Tiaki is an anima tutela, a soul guardian. These beings are charged with the responsibility of finding, caring for, and protecting souls. Tiaki specializes in lost forest souls. Those who got lost in the forest and never made it out or those whose lives were ended in other ways still within the wooded confines. Tiaki, like most anima tutela, was once living. In life, he was very compassionate. He stood up for those who needed it and took care of those who were sick or needed an extra hand. Due to his kindheartedness when still alive and his own unfair ending in the dark woods, he was transformed to care for others. Now he wanders the woods, seeking out recently parted souls. He finds them, calms them, reassures them, and keeps them safe from harmful spirits until they’re ready to pass on.

Those he protects and aids are extremely grateful. They get to pass with feelings of safety, comfort, and companionship rather than piercing fear, pain, and loneliness. He is gifted a petal from every soul safeguarded, keeping a tiny piece of them with him forever. Tiaki has been saving souls for a long time now. He never tires of it though. Those with a touch of ‘other’ may see him gliding through the undergrowth on his way to the next individual in need, his petals giving off a reassuring glow. It is said, if you’re ever lost in the woods and you have a good heart, follow the blue flowers until the trees part.
