x. kalon name: kalina
x. also goes by: viburnum
( name meaning: feminine name of slavic origin meaning "viburnum" ) prompt: the line of kalons that were waiting to order drinks when
she first walked in the small kafe was intimidating, but kalina
swallowed the anxiety she had and went to stand at the rear.
her gaze quickly focused on the floor, her mind wandering as
a source of comfort; by doing this, the minutes passed quickly
and she was snapped back to reality when one of the kalons
behind the counter suddenly called to her.
she approached with a hesitant smile, embarrassed that she
didn't notice she was next. "i adore green and white fusion
tea," she said with delicate finality, confused by the array
of specialty drinks on the menu and deciding to avoid even
looking at it. after leaving an amount of money on the counter,
unsure of what to actually give them, she quickly turned away
to wait by one of the windows.
i don't think i'm supposed to
linger. she subtly watched the two behind the counter as
they playfully went about preparing drinks - there was just
an air of undisputed happiness about them, which made her
oddly happy since she had never even met them before. after
another short period of daydreaming, one of them came over
to her and offered her a cup. she was distracted again by
the bell collar they wore; she found it very pretty, something
that she suddenly wanted to find for herself. "here's your
drink, ma'am," they said lightly, slowly advancing the cup
closer to her when she didn't immediately take it. "and you
gave us some extra money, here's your change as well!" they
added, extending their other hand. "oh, thank you-" kalina
quickly answered, reaching out for the drink and money at
once. "i apologize, i guess i've been thinking so much lately
that i'm distracted from the present." with a short laugh she
tried to balance her tea as she put her change away into
a pocket. "not a problem, thank you for coming!" the other
kalon said before heading back to the counter.
kalina rushed to leave the kafe, finding it adorable but
unfortunately too crowded; it felt strange to be in such a
modern place as well. she went to sip her tea - and winced
as soon as she tasted it.
wow.. what happened?? she thought
frantically, removing the lid to look inside even though she could
already taste the mistake. this was an odd mix of green and
red tea, rooibos to be exact, and somehow some extra sweetener was
mixed in? "oh no, that's.. not good at all," she sighed, but couldn't
help laughing it off.
the bubbles led me here for a reason, even
if only because nalani was here for a mere moment. i must be
closer to her, and if anything i'm becoming a little more open
towards others, she thought as she tried to swallow another
sip. she looked up as another bubble danced over her head
before twirling off to her left.

the journey: the bubbles started appearing on a particularly
rainy morning, which prompted kalina to think that perhaps the
phenomena was something natural, but simply new and unknown
to her. when they kept appearing throughout the day, overnight,
and into the next day, she began to think instead that her mind was
the odd phenomena - was she hallucinating? it didn't feel so, she was
always of sound mind and these bubbles were very real, the way they
moved even seeming as if she was meant to follow them. something
so out of the ordinary was confusing and even frightening to her.
after such confusion, she sought out mother earth and asked why this
was happening to her. she discovered that mother earth was uncertain
of how to handle a particular
sylph who had great promise for her kind
but was too immature to return to her given lifestyle, living as a mortal
in punishment; as a hopeful new way of converting this sylph, kalina
would be sent to her. as a highly respected naiad, perhaps kalina would
be the answer to the sylph's unnatural desires to be a different
elemental spirit, and she could restore order in her.
taking the task with uncertainty but determination, even interest of
what the mortal world was like, kalina set out the next evening in
search of nalani, the bubbles meant to guide her to where the latter
was living. yet lately, something seemed off; she wasn't going in a
set path anymore, instead being led in all directions and all places. but
it must be happening for a reason, she thought hopefully to herself with
every new location they led her.
