pokemon pronouns: They/them and she/her
prompt: How they got their ankle bracelet.
Sara and their trainer had been walking through town when they overheard two people talking quietly in an alleyway. Normally, they would have ignored this, but it sounded like the two were planning something, and it didn't sound like the results would be good. Perhaps they were part of a group similar to Team Rocket. What really concerned Sara was that the two mentioned Jirachi. The wish Pokemon was known to be able to grant any wishes a person desired, and if the two managed to find them and force them to grant a wish, it could have serious repercussions.
Sara's trainer seemed to have realized the same thing, and since no one else appeared to be paying any attention to the pair planning in the alley, it would be up to them to stop them. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately since they would not need to find a way to locate the pair later, the two were heading out in search of Jirachi right then. As the two left the alley, Sara and her trainer were careful to act like they were focused on something else nearby, so they would not draw their attention. It was only after the two had moved far enough away that they wouldn't be looking back at the people of the town that the duo began to follow them.
They were cautious and moved as quietly as possible, not wanting to give away the fact they were following the other two. They stayed close to trees and other sources of shelter they could hide behind if the pair happened to turn around for some reason, since the farther away from the town they got, the more difficult it would be to explain their presence without seeming suspicious. It would be much easier to avoid any difficult questions if they could stay out of sight.
Truthfully, neither Sara nor their trainer really had any plan for how to stop the two. They just knew someone had to do something, and even if they thought they could convince others to help, by the time they did, the two could have found Jirachi. Though the two sounded like they had lots of experience and would be difficult to defeat in a battle, if it came down to that they would have to try. Besides, Sara trusted her trainer and knew that trust went both ways. Teamwork was the most important thing in a battle, really; no matter how powerful a Pokemon was, their true strength came from their bond with their trainer.
The farther from town the small group got, the more anxious Sara felt. Could they handle a battle against two other trainers at once? So far, they had really only battled one person at a time, but they doubted the pair they were following would take turns if it came down to a battle. They would probably want any advantage they could get. Even so, Sara didn't consider turning back for even a moment. Finally, the pair they were following stopped.
"We must be getting close." One of the people said. "Look around, see if you can find them. I'll look over there-" the person stopped speaking when they turned and saw a trainer staring determinedly at them. "I see we have company. Well, this shouldn't take long," they smirked and held up a pokeball, releasing the Pokemon inside it. Their companion did the same.
It was a long and difficult battle, their opponents clearly being skilled trainers, but Sara was determined not to let them succeed in their plans. By the end, both Sara and her trainer were exhausted, but they were victorious. The other two fled the scene, grumbling about their plans being foiled. Sitting down to rest after the challenge they had just gone through, the two were surprised when Jirachi suddenly appeared before them.
Jirachi had awoken in time to see the end of the battle, and was impressed by the effort they had gone to in order to potentially save the world, or at least the town most likely. They asked what their wish was, and Sara and their trainer just looked at each other in confusion. Neither had been thinking about a wish, their goal had just been to stop the two that they had followed here.
Jirachi simply smiled, and a golden ankle bracelet with a red gemstone appeared on Sara's leg. A gift, they supposed. Or perhaps a reminder of that day, and to always do what they feel is right, even if the odds seemed stacked against them. With that, Jirachi disappeared again.
(Awww, such a cute Eevee! Thank you for the opportunity!)
