Lion name: Aurae
Lion gender: female
Pride: The Pantheon
Pride status: Dance and Ceremony head
Prompt: Oblivion by Grimes
Aurae sees worlds in eights. In dance that’s how she counts and because dance is her life that counting has bled into other areas. It helps her focus on the small things. It’s almost like meditation.
One.
Her number one favorite song is Oblivion. Although it feels unlike her other favorite songs it fits right in. The alien-like feel to it is poppy but soothing. Her sister Naiade doesn’t like the song as match although that’s to be expected, she likes classical music more.
Two.
Aurae started dancing when she was young. Just her and her sister, two small cubs twirling in the summer air.
Three.
Three years ago she had a traumatic incident. That’s why she loves Oblivion. The song is about growing from trauma, not letting it define you or your future. She has learned to overcome what has happened. It was slow progress but she now feels stronger and that song reminds her of how much stronger she really is now. Sometimes when things feel bleak or when she thinks about it while trying to sleep Aurae goes out into the moonlight and listens. Lightly dancing in no particular routine just whatever she feels at the moment. The songs lyrics of “see you on a dark night” add to the mood of surreality. A duet with no one but the moonlight
Four.
Four years from now Aurae and her sister will be able to go to dance school. Each morning as the birds first stir they practice in the meadow, they leap and spin all on the soft grass. Despite everyone assuring them of their talent they practice rigorously. Just like when they will little, two bodies twirling in the summer air
Five
Five roses sit in the jar at home, each one to represent a dancer in the family. Someday she wishes to add a rose of her own but not yet, not until she has reached her goals. She sees her sister who eyes it as well.
Six
Six spots! That’s all that will be open at dance school. The thought scares her despite her talent. She worries she will not be able to get in... and what of her sister? What if only one gets in.
Seven
“The seven sisters” a mountain range she can see from the pride. It’s what Aurae stares at to ground herself. To remind herself to calm down. That all she needs to do is focus. She shouldn’t stress about future. Even if she doesn’t get in (which her whole family doubts) she will still dance, it’s still her passion. She will make do and learn on her own. It’s not ideal but she doesn’t care, as long Aurae can express herself she’s happy.
Eight
The end of two measures, 4 counts for measure. Often the two measures are musically paired which is why dancers count in eight. A way of keeping with music. A pair of measures and a pair of siblings, both filled with passion.
