Cyrus shifted in his spot; if only slightly, wondering what January had to announce.
The van stood in the glory of the sun; the light illuminating his fur, as if it were emphasizing his high status.
"Storm," he growled, and in a flash of his tail he gestured to the stormy-colored tomcat standing below him; below the rock which he stood on, in front of the crowd. "He has committed inexcusable acts of treason; riling up the Disturbance, in an attempt to overthrow me... your ruler."
The crowd reacted in such a negative manner; Cyrus attempted to gain a similar amount of hatred, but he could not feel it.
He knew Storm for such a long time; how could he feel their hate?
"There is only one punishment for this. Storm's fate is death."
His heart skipped a beat.
"And there is one cat worthy of committing to the task if he wishes to prove himself. Cyrus."
His eyes widened in a horrified shock; forced to the front of the crowd - to face the cat he once called a friend.
And he still did.
"Go on, then."
If he hesitated, if he spared him, he would be punished as well; but was it worth it, not to betray a friend?
He closed his eyes and made up his mind.
He was given a name, of sorts; a nickname, one could say - 'Stormkiller', as a reference to the actions he committed.
To the majority this was a good thing. He ended the Disturbance in a symbolic action, with the loss of life. The name he had been given was an honor.
And yet to the ones who revolted, and to himself most of all, this name symbolized a cruel betrayal.
