"Why did you announce that you can smell things?"

Yes… kind of. Ever since a catastrophe in the mage’s barracks (which Cumulus denies any responsibility for), her nose has been consistently clogged with the sent of ash and singed fur. Exceptionally strong smells can get through, but generally smells of that strength are worse than ash. One time, Smokey attempted to clear out her nose with burnt pungent herbs. The only result of that attempt was that Cumulus now occasionally smells lavender or rosemary.

Drizzle has a nose, therefore he can, in theory, smell. Everything works fine up there. But there isn't much to smell at the bottom of the lake - in fact, smelling anything underwater would be considered a detriment to the cat doing the smelling. You wouldn't want to snarf up a big noseful of water now would you? Even if you weren't technically 'alive'. Hmm...what a predicament.
