Owner: p i n e a p p l e
Name: Mannelig
Gender: Stallion
Prompt: From the Swedish medieval/folk ballad "Herr Mannelig", about a troll proposing to a young man and giving false promises of wondrous gifts (such as twelve steeds, twelve mills, a gilded sword and a silken shirt) if he marries her. The song is a personal favorite with old Swedish and classic folk characteristics in the singing style. It was first recorded in 1877 as a folk song of the Södermanland region, but variants do exist.
Gamarna has a great recording of the song -
here is a version with an English translation.
