"You've got some cool stuff," Jasmine commented, flicking through the pages of an old sticker book. "Scratch and sniff. Classic. My favorite ones were grape." Athena rolled her eyes. "You're such a nosy parker." "One of us has to be," Jasmine replied airily, eyes scanning the rest of the shelves.
Solya sat quietly on her bed, watching the twins and doing her best to be polite. She'd finally landed herself into a good foster home - she had her own room here - and this was her first time having friends over. Well, potential friends, maybe. She'd only been here for a month, in school for a few weeks. She wasn't the most...socially skilled person, with her upbringing, but these two had taken her under their wings.
Jasmine picked up a messily decorated shoebox and gave it an experimental shake. Objects rattled around inside. "This is actually a bit heavy," she said, and then laughed. "What have you got in here, rocks?" "For goodness sake Jaz, mind your own beeswax!" Athena scolded, and they started bickering again. Solya didn't mind. This was better than kids arguing for real.
The joke had been in good fun, an innocent jest, but the truth was that yes, in fact, the box was filled with rocks. They were of various size, shape, and color. They'd given her something to do. Something that had been hers, something she'd never told anyone about.
She smiled sweetly. For now this hobby would remain hers, and hers alone.

name: Tanzi
prompt: [250/250 words]
The covers of all her favorite paperback books had been ripped to shreds, scattered around her like the feathers of a flustered bird. The sight alone was enough to get others screaming in Tanzi’s face, demanding answers and recompense for the destruction she’d wrought. But, the pages of said books had been carefully contained, neatly stacked and kept together with a couple of binder clipsd. She loved these stories as much as the others did – she just wanted to personalize her favorites a little bit.
Tanzi was a little different from the other kids. Lost in a maze of words, she could see things the other kids couldn’t. Her mind saturated the words and phrases of a book with colors: ‘Once upon a time’ was a refreshing pale blue, and ‘After all, tomorrow was a new day’ was a warm, tangy orange. All the ‘I’s’ were a sharp yellow, but the ‘We’s’ were softer and more buttery. There wasn’t anything like reading a new book and being flooded with tons of brilliant colors.
Tanzi wanted to express her love for her colors and for her favorite novels by rebinding the books with covers she’d carefully designed. She took her time picking out the best passage and putting together a functional palette – some paragraphs were too much of a blur to really work with – on a slab of buckram board. Tanzi’s paintings were on the edge of abstract, but the scenes were still carefully depicted, loving decorated in Tanzi’s own style.
