wouldn't be allowed to drive, but my mother wasn't here right now. I arrived at the fire course. I didn't think I could make it. I was correct,
"Start!" One of the judges shouted. I took all my energy to my paws. I let it all loose. A sharp stabbing pain jerked my head to the side. I lost focus, and my fire went swerving to the side. I had set the grass on fire. I collapsed, heaving, and my vision started to go dark. I finally let in to sleep.
I woke up in a forest. "What?" I whispered to myself.
"What do you mean?" A voice came from above. It was a soothing voice, calm and pleasant. I looked up to see robed female with gold chains draped around her body. "I am the Enchantress of the Wild Wood. Who are you?"
I answered, "Jay Lunesworth." She nodded and gave me a list and a leather bag.
-arrow of poison
-rotten leaf of darkest oak
-blood of herbalist
-flower of lace from the red road
I asked her what it was.
"I need these. I will allow you one wish if you get me these items," the Enchantress answered. I nodded, took the list and went to the darkest part of the forest, searing for the darkest oak. I found one and climbed up the tree. I looked around it, before finally finding one on the ground. I thought it was too easy. Oh well.
An arrow of poison? Isn't there one around? I thought. I went out of the forest, and looked for an archery shop. I ran towards 'Arrow & Co' but then I saw it. The 'CLOSED' sign. And fortunately, an arrow was laying on the ground with a green tag reading poison. I grabbed it and stuffed it inside the bag. "Okay, next, blood of herbalist." So a dying herbalist. Great job, Jay. You're gonna be a murder. I ran towards an apocathery I saw about a block down from the arrow shop. A mournful wail came from the open door. I slowly walked inside, to see the herbalist laying on the ground, clutching her finger. A paper cut. "Can I have a drop of your blood? It's for a friend who needs it for an experiment." The herbalist nodded and let me take a drop of blood from her paper cut and put it into a vial. I thanked her and walked off.
This was all too easy. I followed the red road and found a sign saying Lace Flower. I went into the cave, then heard the rock slam. I spun around, heart in my throat. The doorway I used was shut.
Grrr... Umm, WHAT was THAT? I turned around and saw the lace flower. I tried to grab it, then noticed it was on a large hairy thing. My eyes widened. Then two eyes blinked open from the hairy thing.
"Oh hello! I'm Bigfoot," said Bigfoot. I gasped, then regained myself. "May I have that lace flower?"
"Oh, this thing? Sure! But why?" he asked. I answered for a collection. Bigfoot took it off his back and gave it. I thanked him and ran off to the Enchantress. "Enchantress! Enchantress!" I shouted.
"Yes?" She asked, letting me inside her hut. I opened the bag and let the items spill out. She gasped and quickly gathered the items in her paws with a swooping motion of her arm. She dumped them into a pot and turned the stone up until blue flames were leaping around the pot.
"What do you desire, Jay?" The Enchantress asked.
"I want to be able to use my powers. Like, without nearly dying every time." She nodded, and murmured something into the pot. I hear a few whispers, unrecognizable words. I felt my brows furrow as I tried to make sense of it. I started to lose hope, think that she was a con. The Enchantress looked at me sharply before rushing into her small pantry. She came out with a basket full of herbs, flowers, and vials. I looked at her, puzzled.
"Granted," the Enchantress rasped.
Odd, I thought. The Enchantress took about a third of the basket's herbs and put them in a bowl, then poured some water into it. A drop from a vial, a few words. Another bowl, she dumped the rest of the herbs with two vials, glass and all. To my surprise, she smashed the vials and let them stir into the rest. My heart began to speed up. I don't know why, it just did. She took the rest of the basket's contents and put them in a final bowl. She then mixed everything into one bowl. I stared, captivated by what she was doing and how the Enchantress seemed to know exactly what she was doing. Putting the bowl onto the ancient stove, she turned to me.
"How?" She asked. I tilted my head, blind to what she was asking me. "The items. No one has ever been able to get them. No one but you."
"It was easy. All I did was go toe the archery shop, and the arrow was laying there." I continued talking as the pot simmered. She nodded thoughtfully as I spoke. When I was done, she got up and turned the stove off and lifted the bowl. The glass, flowers, and herbs seemed to be a liquid now. The Enchantress poured the stuff into a small cup and handed it to me. I stared into it. It seemed as if she was poisoning me. But I drank it anyway. It was hot, spicy, and weird. I could feel the liquid making it's way to my stomach.
Suddenly, I saw the ground swarming up at me. I heard the bowl shatter, and I fell asleep.
The next thing I know, I'm in the hospital.
"He's alive! He's alive!" A voice shouted. I could tell it was my mother. I blinked, and looked up at her. My lungs were burning, like I couldn't get enough air. "What happened to me?"
"You don't remember?" My father asked after he hugged me. I shook my head. He explained that I had been in a coma for a long time, since the training course.
"Can I retry the course?" I asked.
"Oh, honey, it doesn't matter. You nearly killed yourself!" My mother said. I repeated what I said. My father sighed, and finally nodded. A nurse walked in. She checked the fluids hooked up to me.
A month later after that, I was healthy. I had passed the course, and I can finally use my powers like the rest of my family.
THE END
