Bioluminescence
bio·lu·mi·nes·cence noun \ˌbī-ō-ˌlü-mə-ˈne-sən(t)s\
- The biochemical emission of light by living organisms such as deep sea fish, glow-worms and jellyfish.
- The light emitted by said organisms.
"Bioluminescence accepts that her name is hard for people to pronounce, yep. *nods sagely* But Bioluminescence offers you a respite from this, uh huh! You can call this Kiamara Luminesce... Oh, is that still too long? *droops* But Bioluminescence likes that people can't pronounce her name... It's amusing. This Kiamara doesn't get this nickname thing... But this Kia has been called Kagayaku by colleagues before. It's apparently Japanese for Luminesce, or to emit light. In fact, barely anyone calls this Kia Bioluminesce anymore... This Kiamara might as well introduce herself as Kagayaku."
Not much of a name, huh? I agree. Kagayaku, on the other hand, likes to confuse people with her long, scientific term of a name. She literally named herself. I was looking at this Kiamara during one of my many 'I really want this, but I shouldn't try out' sessions over the last couple of days, and just happened to think 'Hmmm... Jellyfish are bioluminescent.' And now I can't think of her as anything else. D:The dark blue hues of her pelt, contrasted with her bright, luminous aqua spots creates a beautiful effect reminiscent of of Bioluminescence. Kagayaku, I thought up because Bioluminescence is very obviously not a name. It reminded me of a girl I know who has a very strange, old fashioned name. As a result, everyone calls her Happy instead. This prospect, of having everyone accept you under a completely different name, has always intrigued me, especially as I tend to introduce myself in real life by my Internet name, Mero, as I prefer it. Thus the final piece of the puzzle was in place in my head, for this intriguing and strangely captivating Kiamara. Yes, I could call her by the ridiculous name of Bioluminescence, as it ties in with her character. However, I could also give her the catchy, awesome sounding name of Kagayaku. The girl Kiamara everyone knows as simply 'Kagayaku', with her boundless energy, strange verbal quirk and love of the sea, as well as everything to do with... Well, I won't spoil it.
Gender: Female
"Does this Kia really have to affirm this? Bioluminescence will take it as a compliment that you asked! It means you are clearly admiring this Kiamara's beautiful coat colours. Blue is more masculine, you say? Well, Bioluminescence knows for a fact that blue was originally associated with females and the Virgin Mary. In fact, pink was considered the 'stronger' colour and used for boys! It was only after WWI, where the uniforms were blue, that blue became a masculine colour."
Originally I saw this Kia (Oh no, I sound like her now XD) as male. It was her gradient horns and purple detailing that gave her a delicate appearance to me and made her more feminine... I also consider jellyfish feminine. I have no idea why.
Poem: (Regular rhyme scheme, no form)
Child of the ocean, she plays games in the waves
Fending back the tides to spend more precious
Time in this place, in her element; water
Sitting on the beach, every shell, every cave,
Every strand of slick seaweed washed up on the sand,
Goes unnoticed in favour of the great
blue expanse,
The ocean she loves, and the shore it does lave
Swift
currents tug at fur, pulling her down
To where jellyfish float in their hundreds,
Electricity dancing along translucent forms
In this domain she longs to wears the crown
Be the queen of the ocean; swim and talk with the
Fish, silver scales flashing in filtered sunlight,
But here, now, reality rules this lively ghost town,
And Kiamaras are not made to breath underwater
Secrets to the world above, on dry land
'Surface,' fish murmur, 'Or else you will drown.'
(Free Verse)
Jellyfish drift like plastic bags in the
currentSparking with coloured
electricity, they float
Past disbelieving pearly eyes
Endless
blue calls her softly to it once
Again, she will return to the sea.
Favourite word: Logical.
log·i·cal adjective \ˈlä-ji-kəl\
- : of, relating to, involving, or being in accordance with logic
- skilled in logic
- formally true or valid : analytic, deductive
- capable of reasoning or of using reason in an orderly cogent fashion <a logical thinker>
"Bioluminescence loves this word!" *hums happily* "The harsh 'k' sound of the c, the crispness of the whole word, how simple and neat it is — Ah, wonderful. This Kiamara holds this as the highest compliment of all; it means she's on task! She's doing everything right and in the best way possible! That's why 'logical' is Kagayaku's favourite word!"
What else can I possibly add? XD They're all my thoughts on the word 'logical', one of my favourites as well. I will, however, say that Bioluminescence likes the idea of being called logical so much because she loves to show others up with her intelligence. Her happy-go-lucky attitude, sweet behaviour and tendency to speak in third person makes Kias think of her as ditsy, which she hates. Why are people with bubbly personalities automatically classed as stupid?
"There is another word, but it's not exactly a word. This Kiamara just wanted to include it for the fun of it. You see, Kagayaku spent a while at a judo club, and she found the coolest throw in the word! It's so fun to say!
Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi! Say that quickly, Kagayaku dares you!"
It's a real throw, and one of my favourites. Recently I won an argument at my club to say that Sasae was the coolest sounding throw. Of course it is. It's a foot sweep! ;) (The direct translation of Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi is 'propping drawing ankle sweep'). Just in case you care. XD
Personality:
"Bioluminescence has to describe her own personality? Hmm... Ah, this is hard you know! She supposes she can do it as an introduction kind of thing — but she should be working!
So, hey there! This Kiamara is Bioluminescence, a five year old Kiamara female working as a marine biologist, and commonly known as Kagayaku! This Kiamara likes... Her work, and jellyfish. Aren't they just the most adorable squishy things you've ever seen?! Did you know that jellyfish have been found in every ocean on the planet, and freshwater too? Their bodies are made up of more than 90% water, and their skin is so thin that their blood is oxygenated through diffusion! They really are fascinating creatures. Kagayaku dislikes people that think just because she's hyper all the time, she must be stupid, and also birds. Urgh. This Kia hates the things. They eat jellyfish — how could they?!
Kagayaku's hobbies are... Working, and also swimming or scuba diving. Any chance she can get to be in the water, she'll jump on it in a flash! Her dream is to be the best marine biologist there is; everyone will have to come to Kagayaku for answers! Ano, this Kiamara does have one other great love in her life... But Kagayaku won't say. You'll laugh at her."
Bioluminescence is a bubbly, cheerful Kiamara who loves everything about the ocean. She is immensely committed to her work, and desires to be the best possible. An inspiration quote she lives by is “An invincible determination can accomplish almost anything and in this lies the great distinction between great men and little men.” (Thomas Fuller). Unfortunately for her colleagues, 'Kagayaku''s determination manifests itself in the form of seemingly ceaseless energy and drive. She can come across as hyper and air headed on first meeting, but if you get her onto the subject of her work you would soon see how much of a fool you had been, to judge this puzzling book by her cover. Her strangest trait is her insistence to only speak in third person, like a child. Many Kias put it down to the amount of work she must have done in her childhood, to know as much as she does, and therefore the lack of playing she must have done. Still, this Kiamara is kind, polite and humble and can find it within her heart to love almost anything... Except birds, and squid. They majorly freak her out.
The truth is, Kagayaku has one other thing she loves so much it rivals the sea... And it's completely unrelated. In fact, it comes as a shock to most.
That thing is everything to do with motorcycles. Maybe a Kiamara cannot ride one, but Bioluminescence can fix them up and tinker with them to get them in perfect 'health', and ride them in her human form. She considers them just as alive as her beloved jellyfish. Besides, neither of them have brains. So why is one alive and the other not?

Theme song:
Open up the map, trace out the route,
Off to places we've only seen in photos
Will it be sunny tomorrow? Better check the forecast;
Who knows, really, it's been half-and-half
My favorite beige gloves,
My worn-toed boots
Easygoing, let's take it easy
I've got my rainwear all packed already,
So come rain or leeks,
I'll be all set!
Kicking it into gear, you're in high spirits
The engine rumbles on the beat,
Making my tummy tickle
Is this magic you've cast on me?
It's the same road I've always known, yet it excites me so...
Before I know it, I'm at a seaside town,
And the sea breeze makes me feel a bit more mature
The sparkling sun sets, lighting up the water,
And the shadows chase us down
My usual single jacket,
My chic brown-leather helmet
Easygoing, let's drop in while we're here
Anyway, no need to worry about time;
Work's covered for tomorrow,
So sure, go back to sleep!
Suddenly, you seem somehow upset
The engine rumbles on the beat,
Indicating a grumbling tummy
Is this magic you've cast on me?
You're only running, but your stomach's soon to run on empty...
My fingertips have gotten cold, so I breathe out into them
There - I duck through automatic doors into a convenience store
Your wonderful, heated heart softly whispers:
"We can keep going!" "Go, go further still!"
You seem to say...
On chilly nights, you're in high spirits
The engine rumbles on the beat,
And with a refreshing shower, gets to cool down
Is this magic you've cast on me?
This coffee's usually much too sweet, but it seems so much tastier...
Kicking it into gear, you're in high spirits
The engine rumbles on the beat,
Making my tummy tickle
Is this magic you've cast on me?
Take me along wherever you like, anytime...
Good night!
