"He was digging too far for anyone to catch up to him. One day he woke up."
His mama told him he would step on toes with his pursuit of knowledge.
He would steal something precious of a stranger with his persistent digging.
Would it be secrets or a physical item?
As an archeologist it was his duty to find history and preserve it.
If Clay failed in his duty it would destroy him both financially and mentally.
He was just at a beach with a metal detector combing for random coins.
Clay imagined he couldn't possibly find anything of value here.
It was just something fun to do while he awaited funds to go on a real trip.
Maybe a lad could get lucky and find a watch or something of equal value.
When he heard a loud ping he jumped.
Admittedly he yelped as his heart rate shot up and he dropped the metal detector. Clay than scolded himself loudly
"Dummy this is expensive equipment."
He left the detector on the sand away from the water and began to dig in the spot that said ping had come from.
He dug a really deep hole than saw something metal and glowing.
Clay eyes widened at the treasure.
Judging by the glow it had to be a strange find. Being the curious sort he kept digging till he could hold and lift said item.
It appeared to be a golden skull.
Clay rushed out of the hole he had dug gleefully brandishing the find.
Clay than halted with eyes frozen in horror. His eyes were newly awoken to new sights.
The landscape of the beach had changed in his digging to that of a desert.
He threw the skull into the sand and the kalon collapsed. He yelled into his paws as the skull's eyes began to glow.
The skull rolled back to him and Clay understandably backed away.
He didn't understand this knowledge.
He didn't know where home was.
Clay thought of how scared he was.
The skull's mouth widened.
"Im scared. I can't find home." the voice coming from the object was warbled and soft
The eyes of the skull continued to glow at Clay as he sat staring at it while whimpering to himself.
His knowledge had ran too far and found an unknown. Clay looked around the desert trying to figure out what was happening to him. He could feel tears roll down his face. His questions stayed thoughts. Rather he could wish his questions stayed silent.
"Why is this place cold?
Where are the kalons?
What is this skull?
Can I find home again?"
The skull whispered his questions for the empty desert to listen to.
Clay tried thinking to himself reasonably. He wiped his face.
"Stop your tears and whimpers. If you walk you might find something."
The skull commented to Clay helpfully
Clay grabbed the skull with a shaking paw after staring at said object in silent fear for what felt forever. He nodded weakly at his voice that came out of the skull.
He could understand one thing.
Perhaps he was cursed with truth?
"The only way to find out the truth is to move forward. The only way to seek home is to keep digging."
