Owner: Starred43
Show Name: Nothing Less Than Gaudy
Barn Name: Egua
Height: 16hh
Halter: Artists choice!
Prompt: As far back as anybody is told growing up... If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all! As striking as Egua is, there are times when the solid-coated stallions at the neighboring stables pick on him for being so different. In times that the stallions are together, they seem to exclude him and snicker as they all socialize away from poor Egua. Having chimera markings is for some reason not "cool" to the other horses, let alone having a horse-like marking hidden within his patterns! It was up until a big show that Egua caught all the eyes of the audience and won best in show not only for his unique looks, but for the way he presented himself so gracefully as well! As Egua became more known and met more friends, suddenly the solid-coated stallions found themselves being the excluded ones! But since Egua did not believe in unnecessary meanness he let the stallions join in on the fun with the whole group! The solid-coated stallions realized there is no reason to be mean to somebody just because they don't look the same as them. Egua looks at his markings proudly and holds his head up high! Just because he was different did not mean he deserved to be all alone. Now he lives happily with many true friends and always keeps his eyes open for lonely horses to befriend!

Possible art piece coming!

    Owner: cujo.
    Show Name: solas's decadent decay
    Barn Name: wicked
    Height: 16hh
    Halter: artist's choice! <3
    Prompt:

      several years ago

the foal pushed itself up, still wet and looking more than a little confused and shocked at it's sudden entrance into the world. its mother nuzzled it's muzzle with hers, and from beyond the stall the teenager who owned her trembled a little with excitement - their first foal, from their first mare! their older brother huffed slightly as he edged his way around the mare and baby and shooed them back from the door to slip out, looking a little weary after helping the mare throughout. but the teen couldn't tear their eyes away from the pair, even as their brother wrapped his hand around their shoulder and gave them a congratulatory hug.

before long, the siblings watched the foal get to shaky feet. "funny little colt you got there, bails," their brother murmured, and the teen could see what he meant - the foal's markings were certainly unique. "hey look at that," the teen - baily - gestured a little as they watch-ed the colt take his first drink, little tail wagging, "it looks like ... a horse? or a unicorn, there, on his side!" "huh, it does, too."

bailey leaned heavily on the stall door, studying for any other oddities in his coat - below the unicorn it almost looked like mountains, and strange clouds above it. they almost missed their brother's question, so caught up in inspecting what they could see of their sweet little colt. "you gonna finally tell us any of the names you had planned now?" rather reluctantly, bailey tore their gaze away from the mare and foal to grin at their brother cheekily, "no. only one!" nodding, they looked back, "i want him to match his mam a little. so it's gonna be whiskey - and wicked."

      present day

wicked was one of the sweetest and well mannered stallions bailey had ever met - something they were immensely proud of. he was almost asleep, enjoying the warm spring breeze as he was groomed outside the stables. rubbing his neck with great affection, bailey continued to run their body brush over him, chattering away until the sound of familiar car pulling into the stable yard drew their attention instead. grinning, they watched as their niece jumped from it as soon as it was parked, eyes wide as she looked around. their older sister had just moved back, and her family with her, and it was the first time her kids would get to see the horses.

"bailey!" their niece, seven years of age, scooted closer, wide eyed as she looked up at wicked. "wow! that's wicked! he's so cool!" she'd seen him plenty of times in photos and videos, but it was nothing compared to seeing him in real life. bailey laughed, nodding as wicked turned his head at the sound of his name. "yup! he definitely is!" bailey was just about to ask if she wanted to help groom him when their niece gasped again, "he has a UNICORN on his side!" another reaction bailey was used to getting! "bailey! why does he have a unicorn on his side?!" scratching at his neck, bailey turned to their niece with a wide smile - "well, you see ..."

a legend, as told by bailey to their niece

"you see, unicorns are just as real as you and me. give yourself a little pinch if you want - yup, see? real! if a unicorn wanted to do that, they'd have to nip themselves, since they've got hooves. a long, long time ago, unicorns were a lot more common. some of them lived among the herds of wild horses, but mostly they lived in herds with other unicorns. they're very shy - and they often hide their horns. when there's a full moon out, they stand under it's glow and think really hard about making their horns disappear - and it happens! just like that! they have to do the same when they want it to come back.

humans weren't very nice to unicorns, i'm afraid. sometimes they just wanted to tame them, but unicorns hate that. so more and more of them started to hide their horns, but i'm afraid it wasn't the only way you could identify a unicorn. even if they hid their horns, they usually had odd markings! shapes that horse markings don't come in, not perfectly! like crescent moons and trees and all sorts of things!

so the unicorns disappeared. no one knows where - somewhere humans can't find them! islands humans can't see, up in the clouds.

until ... one day, a young stallion became lost. how? oh how did they get up there? i like to think they travelled up high into the mountains, until their horns could almost touch the moon, and created a home for themselves up there - and because of that, i think he might have fell back to earth. like a shooting star! how was he to get back home? it had been a long, long time since a unicorn last made the journey, and he was so far!

he hid his horn and began his journey. or he tried - a lone horse wandering around is a bit odd, these days! and your grandparents were called to take in this mysterious horse, mmhmm! really! he lived right here! he wasn't very happy about it, and tried to escape many times. your grandparents thought he'd been hurt by someone, and tried to make him comfortable. so they introduced him to my little mare: whiskey! and he fell in loooove. he stopped trying to escape, utterly besotted with her. and one night, he even showed her his horn! yup, really, i saw it from my window - he had the most lovely horn, like stardust! just for a moment, there and gone in the moonlight.

and then ... he started to get sick. none of the vets that saw him could figure out what was wrong. see, unicorns had been away for such a long time, and lived so close to the moon that gives them their powers, that when they spend a lot of time on earth ... they start to get moonsick. their powers weaken, and if they stay too much longer, they might loose them altogether. so even though it pained them both, he and whiskey made a plan to get him up the mountains and back home. i wish i could tell you what they did! but they escaped one night and we couldn't find them anywhere! there were sightings, but they moved fast - and we couldn't catch up to them!

a few weeks later, whiskey was found up in the mountains all alone. we searched for our mysterious stallion, but there was no sign of him. we brought home whiskey, and a while later, we realised she was in foal! i was very excited - i hoped we were going to have a little unicorn running around! but ... not quite. he's a perfect mix of horse and unicorn! he has no horn, like his horse mam, but, those markings? they're - yup, you got it right! just like the ones unicorns would have! he got them from his unicorn dad!

though ... i have to admit, i've spent a lot of time watching him at night just in case he makes a horn appear!"
