Name: CoR's Flying Through The Sea "Kailani"
Gender: Male
Name Meaning: a hawaiian name that means “the sea and sky.”
Prompt: 5 times Synnefo caught Kailani staring (and 1 time he caught her.)
1. The Riverbank
The river glistened under the afternoon sun, cool water swirling around Synnefo’s paws as she stepped onto the bank, shaking droplets from her cream and white coat. A few stray beads clung to her black freckles, catching the light.
She stretched, rolling her shoulders, only to feel it. That steady, golden heat pressing against her.
She turned. Kailani stood a few steps away, his dark blue and red coat damp from the mist, golden eyes locked on her. Watching.
Synnefo raised a brow, her tail flicking. “Something on my face?”
Kailani blinked, slow and unreadable. Then, like a shutter snapping closed, the warmth in his gaze cooled, his ears twitching as he looked away. “Just surprised you didn’t fall in.”
Liar.
2. The Campfire Glow
The fire crackled, warm against the night’s chill. Shadows danced over Synnefo’s fur, painting her in flickering golds and deep shadows.
She laughed at something one of the others said, but when she turned her head.. there he was.
Still. Quiet. Watching.
Her brown and blue eyes met his golden ones across the fire. He didn’t flinch, didn’t look away.
She tilted her head, lips curving. “You need something?”
A beat of silence. Then he exhaled, looking back at the flames. “Nah. Just thinking.”
Synnefo hummed, dragging her gaze from him, but she could still feel it. That quiet intensity, as if he was still watching.
And she didn’t quite know why that made her chest feel tight.
3. The Training Field
The air buzzed with energy, the scent of trampled grass and dirt thick in the afternoon sun.
Synnefo spun, dodging Kailani’s strike by mere inches. He was fast, faster than she’d expected.. but she was faster.
Or so she thought.
She pivoted, ready to strike, when she saw it again.
That damn look.
Synnefo stumbled mid step. “Kailani.”
His lips twitched. “Hmm?”
She scowled, circling him warily. “You’re supposed to be blocking, not staring.”
Golden eyes gleamed. “Can’t help it. You fight funny.”
A growl curled in her throat, but it was drowned out by the way her heart was suddenly pounding.
4. The Rainstorm
Thunder rumbled in the distance, low and soft, as rain dripped from the branches above. Synnefo sat beneath the thick oak, shaking the water from her coat with a huff.
Beside her, Kailani was silent.
Too silent.
She turned her head.. and there it was again. That unwavering gaze, golden eyes like molten sunlight in the dim gray light.
A slow breath. A heartbeat of hesitation.
Then she sighed, tilting her head toward him. “Kailani, if you’re going to keep looking at me like that, at least tell me why.”
His ears twitched. “Haven’t decided yet.”
Her breath caught, just for a moment.
She scoffed, looking away. But the air between them felt different now. Like something unspoken had settled in the space between them.
5. The Sunrise Walk
The morning air was crisp, the horizon painted in hues of rose and gold. Synnefo walked ahead, the soft crunch of earth beneath her paws the only sound.
She didn’t have to turn to know he was there.
Didn’t have to turn to feel his gaze on her.
But this time, she did.
He didn’t look away.
He just stood there, golden eyes steady. Waiting.
Synnefo’s breath hitched, the moment stretching too long, too deep.
She said nothing. And neither did he. But something shifted between them once more.
And she didn’t think she wanted to shift it back.
+1. The One Time He Caught Her
It was quiet. Just the two of them, the firelight casting long shadows along the ground.
Kailani wasn’t speaking.. just sitting there, ears flicking absently. The golden glow softened the sharp edges of his face, warming the deep blue and red of his fur.
And Synnefo… stared.
She wasn’t sure how long. Long enough for the fire to die down. For her own breathing to slow.
Then his golden eyes snapped to hers.
She went rigid.
Kailani smirked, slow and knowing. “Something on my face?”
Heat flooded her cheeks, her tail flicking as she turned away. “Just surprised you didn’t fall asleep yet.”
A low chuckle. “Sure.”
