Name: Viper
Collar Design: Something to match the snake, maybe with a sun?
Prompt:
“Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch-”
Young Viper gasped and pulled her covers over her eyes as her brother slashed his hoof through the air and flashed his teeth. Since when was Alice In Wonderland so scary? There’s nothing wonderful about this!
“Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
Viper shrieked as vibrant images flashed behind her clenched eyelids, no doubt aided by her brother’s haunting voice.
“Kelvey! Viper is supposed to be sleeping, not terrified at this hour!” Her mother’s voice echoed up the stairs, as if calling from a far off land. Her brother continued, unperturbed.
“The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood-”
Viper moaned in terror, sensing the Jabberwocky’s approach as Kelvey leaned in.
“That’s enough, Kelvey!”
“But, Ma, it’s not even to the good part! It’s get better-”
“Now!”
“Okay…” Viper sensed the Japperwocky’s retreat, but dared only peak open one eye.
Her brother was gone.
“And burbled as it came!”
Viper shrieked and tumbled off the opposite side of her bed, away from her brother as he trotted to the door, laughing all the while.
“Sleep tight, little Viper, and don’t let the Jabberwock bite!”

Had Viper made it to the end of the tale, she, like the poem’s hero and her brother, might have “chortled in her joy,” but alas, she will never forget the pure fear that gripped her innocent heart that night, and all of her other “fears” will ever pale in comparison!
