The fog hung in the air, as I made my way to the goats that had escaped their pen. After staying together for a good while, they had spread out and I could barely make them out. The ones hiding (obstacles) behind the foliage didn’t make it easy to get them back together, and when I finally got them moving towards home, the troublemakers of the herd managed to end up on the other side of the river. I sniffed around and managed to find the part where they found a shallower part to cross, made my way to the other side and brought them back to the rest of the herd.
When we came up to a fork, I pushed the herd straight ahead, as I was fairly certain (easy choice) that I had taken that path to get home before. As it got darker, I moved the goats through the open fields, as to not risk loosing them in the forest with the fog dulling my senses.
A mysterious stranger offered shelter for the night and I immediately accepted. Looking back, that was probably quite risky, but the goats where getting tired and so was I.
As sun rose the next morning, the fog had disappeared, my fur was no longer damp and there wasn’t a cloud in sight.
When I finally got the herd home I was glad to no longer be alone with the goats. Whilst I always found it a bit frustrating and annoying to constantly get told what to do, making decisions by myself was exhausting.

    Adventure Time!

The early morning air was crisp and biting, carrying the scent of pine and the promise of a day buried beneath thick layers of white. Cirque's paws crunched through the fresh snow as he padded along the mountain trail, the world around him cloaked in a soft, snowy blanket. The peaks were barely visible through the swirling flurries that danced in the cold wind. Cirque shook his thick, furred coat, the flakes clinging to him like tiny stars, and his keen eyes scanned the wintry landscape. The mountains were both his playground and his challenge, and today, the snowy weather was a call to adventure.

Cirque's ears perked up, twitching as a low, mournful bellow echoed through the frosty air. It was a sound he knew well—cattle, likely from the farm nestled in the valley below, had wandered too far from their pen. But this was different; there was an edge of fear in the call, a note of distress that sent a shiver down Cirque's spine that wasn't from the cold. He paused, his senses sharpening, the world around him growing quieter as he listened intently. The sound came again, more desperate this time, and Cirque knew that some of the cattle had ventured into the snowy wilderness and were now lost or in danger. Without hesitation, he turned toward the source, his instincts guiding him through the snow-covered terrain, determined to bring them back to safety.

The cold stung Cirque's lungs as he raced along the mountain's edge. The bellowing grew louder, more frantic, until he finally crested a small rise and saw them—a small group of cattle huddled together on a narrow ledge, their eyes wide with fear as the wind whipped around them. They were packed close, their breath misting in the chilly air, hooves shifting nervously on the icy ground. Cirque paused for a moment, assessing the scene. Thankfully, the path to them was clear, no rocks or drifts in his way, just a straight shot across the snow-covered slope. With a determined bark, he sprang into action, his paws digging into the snow as he closed the distance between them.

Cirque expertly maneuvered the cattle down the winding mountain path, his movements deliberate and calming as he kept them close together. As they approached a frozen river, the icy surface proved treacherous. A few of the cattle, their hooves slipping uncontrollably, skidded helplessly across the slick ice and came to a halt on the far bank. Cirque’s heart pounded with urgency as he assessed the situation. He immediately dropped to his belly, his nose working furiously to pick up the faint scent of the cattle’s passage. Following the delicate trail, he discovered a section of the ice that appeared solid and safe. Navigating cautiously, he crossed the river with determined strides, his paws steady on the slippery surface. Upon reaching the stranded cattle, he greeted them with a reassuring bark and a gentle nudge, guiding them back across the ice to the safety of solid ground and the awaiting herd.

As Cirque led the cattle down the mountain, the path ahead suddenly forked into three distinct directions. He came to a cautious stop, his ears twitching and swiveling as he carefully assessed each option. The left trail, flanked by dense, overhanging trees, was narrow and meandering, its twists and turns hidden by the thick undergrowth and creeping shadows. To the right, the path plunged steeply into a dark, shadowed ravine, its depths obscured by the encroaching twilight and the whisper of unseen dangers. The route straight ahead remained open but was increasingly blanketed by thickening snow, which obscured the view and hid any potential hazards. After a moment of careful consideration, he decided to go straight ahead, trusting that the open path would lead them safely home.

As the daylight began to fade, the shadows stretched long and dark across the snowy landscape. Cirque noticed the trees ahead, their branches twisting together to form a shadowed tunnel, while the open plains to the side remained bathed in the last remnants of dusk. The trees offered cover, but their shadows could hide unknown dangers. After a moment of contemplation, he chose to stick to the open fields, where the last rays of sunlight illuminated the path and provided a clear view of both the cattle and their surroundings. By keeping to the open terrain, he ensured a safer route, guiding his charges steadily through the encroaching darkness.

As the temperature plummeted and nightfall enveloped the landscape, a mysterious figure emerged from the darkness, extending an offer of shelter for the night to Cirque and the cattle. The prospect of warmth and safety was enticing, especially with the biting cold settling in. However, Cirque’s instincts urged him to remain cautious. Rather than accepting the offer, he chose to guide the cattle away from the stranger, continuing their journey through the night. He sought out a familiar, secure spot where they could find refuge and rest until morning, ensuring their safety and comfort in the process.

Cirque woke up feeling thoroughly refreshed, the cattle still curled up and dozing peacefully around him. As he stretched his limbs and shook off the remaining snow from his thick coat, he turned his gaze to the horizon. The sky, though largely overcast, was thick with heavy, dark clouds that hung low and ominous, hinting at an impending rainstorm. The few remaining patches of clearer sky did little to dispel the growing gloom. The sun’s attempt to break through was a muted glow, barely piercing the dense blanket of clouds. The air was heavy with the promise of rain, and the tranquil morning had an unsettling, crisp edge, hinting at a day that might not stay so calm.

Cirque finally made his way back home, and while the familiar sights and scents offered a comforting sense of return, he was unmistakably changed by his journey. His coat had thickened and grown denser, a testament to the harsh weather conditions and the many trials he had faced along the way. The once-floppy ears, while still retaining their characteristic droop, were now more attuned and responsive to any faint sounds of distress, showcasing his sharpened awareness. Though his journey had left no visible scars, it had profoundly strengthened him, bolstering his resilience and enriching his sense of vigilance and inner fortitude.

thank you all for participating, it was so much fun reading everyone’s stories! ultimately, rng rolled a 1, so Kadayah will be taking this collie home. here’s what each of the choices you made were:

sunny (smooth), breezy (rough), rainy (curly), foggy (furnished), or snowy (wire)?

cattle (agouti), sheep (kaloula), goats (alpine), or ducks (barbu)?

are they traveling together (no merle), or are they spread out (merle)? are there any obstacles between you and your herd (pigment deletion/harlequin), or is it all clear (no deletion/harlequin)?

swim (blue), look for a bridge (liver), find stepping stones (lilac), or try and sniff out how the herd crossed (black)?

left (ce), right (cch), or straight ahead (C)? do you put a lot of thought into this decision (heterozygous, artist choice other c allele), or is it a quick and easy choice (homozygous)?

do you choose to go through the forest, where the trees are casting shadows (random brindle), or stick to the open fields (no brindle)?

a mysterious stranger offers shelter! do you immediately accept (full random masking), ask for more information (non-breed specific masking only), or find somewhere else to sleep instead (no masking)?

are there any clouds (white markings) blocking your view? if it is cloudy, how much of the sky is covered (level of white), and does it look like it might rain (ticking)?

with the choices our winner made, this collie will be a smooth coated Extensively Masked Black and Offwhite Agouti Merle Ticked Extreme White Rainfall + edits!
