During sunset, one can nestle oneself above a slow running stream on a low hanging weeping willow branch. The fiery light of the evening would seep through the hanging leaves, and as the sun falls, if you’re lucky enough, a firefly or two will hover into view. The trickling of water and the fragrant perfumes of late spring blossoms would soothe her mind.

Lumi tilted her head. “Nope! I think we got everything.” She nudged her friend with a smile. "We have the whole thing scoped, Lyre.”

She breathed a sigh. It was going to be perfect. They’d mapped out the whole day from dawn to dusk, down to the last detail. Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

“... wait, what about the beach?”

Oh. And that would have to go━

“Excuse me, ladies....”

It couldn’t be.

“Iver?”

He gave a sheepish grin. “Think I could steal you for a sec?”

Lumi wandered through the meadow, the waves of grass tickling her paws. She let out a soft laugh, glancing at the tom by her side. “You didn’t tell me you were coming! When did you arrive?”

"Mhm, just business. Thought I'd stop by..." He grinned. "... didn't think I'd be questioned like a kit on my whereabouts, though."

Her fur warmed. "You tease." ​

The night flew by to the rhythm of gentle teasing and laughter. Time ceased to exist as conversation flowed… from two old friends catching up.

“... we had this whole thing planned for tomorrow. Lyre and I, we━” She paused. “What is it? What do you━”

His nose pointed ahead. And she saw it.

The flicker of gold lights rising from the sea of grass. Fireflies, dancing to an invisible rhythm under the silver streak of galaxies above. Cicadas chirped a melody amidst the evening breeze.

“Beautiful isn’t it?"

"It's... magical."

And it was. The whole thing... so spontaneous and out of the blue.
Not forced... not planned. The laughter and teasing... just flowed.
It was perfect.

His paw rested on hers. "Just like you."
