Lambicorn name:
Merari - Hebrew in origin, meaning 'bitter'.

Gender:
- (they/he pronouns)

Prompt:

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom by the sea. Listen- you can hear it, can't you? The water, ever moving, gently lapping at the docks and ship's hulls; the gulls squabbling, pausing only to join their calls and jeer all those so unlucky as to be stuck upon the ground; the soft chatter of a thousand voices in a hundred tongues as ships draw in and depart, merchants calling their wares, families reuniting or parting, adventures ended and begun in equal measure, all so often involving tears of some nature, that some legends say this land is where the ocean itself was first born. Smell the salted air, peppered throughout with traces of woodsmoke, of fresh caught fish, of spices from distant shores and fragrant flowers; you can even taste it now, can't you? See as he walks along, a lambicorn of noble bearing, his coat deep ocean blues rippled with a lighter shade, radiating a light to rival the noonday sun shining overhead. See those at his side- his beloved at one, sea dark and moon pale and whose voice could tame the storms; at the other his dearest friend and most trusted guardian, sworn by duty ancient as life itself to guard this lambicorn's heart- for what must a king must be, above all else, but gracious and noble of heart?

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom by the sea, and oh, see how it burns. See the ships shattered into matchsticks and driftwood bobbing upon the waves, the sparkling glass of broken homes glittering and ground under boot and paw and hoof as the survivors fall back to the castle, hear a thousand voices all weeping, crying, praying in a hundred tongues the same thing to their king, 'save us! Save your people!', for all his fervor, they have seen naught of him since his love was stolen away, and at last presumed dead. See the king, red-eyed and weary within a runecircle of salt and gems and gold, his light only a pale shade illuminating the empty spaces where his love once stood, where his dearest friend still is, dagger in paw and weeping, trembling, for they know- they know and can see the pain in the king's heart, one even they could not guard against, however they tried. Can see the desperation, the need to bring any end to this fight, to keep his people safe even if it means turning what little he has left over to something worse than any enemy. Can see how there is only one course now, when he is beyond words, only one way to prevent it-

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom, by the sea. There is a town there now, small and nothing of great note, except-
There is a castle, or what remains of one, once glorious white stone now faded and crumbling. But it is not empty. Townsfolk will tell you there is a ghost there sometimes, a creature pink as the rose bushes that have overtaken what was once the courtyard, still armored and armed. How this ghost was a knight once, sworn to guard the heart of a king only to see it snatched away during the depths of tragedy by a selfish god and locked away in some dismal vault, for they too were so heartsick, they could not perform their gravest duty. How this ghost is never still, but always reading and researching, for even if they are dead (if they are dead), they cannot rest until their failure is mended, and the king's heart returned at last.

(... you never said it had to be a successful guarding :'D And in the likely event the rambling story is a bit too unclear, tl;dr: the greatest threat Merari tried, and failed, to protect Pharos' heart from was an attack against the kingdom, which not only saw a great many of their people lost, but Pharos' dearest love. It drove Pharos to desperation, and making a pact with a deity that just made everything all the worse.)
