Training Level 3: Halter 3/3

This afternoon I resumed Pearl's training. I got the halter on her without much trouble at all. Pearl was a confident mare and was already comfortable wearing her halter. Once the halter was on I gave her one last ear scratch before clipping on the lead. I then began to walk backwards, gently tugging on it to encourage her to follow. She hesitated for a second before walking closer to me. Once she was right in front of me I praised her and gave her a sugar cube. Pearl relaxed and we continued this process as we walked around the farm. As we went, she relaxed further until she seemed completely at ease. We soon reached our destination and Pearl's ears perked up. I had brought her to the pasture to meet some of the younger horses that were in our care. Pearl was excited and I unclipped her lead. She entered the pasture and within minutes was mothering the little ones. Some of them were annoyed but most were happy at her attention. After a few hours I led a very pleased Pearl back to her stall and praised her before heading out. She had hardly reacted to being led at all on the way back and I was pleased with her progress.
