▪︎Brave as a lion,▪︎
Artemis is reveled in his town as a hero. A brave Chicoon, born with bravery like a lion and the swiftness of an eagle. This is the recollection of how he'd got that title...
This tale was first set in motion a very long time ago. There lived a Chicoon with a troubled heart, and by using it's extensive knowledge in magic, created a book just as troubled as the Chicoon. This book contained the catastrophic details of the future if one follows the steps to ensure the world's destiny inside.
The book was sealed away in a tomb, so that no one's eyes could see what pain and suffering could be recollected within the prophecy of the book. But, one day, the book was missing. A great tragedy fell on the town, for if the book would have fallen into the wrong hands, the world is in grave danger.
Unfortunately for them, it seems that the power who now held in their possession the book had terrible intention. They intended to destroy the world because the world had destroyed them, a simple case of revenge. The town, and it's surrounding cities were in an uproar. The Evil one, (who seemed to be unnamed for no one knew who they were) began the plan of mass destruction. If they couldn't be happy, so the rest of the world couldn't be, too.
This is where our hero's story begins. Disturbed by the talk of the town, Artemis quickly found his way over to the chief elder's home. "What is all this gossip of the Evil Book gone?" He inquired. "Listen here," the elder's voice was rasp and shaky "it's unfortunately quite true, and it seems evil has claim on the book now. No one dares to rise up to save us all.." Artemis suddenly felt a rush of determination. "I'll do it." The elder was shocked. "B-but, son, you know the Evil One is quite powerful.. you may never make it back." Artemis replied with haste. "I don't care. It's better than waiting here to be destroyed when I could possibly save us somehow." The elder reluctantly sighed. "Find your way out west to Rune Town. It's where the destruction has started and I reckon you'll find the Evil One there as well." Artemis nodded a respectful goodbye, and out west he went.
Artemis returned to his house and collected belongings he'd need. Rune Town was a good deal off, and the journey was across a vast expanse of desert sand. Having packed all he could carry for food and water, he packed his sword. It was a sleek, smaller sword, but it got the job done. Off he departed, to save not only his town, but the world.
It was a very hard journey, and yet he wasn't even there already. He'd been traveling for days, and though he maintained a good pace, he was starting to grow very tired. "Why did I just jump to do this," He doubted. "I can't possibly do this alone.." He felt a sudden sharp pain in his stomach. He winced. "I-" He felt the pain again. He assumed it was a sign to stop doubting himself, so he pressed onward.
A few days after the events of his doubts, he reached Rune Town. It was in smoulders and not a single Chicoon in sight. Rune Town was always bustling, whether it's just the common folk on their daily commutes or tourists coming to see the Great Runes, you'd never see it empty. Artemis' thoughts were interrupted by a loud boom. An explosion in the distance, but close enough to be threatening. "Who are you?" A loud voice chimed into the already chaotic sound. "I-I am Artemis.. Artemis the Warrior.", He collected his courage and stood tall. The voice mocked him and laughed. "What warrior comes without an army?" Artemis ignored them, for he knew they were only trying to disturb his thought. "Show yourself, you coward!" And out of the smoulder stepped a large, goopy, void color figure. It seemed.. like someone, but corrupted. Artemis drew his sword with a blazing determination, and charged almost immediately. Catching the Evil One off-guard, he took a slice out of it's arm. Artemis looked over at them and saw that some of the void-colored goop had splattered off. He saw a Chicoon under that goop.
"How dare you!" They roared. The Evil One used the sticky goop to manifest two tentacles, and rushed at Artemis to grab him. Swiftly slicing the first tentacle off, he went for the next but was too late.
The Evil One laughed. "Already giving up? How pathetic." It began to squeeze Artemis. He squirmed, which the Evil One thought to get away, but Artemis had a different plan. If he got his arm unstuck, he could grab his sword and free himself. They grunted. "Stop squirming, you-" They were interrupted by the blade of Artemis' sword and Artemis rushed them, tossing them into the small well filled with water. It seemed that by taking enough goop off with the tentacles, there wasn't enough to sustain itself and he could clean the rest off..
"W-what... what happened?" A white Chicoon sat up in the well. Artemis helped them up. "You were.. corrupted." The white Chicoon gasped in horror as it looked around what once was Rune Town. It sobbed. "What have I done? I-I was just on a journey when some evil, gooey thing lurked in the dark and overtook m-me.." Its voice was shaky. Artemis looked sympathetically, but also with a touch of fear. What was this goopy, evil thing? Was it the agent of destruction merely using other Chicoons as a vessel? He shook away these thoughts for a moment and helped up the Chicoon. "You should come with me." Artemis gave a smile as he slid his sword back into its sheath.
Artemis' return was greatly celebrated. No more destruction had ensued after his rescue of the white Chicoon, at least for that moment. Artemis knew that the evil, goopy spirit still lurked in the dark, waiting to strike again. He still enjoyed the festivities hosted for his honor. "Artemis the Warrior has saved us!" They shouted. He gave a sheepish smile and partook in the festivities, but he knew in his warrior heart things were not over with his battle against evil quite yet...
