"The world is full of mysteries" said someone once. If only they had known how right they were.
Deep down, buried in a long forgotten temple, lies a golden plaque, majestically written in an ancient language, telling a legend about magic, love and suffering.
If you would like to know the story, you have to search the entire word from a corner to another, without the guarantee that you'll find it. There is only one creature alive who can help you- the one that the legend is about. So I'm gonna reveal to you the legend of me, known as Itzal- born in spite of everyone being against, with a great destiny on my paws.
Once upon a time, when the gods were walking among the mortals and the magic was everywhere, there was a very wise old woman, called "The Oracle" because she was thought to have the power to see the future. Humans, gods, Rokhtans alike were going to ask what their faith holds for them.
But one day, that old woman made a prophecy which spread fear among everyone:
"There will be one, son of the light and the darkness, who will bring death and will rule the entire universe."The King of the Rohktans was the most shocked of them all; he was selfish and proud, he couldn't let a silly prophecy took the throne of his hands. He felt like that prophecy was destined to him, so he tried to convince everyone that it was pure fiction.
Years have passed since the prophecy had been revealed and everything was quiet like nothing have ever happened. It looked like everyone forgot the dismal foresight... everyone apart from someone.
The King of the Rohktans couldn't find his peace since that day he heard those words from The Oracle. There was something inside him, as a shadow he couldn't get rid of, telling him that he is wrong not to believe, that he cannot escape from his destiny no matter how powerful he was. He was terrified by the thought that it could become reality.
He had a daughter, the most beautiful female Rohk the world has ever seen. She was the goddess of the Rainbow. It was a beautiful starry summer night and she couldn't sleep, as if something was about to happen. She went outside for a nocturnal walk. In the distance, a silhouette moved slowly. When she looked more carefully, she could distinguish a young Rokhtan, who seemed to have noticed her as well. She was curious to see who the mysterious boy was, so she gracefully waved her paw to him. He approached her without any noise, as if he didn't touch the ground. They were now so close that they could touch each other. Rainbow was amazed by the young Rohk's sublime features. He was the most beautiful being she has ever seen. He was feeling the same when he saw the moon light making her fur to look as made of silver. They fell in love one with the other and every night, they were meeting in the same place.
One day, she convinced the young lad to meet her father. When The King of the Rohktans saw them, he turned pale and started shivering. "Dad what's going on? Aren't you happy to meet him?" asked Rainbow frightened of her dad's reaction.
But he couldn't hear her, because his mind was working at an incredible speed and the only words repeating in his had were "There will be one, son of the light and the darkness, who will bring death and will rule the entire universe."
"He... he is Darkness" he said, after a long moment of silence. Rainbow, who couldn't understand her dad's behaviour, was visibly confused.
"I am forbidding you to see him ever again" she could hear the voice of her father as an arrow on her heart. She couldn't remember what happened next, because she blacked out.
The next months brought a lot of changes with them. The King of the Rohktans has permanently turned his daughter in a rainbow, so she can't see her loved one again. He sentenced Darkness at a mortal life after turning him into a human. But the prophecy couldn't be stopped and soon, Rainbow gave birth to a child.
To everyone's surprise, the kid was truly special: nobody had ever seen a winged Rohk, let alone one with claws, fangs and bones of rainbow crystals. He got the name Itzan, meaning raven, because of his wings and dark colour. He was thought to bring bad luck and that he was cursed by the gods that were angry on Rainbow for disobeying her father.
The King of Rohktans was overwhelmed in despair, as he felt helpless in front of his faith becoming true. He had no doubt now that the prophecy was about him and his grandson. So he had to get rid of Itzal as soon as possible. He tried in many ways but none succeeded; it seemed like the unusual Rohktan was protected by some kind of force, or worse... he was immortal "But nobody has ever heard of an immortal Rokhtan" he thought, trying to clear his mind. He became so obsessed with the idea that he couldn't find any rest until he would have seen his grandson dead.
"Yes I was always different and soon after I was born everyone started to remember that prophecy. For this reason I wasn't very popular among my kind. They saw me as a demon or worse. What they didn't know was that I was born with the gift... or the curse of immortality. I don't mean I can't be killed, but I know for sure I don't get old, I don't lose my strength. It's like the time never passed for me. This was the first sign, apart of my physical appearance, which got me thinking I'm far from being a normal Rohktan. Somehow I have always known I don't belong on there.
So I decided it was the time for me to leave and make my own life in a place where the others won't judge me for some silly words. I left the lands of Rohktans with the hope of a better life. I wanted to show others that in spite of my black fur and fierce appearance, I have no place for darkness in my soul."
So Itzal has left his home one night, without anybody suspecting anything, but soon after he left, the problems began to appear.
The winged Rohk was thought by the mortals to be a fallen angel, that's why he got called "The Light Bringer" or simply "Lucifer". At least he felt the humans are not repulsive with him, so he decided to stay there and help them how he could. Every night he was listening to people's wishes and then be was trying to fulfill them. Also, he was responsible for the sweet dreams.
That's how Itzal was managed to reach his father, through a dream. Meeting Darkness, a lot of his questions found their answers. That was the moment Itzal realized he can't run away from his destiny, as his grandfather tried to. So he opened his wings, swearing he will fix all the harm that the prophecy caused in his parent's lives and flight straight in the lands of the Rohks. When he faced The King of Rohktans he understood that a fight was the only way to solve this situation, although he knew that his grandfather would be capable of doing everything possible to get rid of him.
"I challenge you to a duel!" Shouted Itzal. Whoever wins, takes the lead of these realms.
And the fight started.
Even if The King was old, he was incredibly powerful and experienced in combat, not to mention that he was motivated to end with the terror of that profecy. It was a wild and uncontrollable desire, which turned him in a very dangerous opponent, ready to kill if he had the occasion. Itzal was aware of this thing; what he didn't know was that he was empowered with extremely strength by the combination of light with darkness that ran through his veins. Also his bones were increasing his magical abilities to such a level that no other Rohk has ever seen.
The fight was tough and equally until a moment when a rainbow appeares suddenly on the sky, distracting Itzal's attention, moment when The King pushed him over the edge. Itzal tried desperately to catch something to help him not to fall. He tangled his tail around his grandfather's leg who didn't expected and they both fell. Itzal opened his wings to avoid the impact but couldn't save his grandfather.
The legend says that, although he defeated his opponent with glory and he proved to be worthy lead, Itzal was so devastated by what happened that refused to be next to the throne, letting it to his mother, which was released under The King's spell and recovered her Rokhtan form and Darkness could finally return to stay by his pair's side.
The legend of Itzal wasn't one about glory, even if he saved the whole kind of Rokhs from the tyranny of his power- obsessed grandfather. It was about "Different doesn't mean bad" and "Don't judge a book by its cover", in the end, good always wins.
Nobody knows what happened with Itzal after that. Legend has it that he still uses his great powers to take care of the universe as the prophecy said. Other ones are saying that he went to live in the realm of the spirits, alongside his grandfather who understood that he was wrong ang regretted all those which happened. And there are another ones who say that he turned into a crystal statue because of the suffering of losing his grandfather, that crystal having strong magical powers and the one who poses that statue would be the strongest creature that ever existed.
Well, there's only one knowing the truth after all.
