Here:

If 3a-b= 0 and a+2b = 14
then 3a+6b=42 ( You times all of a+2b by 3 including the answer)

So you do a symoltanious equation:

3a-b=0 _
3a+6b=42

= -7b=-42
=> b=6

Then you put b=6 into the equation and get 3a-6=0 => 3a= 6 => a=2
