the colors of the rainbow were, without any uncertainty, the stunning aftermath of the rainfall. the rainfall, showering the world with pristine droplets streaked with silver and sky-blue, making their way downward without a single purpose in life. each of the tiny droplets carried unique, natural gorgeousness, until they were splayed to the ground, dissolving into much less appreciated puddles blended with muds and grasses.

but what was even more engaging then even rainfall? the bold hues of red and orange, the subtle showering of yellow and green, and the cool colorings of blue and violet. every child’s dream was to find and discover a rainbow, whether they were cows or humans.

and that was exactly what jasmine had seen. a young calf at the time, she had been carelessly cantering in the grasses when she had seen the bedazzled sight. it was a day she would never forget, the years passing by like mere minutes after the experience. she remembered the sun, the bright golden sun, illuminating its hues to make it shine even brighter, sparkle yet even stronger, and even add a touch of conceit in its midst. it was like the rainbow was showing off, even making a scene or an act, and it was all for jasmine, for no one else.

but of course, the rainbow faded from existence, as if she had been imagining it the entire time. she could have sworn she’d seen it that early afternoon, but then again, she could also have sworn she hadn’t.

there was one thing, however, she would always remember. the last color to fade from the rainbow, the color that was seemingly friendly enough to wave its final goodbye, it was red. the shimmering red of roses, raspberries, and rubies.

and that is why jasmine’s favorite color is, and will always be red. she doesn’t favor anything red in particular, but she likes the color for what it is and nothing more. but of course, if you were to ask her to pick one red thing in the world, she’d most likely set her thoughts on the fading red lights of the rainbow she had seen on that very day.

It seems the red has such a hurricane of opposing associations, and that is why it's so fascinating to Poppy.

Her favorite depiction of the color, however, can be found in the months of fall. When the weather begins to cool down, and the trees begin to change in preparation of the oncoming cold front. The trees become such a vibrant array of colors, and she cannot help but find herself especially attracted to the red ones. They remind her of a simpler time. When she was a young calf hiding under massive leave piles, jump scaring her friends and siblings. How they'd giggle and play for hours, until their cheeks were flushed and noses were tinged red from the cold. Red can be found in some of the most beautiful moments of life, you just have to look for it and learn to appreciate it, no matter its' association.
