Kalon Name: Eros
Prompt:

Eros could feel the blood pumping in his veins. That alien thing in place of a heart, inciting panic in every fibre of his being. But that was how he knew he was on the right path. I have to keep going. Even if it kills me. Though the forest was vast and deep as the ocean, the beating of the drum would steer him true. He only needed to get there before it was too late.

The heart that was not his pounded in his chest, straining against its calcified restraints. Just a little further. I just need to find her and get it back. The knowledge of what she would likely ask of him made his stomach clench. There were far worse things one could give away. But this time, he was ready. He'd studied up on faerie lore. He knew all their ins and outs; all their tricks and weaknesses. And if he couldn't make her see reason... well, that's what the powdered cold iron stashed in his fur was for.

There, up ahead.

A circle.

The stranger inside him squirmed, trying with all its might to force itself from its cage of bone. But Eros held true. He gritted his jaw, hovering a trembling paw over the fungal barrier. The heart lurched, threatening to spill itself from his throat and paint the pretty green grass below. No. He swallowed his fear. His resolve was steel. Another paw planted itself in the circle. His vision clouded. He blinked. The third paw had crossed the border. Just. One. More. Step.

His blood was on fire. His head swam. Every movement felt as if a thousand tonnes of pressure were bearing down upon him. But he had to endure. Mustering every shred of strength he had left, he dragged his final paw through the mushrooms. Though the pain was nigh unbearable, his determination was unshakable. He rooted his paw into the soft earth, breathing a small sigh of relief.

As his eyes fluttered and his body gave out beneath its own weight, he couldn't help but smile. The world blurred and shifted around him, showing him colours he'd never seen before. I did it. I did the impossible. He'd found a portal to the Otherworld, and it had welcomed him. Just another step closer to reclaiming his stolen heart. The journey would be perilous; the cost unspeakable. But he had come this far. He wasn't about to let his past mistakes stop him again. I will get my heart back. So I can give myself the love I deserve.

Kalon Name: Placidus
Prompt:
I could never remember, but it was always on the tip of my tongue. A word, a sentence, a whisper of a foreign code that I had never spoken. I tried, I truly did, tried to say a word even if only a whisper. A hello, a thank you, a goodbye, I was always looking for the right word to say and the way to say it, I was always looking. So I went searching, despite their worries and woes, I went searching for the missing, the lost… I went searching for my voice.

It was a perilous journey only thawte with more trouble due to my lack of words and speech. I met many people, some kind, some not but through all of it I was looking, looking for the voice I had lost. People would take advantage of my lack of words only with my physical strength could I continue on my journey. Some people were kind due to my lost voice, their care allowed my mind to take on another day. I tried desperately to find my voice and the missing words test came with it. A witch, a wizard, a charlatan on the side of the road, a demon, a doctor, an angel in white clothes, they could not find it, neither could I. Was this voice always lost, yes, but I still hoped to find it. The villagers, the people I cared for knew of my hope so they would send gifts of gold to allow me to continue on my journey.

Weeks turned into years, years turned into decades, my search was still fruitless, what I was looking for could not be found. I resigned myself to fate and began my journey back to the village to my home. What awaited me was bright smiles, warm hugs, laughter and peace. In that moment in the comfort of a warm embrace I realized I had a voice. My actions spoke words as did the actions of those around me. Love, friendship, care, all of it was already here. I looked at them and with a bright smile with no words I gave a thank you, a thank you to them all for their dearest words, their kind actions and understanding love. What I was looking for was always here, a voice hidden that I had blindly ignored. I was looking for a figment, an ideal of a voice but I no longer needed to search, my voice was right here.

      Kalon Name: Collet
      Prompt:
The slowly setting sun filled the sky with vibrantly glowing streaks of color. Cicadas chirped on a warm spring evening, and a sleepy Kalon named Collet wandered. The first star appeared, shimmering playfully above. Her only wish was to find the perfect place to rest her head. Little did she know, the places she explored would be as peculiar as the sparkling shine on her tail. A matching twinkle gleamed in her amber eyes after a languid yawn.

Spirits high, she found herself in a lush green field surrounded by towering trees. A giant circus tent stood in the middle, its alternating stripes radiating from the warm, energetic glow coming from inside. A breeze carried the sound of lively music and the scent of food, filling the air with a tantalizing beckon. She drifted through an entrance adorned with balloons and streamers. Inside, she found festivities bustling with activity, all surrounded by an audience. Colorful, dazzling lights decorated the ceiling, illuminating the phenomenal ringed performance. A great ring in the center displayed the marvelous trapeze act. Amidst the excitement, she thought she might curl up on the high wire. Not a moment after climbing the ladder, an acrobat took hold of her paws! Ensuing a dizzying yet sensational performance, Collet fled from a group of fans and escaped with a hint of disappointment.

The sensations from the fairgrounds died away, and she could see stars filling the dark sky. A musky, earthy scent wafted through the trees as they gradually thinned into an imposing cluster of colorful fungi. Collet treaded through a carpet of plentiful sprouts consuming the ground in between varying oversized mushrooms. She sprang on top of a plump cap, imagining it giving in like an excellent beanbag. To her surprise, it bounced! Catching a glimpse of something during her ricochet, she toppled onto the soft fungi below. Past the stems, a massive giant's moccasin leaned on a colossal beanstalk. It stretched endlessly upwards, past the mushrooms and disappeared into the sky. The shoe looked roomy and had a comforting, worn-in feel, but the lingering stench was far too intense for Collet.

Just when she thought she might have to settle for a night in the shoe, an extraordinary gleaming in the distance caught her eyes from where she perched on top of the pungent shoe. She froze, the lace she bad been playing with falling from her paws. A magnificent, enormous crystal chalice reflected the night sky in the heart of a shining moonlit meadow. It was empty, lying on its side, nestled in the grass. With a heart full of hope, Collet approached the glass. Her fluffy tail swished in glee, and climbing into its shelter, she curled up on the crisp surface with a contented purr. It was exactly right. Refreshingly comfortable and luxurious. As she closed her eyes and fell into pleasant slumber, she couldn't help but dream of what else awaited in the woods. (491/500)

    Kalon Name: Silhouette
    Prompt:

Parties of glitter and gold reflected off every surface in her mind, the sounds of superficial laughter and taunts filling the spaces she didn't dare touch. It was dizzying, the way everything swirled together like the drink in her glass, fizzling to the surface with threatening demands she refused to answer. The masks they wore were reminders of the questions she held, her steps measured and precise as she wandered through the room.

The smell of champagne and perfume were strong, monochrome painting everything in sight beyond the false color. She couldn't help but look down at her own hands, the slate grey that painted the surface feeling alien and frustrating. How could everyone be okay with this setting? It was lifeless, so utterly strange that it stole the breath from her own lungs. Yet, everyone seemed content to just wallow away in their false security.

Silhouette's eyes flickered over the party guests, how they mingled amongst themselves without a care in the world. This is what they were supposed to do; they were all just pretty things playing pretend. The world outside these walls wasn't real, it never was. They were all actors in a world devoid of color beyond the splendor of gold.

Every breath felt heavier than the last as that all-too familiar anger began to bubble up in her core, her hand tightening around the glass. No, this needed to end.

Without even thinking of where she wanted to go, Silhouette found herself moving without accord, the party left behind as she slipped through the doors of the corridor. It was far quieter here, but the evidence of riches hung over her like demons. Panic began to well in her chest as her steps quickened across the floor with bitter haste.

Was there a fault in her? Everyone seemed so happy, so content with the life they were pushed to live. What was she even searching for beyond the champagne in her glass? The world was painted with roses and macarons, what more could she want?

    So much more...

Soon, she found herself at the end of the hall, standing before a grand mirror that stood at least two feet higher than her. It was beautiful, but what even was it? As she peered into the surface, her eyes widened as her hand instinctively reached out to touch it. Before her stood a girl she didn't recognize; one of a gentle color she didn't understand. Where was the grey?

A thought filled her head, her eyes flickering to the glass she held in her hand.

The mirror shattered into a thousand pieces, glittering like the stars she sought for as champagne painted the floor, the drink she never wanted being the key.

Before her stood a doorway filled with color and beauty beyond the world she suffered. As she stepped past the broken glass and into the mirror's frame, she could hear the laughter of the party behind her. She pitied them.

    But she was free.

sometimes i feel as though my world were part of a lucid dream.

i take in the darkening sky, the neon billboard lights, the skyline.
allow myself a deep breath, because i'd left the smell of smoke on the concrete a hundred floors below my feet

i stand on an extravagant cake built of metal and glass, filled with faces and lies.

i take a sip of my drink and put on my mask.
the sound of traffic fades into the buzzing of my mind.
i close my eyes and dive into the night.

    floor one.
i am the main character tonight.
the rules of this game are simple- my guests are my joy, and i am their pride
the venus of the billboards and darling of the city: everyone knows who i am under my disguise, though that's not what it's for.
i bite the inside of my cheek instinctively.
    cakes don't taste like metal.

    floor two.
    i am the host.
the affluent, the string-pullers, the faces most only see on TV- they all want a slice of my masterpiece,
and i'll cut each person the one that best suits them.
i am a businessman, and an entertainer
i am a confidant, maybe even a partner
i can be anyone and everyone you like

i talk, but these words aren't mine
i smile, but they don't reach my heart
so that i can become anyone- just never myself.
these slices of cake are filled with empty feelings

    floor zero.
my guests will depart every so often,
    i don't blame them, honestly
a beautiful dessert made of paper mache is still just glue and fiber
they leave this beautiful pavilion with the truth they came to find, and don't look back.

everyone leaves this place eventually- everyone but me.

because by the end of the night, i don't know who i am at all
i am nobody, and this gilded cake is my prison.

the lights are beautiful tonight, as usual.

    Kalon Name: Pixie
    Prompt:

    *swipe... swipe... swipe*
Another dating app.... and all these apps were ever full of were pics of dudes with some dead animal as their latest hunting trophy, and if not some poor animal it's a fish.
"Why is dating so hard!?" Pixie exclaimed, tossing her phone on the cushion beside her.
With not much luck in the real world, Pixie succumbed to the dreaded dating apps that her coworkers had recommended her, but after eight different apps, she was ready to give up on it entirely.
In fact, the first thing she did was delete the stupid thing from her phone before slouching in defeat on the couch.

It wasn't like she needed a partner to be whole or happy, but having someone in your life that you could love in a way that you can't with anyone else, it was something that Pixie had been wanting for what felt like forever at this point.
She wondered why she just couldn't find the right person, but "Oh well..." She thought.

    *ping*
Pixie's ears perked to the sound of her phone's notification. Lunging at it she opened it and discovered it was from her old high school group chat, and to her excitement it was an invitation to a reunion, but was encouraged to bring dates if you had them.
Of course she was going to go... but she was pretty sure everyone from high school had partners by now and she'd be one of the few who didn't...
Instead of dwelling on the thought, she leapt to her feet to start planning what she'd wear to the occasion. Date or no date, she was gonna go and have a good time with all her old friends and classmates.

    -----

Since she had come all this way to her old hometown for the reunion, Pixie thought she would stay a few extra days before the fun evening she came for to see the old sights and say hi to the locals she knew so well before she left the quaint coastal town.

While she strolled through the market she tripped and tumbled into a crate of oranges.
"Oh shoot! I am so sorry about that, this thing always gets in the way." Said the stranger, helping her up. The person was none other than one of her old classmates, Colt, who's tail she tripped over.

"No worries Colt." She giggled, straightening her clothes.
"Wait, you know my name?" He asked her, a bit in shock.
"Of course, we were classmates all the way up to and through high school after all." She stated with a smile.

They ended up strolling around town together, catching up and connecting in a way Pixie hadn't with anyone else.
Who knew coming back to her hometown she would end up meeting someone who she would end up a best friend with, and who knows, maybe something more. Fate's kinda funny that way, bringing two people who had secret crushes on each other in high school together.
