Gracie's animal companion is a lone female bottlenose dolphin named Whistle that likes to visit the beach Gracie lives near. Despite that, she is still perfectly able to swim, and does so with Gracie all the time, but she prefers to stick to the shallows rather than head out to open water most of the time. They consider each other kindred spirits, as neither of them prefer the company of their own kind.

They met under unfortunate circumstances, as Gracie found Whistle stranded on the beach after a particularly nasty storm. Gracie had rolled her onto a human-made tarp that washed up nearby and used that to drag the poor dolphin back into the ocean. Gracie still has that tarp, just in case.
