I'd like to adopt!
Username: Fo55il
Name: Boniface
Gender: Male (He/him , they/them)
Prompt:
“I’m not ready for this, father.” he softly said.
The Prince, soon to be king, looked down at his father. Who was now bedridden. It was tough times for the Kingdom. The King was falling behind on his duties and the Prince was quite inexperienced still.
“You are.” The old king responded, “The stars have told me. I have talked to your mother in my dreams and she, and those before us, told me you will be a great successor.”
The Prince stared hard at the wall across from him. It was decorated with portraits of his family. Him, his mother and father. He sometimes wished he could turn back time to what he was seeing in these portraits.
A life without worry and responsible.
“Boniface..” his father’s raspy voice pulled him back to reality, “... You will lead with great fortune. Your mother and I are both confident in you. We trust in you to further this kingdom.”
Boniface swallowed hard, finding it difficult to keep his voice leveled, “Yes, Father. I-I understand.”
His father reached up and gently touched his son’s cheek with a soft paw, his fur was a dull silver color. Showing old age.
There were no words shared between the two, as the father and son gave each other one final, silent goodbye.
***
Boniface didn’t dream after his father’s departure. He couldn’t. Each time he closed his eyes, he was met with darkness.
A void of nothingness as he slept. It was difficult without Father’s guidance.
When morning came, Boniface woke up. Getting out of his bed and drawing the curtains open. Pausing for a moment to watch the sun rise between the twin peaks in the far distance.
A knock pulled him away from the sight.
“You may enter.” he called out, turning to face whoever entered.
“Good morning, Sire.” the lambicorn bowed slightly, “Have your dreams guided you?”
The King tensed, and he shook his head, “No, no they have not. Once again, a night only filled with darkness.”
The royal helper’s face fell a bit, “Oh, sire. I’m certain you will have your dreams soon.”
Boniface didn’t respond as he strode past the royal helper, his head lowered and his shoulders hunched. He did not look like a ruler at all. And the fact that he did not dream, didn’t help his reputation at all.
He sometimes thought his father just tried to hype him up for nothing. Even as a child he struggled to dream. But it at least was something.
As he went around his royal duties, his mind continued to wander away. He wondered how he would ever hold his father’s name, and how he was going to rule this Kingdom without worry. All of these thoughts made him stressed and tired. Which made him snap to other’s on multiple occasions.
When out in the plaza. A stand caught his attention. A kind lambicorn seated behind it. Herbs that helped with things such as anxiety and muscle ache.
It clearly drew him in. And he walked away with Lavender and Chamomile (he planned to make tea with it.).

When night fell once more, the King brewed himself the tea out of the Chamomile he bought and went to the treasure room, searching for something. His mother’s gemstone collection.
When he found it, tucked away neatly behind some old books that have records of the history of the kingdom. He opened it and picked out a dusty Lepidolite.
He then went to clean it, so that it attracts positive energy. It was small enough to fit comfortably under his pillow.
Something had urged Boniface to keep the curtains open for the night, and he was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a clear sky tonight. The Moon and the stars being clearly seen. After a few heartbeats of gazing out, Boniface fell asleep.
***
When he awoke, he was greeted with a soft hum. A voice so soft, it nearly put him back to sleep. The King shook his head, and lifted himself to his feet, turning around as he took in his surroundings.
The ground beneath his feet was an endless void, scattered with small gemstones. They seemed to be a mix of Moonstones, and Amethysts.
And Lavender sprouted proudly from them.
Boniface carefully followed along the path that was laid out, all the way to a cliffside, where the darkness scattered with gemstones faded out. To a sunset and long grass.
The salty air of the sea made him step up to the very edge of the cliffside, hearing the waves crash down against the base of the cliff.
All the stress, and the sadness of Boniface faded away.
He never got to see the world outside the Kingdom, besides when he visited the neighbouring ones. And this sight he saw before him was certainly not one that he has seen before.
“Lovely, isn’t it?” came a soft voice from behind.
Boniface turned, looking at the source of the voice. It was his mother.
His shocked face quickly turned into an expression of joy as the two nuzzled each other in greeting.
“Mom!” he uttered as tears of joy sprang from his eyes.
The older lambicorn smiled, “Hello, dear..”
She shushed him before he could say another word, knowing it would lead to tears.
“I know it’s been difficult for you, but look how far you’ve come.” she cooed at him. Cupping his cheeks in her paws.
The King stayed quiet, as he listened. Often blinking away the tears that were close to falling.
“But we’re watching you and we’re so proud of you.” she said, “Come, let’s watch the sunset, shall we?”
She smiled as she turned back to the direction of the sea. And Boniface followed suit. Surprised to be met with not a sea, but a meadow, blooming with flowers. He watched as the sun started to sink lower and lower. Before finally vanishing.
His expression was that of wonder as he watched the flowers finally open up as the moon rose. And small little bugs, fireflies perhaps, came from them. Fluttering around the meadow.
He said nothing as he watched this happen before him.
The fireflies bundled up, before departing slowly as another lambicorn strode out from it. It was his father. And Boniface could no longer contain his tears as he weeped at the sight of both his parents returning.
He was immediately met with comfort, and encouraging words as they cleared away his tears. And he looked up to the former two respected rulers.
Both were smiling at him. Unconditional love in their eyes.

Boniface jostled awake. Taking a deep breath as he squinted at the rays of sun falling onto his face. He looked around, finding the empty cup next on his bedside table and the gemstone under his pillow.
But his parents were gone.
His face looked surprised, shocked even as he realized what had happened. He dreamed. He dreamed for the first time in years.
And his parents were there to greet him.
He swallowed a bit, feeling a bittersweet emotion along with excitement. He couldn’t believe it. They were there, it meant it was a brighter future for the Kingdom and him.
When the Royal helper finally came in for the day, to ask that question. He nodded.
“Indeed, indeed I did.” he responded, a small smile on his face. “And with it I can bear the news that the Kingdom will have a bright future.”
***
Boniface smiled as he watched the Kingdom prepare for the upcoming festival. It was another successful harvest this season. And he walked amongst his people with his head held high and in a proud stance.
All thanks to the King’s dreams. Dreams that were filled with signs to help him grow and his Kingdom prosper. Dreams where he could see his mother and father again.
Boniface had those wonderful dreams and finally he believed in his father’s words all those years ago.
