some say he was present at the beginning of time. others, that he hears and sees all as a god would. that only the gods could bless such a unique and formidable figure. but the truth is far from ordinary, and far from speculation and rumor. as major prophet of the sophrosyne, athanasios holds great power and respect. he is the one who speaks to the gods and he is the one who maintains their good graces. the immortal one, they praise him. they believe him to be their savior.

they are wrong.

athanasios has seen time spiral before him, like a long string of yarn it flows. and yet he remains the same. he has not changed since the night he destroyed the ancient sapphire and desecrated the holy temple. The gods had found their punishment, and that punishment came in the form of immortality. he has long since given up on finding love, on forming relationships with those around him. he knows they will simply wither and die away while he remains the same. he has become numb to it all. he has no relationships because they are all fleeting, brief moments on a long timeline that seems to stretch endlessly. those around him praise him, they worship him, but none of them know how undeserving he is of this treatment. he is cursed to be the gods mouthpiece, a place he never asked for, a place he once scoffed at. as his punishment, he must serve the very things he despised from the moment he was born. athanasios wishes more than anything that the gods might finally see him as penitent, and might finally release him from this curse. he knows, however, that this hope is fruitless, but it is the only thing keeping him going now.

there is only one that he cares for, a young one apprenticed under him about as unwillingly as he was apprenticed to his father's position of major prophet. this young one is named castor, named for the greek legend. his brother is similarly dubbed pollux, but athanasios highly doubts either will embody the myth they are based on. castor looks at religion as athanasios once did, and it is both terrifying and heartwarming. he finds himself loving this young, fiery-headed little kit. pledged to be the next major prophet even though he knows he will never gain the position. perhaps in time, athanasios may see him grow into the feline athanasios never was.

prompt: Artemis' relationships seem to wax and wane with the source of her magic, the moon. As the moon waxes, appearing larger, other cats cannot help but notice Artemis. She has a glow about her, and others want to become closer to her and her aura. When the full moon is visible, it seems others cannot take their eyes off of Artemis. But as the moon wanes, so does her glow. Her aura diminishes, and with it, the interest of others. On the night of the new moon, it seems no one even notices or thinks of her. This can make forming deep connections difficult, but luckily, time and effort can overcome the effects of the moon's cycle.
