Well, living in a bog doesn’t lend itself very well to keeping track of your footwear.
The last time Mort saw his croc, it was attached to his foot while he was sunbathing. Since then, however, he’s been mucking through the backyard and well. The mud is calf deep.
The dog will probably find it later, or it could be an artifact 1,000 years from now. Lord knows plastic never degrades.
