In the Golden City there are many different areas that are full of magic. The Stoney sea just beyond the tower, with its waves of sapphire sea water spraying along the jewel encrusted rocks. Or the Forest surrounding the The golden city itself, full of mysterious creatures with golden leaves falling from the trees and littering the paths to other Marumi homes. Then there was a cave of Alabaster, wedged in the mountain that led into a series of caves leading all around the world the Marumi's lived in. Down a lonely path, filled with opal and amethyst, if you just went a little further than you might have wanted to you would come upon a well.

The well was known to many but seen by few, it was said that if you threw a coin with your worries etched on it into the well, by the next year all those worries would be washed away. A small amount of time to wait, in the lives of gods. A small Marumi made its home here in this cave, near the well. Stalking and watching those would would rarely come by over the thousands of years they have been down here. They were slick and white, with bits of black adorned on their slender body. They were quiet and quick to withdrawal if they thought they might be seen. Until one day they were not quite quick enough.

Asteroid had many worries, so hearing about the well she obviously wanted to attempt her way through the caves many tunnels to find the thing. it did not take her long to find the well, but she also found something else she was not expecting when she did. At first, she pretended not to see the other Marumi hiding beneath the shadows, until she was able to distract them and pop up behind them.
"I see you!" Asteroid would shout, causing a little meep to come from the other Marumi. She had been caught.

prompt;; the evergloom hummed with the past promise of life inflicted upon it by the radiant lands, the scent of the earth's rich mud and fallen leaves looming in the air. necoria walked with grace no mortal could, each step intentional and timed, as her tail drug behind her, small mushrooms sprouting before quickly withering where she walked. the goddess of decay - she'd roamed her domain each day, making sure all was in order, guiding lost souls, and easing their pain.

then, beneath the towering trees and twisting vines, she noticed a disturbance in the distance. a soft glowing light, too pure, too bright, to belong to the evergloom. with hardly any effort, she turned, her tail dragging what seemed to be five paces behind her, as she headed for the light. as she neared, the air grew lighter, almost warm - a sharp contrast to the usual cold, damp atmosphere.

as she nealed down, her unruly hair in her face, she peered at the blackened, dead leaves. atop them, there it laid. a much smaller creature, unlike anything necoria had ever seen before. its form was small, delicate, pale as the moonlight that casted above them, with soft, dewy fur that shimmered in the dim light. its wings were folded tightly against its body, their translucent surface glowing with a gentle, otherworldly light. its large, obsidian eyes peered up at necoria with an innocent curiosity that made necoria pause, hesitate.

the creature seemed lost, out of place, as if it didn't belong here, yet it showed no fear to the goddess of decay. it watched her with a childlike wonder, tilting its head, and a soft purr emitted from its chest as it shifted closer to her, seemingly seeking warmth or comfort.

necoria studied the small creature for a moment, her thoughts contemplative and heavy. this being did not belong here - it was too soft, too pure, for a place where death reigned. and yet, here it was, nestled in her domain, unharmed by the decay and rot surrounding it.

she bent, extending her dark, vine-covered antlers toward the creature. it sniffed, then nuzzled against her, purring once more, seemingly unbothered by the dark magic coursing through her veins. she felt no fear, no resistance, from it, only warmth and trust - a warmth necoria had not felt in eons.

she couldn't leave it here, not for the rot to inevitably take it. though she was not one to typically intervene with life's cycle, necoria gathered it in her embrace, her shadows protectively forming around it. she would take it to a place where it could thrive, far from the grasp of the death, decay, and rot she so embraced - the veil.

keeping the creature close, she vanished into the heavy fog of the evergloom, her quiet footsteps leaving behind a faint whisper of life admist the ever-present decay. [476/500]

The villagers spoke of a fairy Marumi—small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yet mighty enough to shape dreams. It was said to live in the ancient forest, where magic still breathed in the shadows of the trees.

The trail I followed was more a suggestion than a path, a winding line of crushed lavender and soft moss that seemed to glow faintly in the early morning mist. As I ventured deeper, the usual sounds of the forest—birdsong, rustling leaves—faded, replaced by a soft hum, like the distant ringing of tiny bells. I paused, heart racing, feeling a tug in my chest like a pull toward something just out of sight.

And then, I saw it.

A flicker of light, no larger than a firefly, darted through the trees ahead. My breath caught as the light grew brighter, swirling in soft spirals. I approached, each step careful, my feet sinking into the mossy ground as if the forest itself were cradling my movements.

Suddenly, the light burst into a cascade of shimmering colors, and there, in the center of the clearing, was the fairy Marumi. It stood no taller than a teacup, its silken coat powdered in soft pink and contrasted sharply with black. A pair of delicate, translucent wings fluttered softly on its back, and its long horn stayed proud in the center of its forehead. Its eyes, like twin drops of night sky, looked at me with a curious, knowing gaze.

For a moment, time seemed to still. The world outside the clearing fell away, leaving only the two of us—me, a simple traveler, and this impossibly magical creature. The Marumi approached, its feet making no sound on the forest floor. As it came closer, I knelt, holding out my hand. The fairy Marumi stepped lightly onto my palm, its weight barely perceptible, like holding a dream.

In that instant, I felt a rush of warmth and light flood through me, as though the little one was sharing a piece of its magic. Visions of far-off lands, enchanted forests, and forgotten realms flashed in my mind’s eye. The air around me shimmered, and for a brief moment, I felt as though I could fly. (404/500)

Moss sank beneath their claws, the green staining their stubby legs as they trampled across the forest ground. Tiny fireflies danced around their head like a halo in the shadows of the forest, wings buzzing ever-so-softly like music on the wind. Raindrops trickled down from the treetop canopy, small drips of water plinking onto the great leaves of the foliage below.

Ferr chirred as they bounded across the forest grounds, lanky body hopping on short legs. Every so often, they'd pop their head up to look around, as the grass was long and hard to see over, and while they could fly, Ferr found this far more fun. Besides, flying in the rain was precarious at best, and it was better not to risk it.

Ferr found themself on the outskirts, staring out across a flat plane of wheat crops. The stark difference between the greens of the forest and the yellows of the field were night and day, yet so beautiful in their own right. On the far side of the field sat a pleasant little house, lights bright against the dulled skies. The westward facing window was open, as usual, and it only took a few flutters of the maru's wings to reach.

Before Ferr could reach for the pile of berries that also lay upon the windowsill, a gentle hand grabbed hold of them. "Hey, little friend! You're back!" With an annoyed chirp, Ferr wriggled in the grasp. "You're dirty! We need to get you clean first, okay? And then you can have at it, I promise."

The feeling of wind blew across Ferr's coat as they were pulled into the warmth of the house. Smells that differed from the ones found in the forest swirled around the pale maru, some smelling sharp while others smelled sweet. There was even one that made their nose itch with a slight twinge of prickling. The smells distracted the tiny maru enough for Ferr to startle at the touch of wet on their paws, the sound of running water finally catching their attention. Wriggling at the discomfort, Ferr tried to get away; being wet was always an uncomfortable feeling.

It didn't last long, however, as the feeling of something soft glided across their body. Upon closer inspection - and a testing nip at the offending object - Ferr came to the realization that this wasn't anything bad. It soaked away the water, and - as it was wrapped around them - was rather warm and cozy.

Set down beside something warm, their smattering of berries from the sill placed in front of them. As Ferr settled into the warmth around them, they came to realize something; they didn't want to leave.

They'd found home.

Within the dimly-lit woods, Alba was found protecting two young Barn owls who had fallen from their nest in an attempted fledging...if left on their own, they would be in grave danger.
She stood guard over them while waiting for their parents to return, which they soon did and Alba helped them and their owlets get back into the safety of their nest. <3
