Prompt: Round Goby! They are small, bottom dwelling fish that aggressively feed on small aquatic organisms and can spawn several times each year. They decrease the levels of native fish by eating eggs and competing for food along with the inference that they pass a strain of botulism to the birds and fish that eat them that they get from eating zebra mussels.

Prompt: Sea Lampreys
Thanks to this excellent prompt of yours, I learned that the Sea Lamprey is both (1) a fish and (2) an invasive species. I had no idea that they were even fish, haha, oops! Thank you for making me learn something :D
Anyways, because of their parasitic, destructive nature, lampreys' invasion has wreaked havoc on fisheries/the fishing industry. It's practically impossible to get rid of them, though there are significant efforts to control them now. I don't want to say anything to 'graphic' here because they are spooky little guys, so here's a link for you to see them and learn more!

Prompt:
Northern Snakehead - Originating from China, Russia, and Korea, snakeheads are a tough, hardy fish at the top of the food chain that lack natural predators in introduced locations. The snakehead can breathe air and can live out of water for up to four days, provided it stays wet. Because they will eat anything from fish, frogs, and crustaceans to small insects, they can cause significant disruptions in any ecosystem they enter and native species often lose out to this predator.

Prompt: Pumpkinseed fish are an invasive species originally from North America, but now also found throughout Western Europe.
They're small and have a bright golden belly. They inhabit both still and running water. If you catch one as a fisher, you're meant to kill them to stop them being able to spread further. Other fish have a hard time eating the pumpkinseed fish, as they have spikes on their back that make them hard to eat, and use a LLO (little hairs between the scales that can pick up movement in the water) which makes them hard to be caught in the first place.
Pumpkinseed fish are also carnivorous, eating insects, crustaceans, fry (including of their own species), and amphibians. Here is a scientific article talking about how pumpkinseed fish are a threat to native insect species. Pumpkinseed fish can cope with low oxygen levels in water, which means they can cope better living in water effected by humans than native fish species can.
In the EU, you are not allowed to breed, import, sell, profit off, or intentionally release pumpkinseed fish, to help discourage human activity from spreading them further.

Prompt: The Eurasian Carp is a destructive and majorly invasive species. Continuing the bad news, it's threatened in its native range. There are both wild and domesticated forms. This omnivorous group get large and live a long time so they can stay and dominate a local environment for an extended period, especially as they breed around 300,00 eggs in one spawn per female. They can consume, outcompete, and destroy sedimentation, vegetation, and other water inhabitants. Eradication efforts have included exposing them to a koi herpes virus, genetically modifying so they only produce male offspring, and seine nets. One wild fact I learned is that a low percentage of eggs can actually survive birds' digestive tracts so, because of the high number of eggs consumed by birds, this could result in the further spread to new waters. Little extra trivia- This carp is able to breed with another invasive species, the Goldfish! Creating hybrids called Kollar Carps.

Prompt: Mosquitofish, native to the Mississippi River basin, have been introduced worldwide in an effort to control mosquito populations. These small fish, which do eat mosquito larvae, were first introduced in the early 1900s in areas looking for easy mosquito control. Unfortunately, where their food was readily available, their populations grew out of control and outcompeted native species. In some areas, those native species were actually better at controlling mosquito populations than the mosquitofish, and the presence of the invasive fish has led to an increase in mosquito populations. My favorite part about this terrible tale? In 2019, researchers developed a robotic largemouth bass to frighten mosquitofish hoping that it would decrease their fertility. Results of the study were promising!

The robotic fish sounds hilarious haha Congrats!
