Kalon name: Khairys (Khai/Ry ry)
Prompt:
Khairys has a general lack of trust for individuals as a result of her friendship experiences throughout the past. She's generally perceived as very "cool" and "refreshing," but few kalons--or any other species for that matter--are friends with her. One of the most unforgettable things about her happens to be the fact that she loves food--especially sweets. Many people have bribed Khai into meeting with them by buying lunch, breakfast, dinner, and snacks. She is also easily bribed by food and has a difficulty saying no when food is involved. There are actually quite a few memorable occurrences in her life, specifically regarding who she is and perspectives of others on her.. and manipulation through food. The following is a narrative on an unforgettable experience for both Khairys and any who know of it...
An obnoxious, repetitive beeping was audible through the soft, warm cushions and quilts the beautiful yet reserved kalon, Khairys, rested beneath. She did not want to get up, but she had a meeting with a passerby, or perhaps a stalker, she mused, who somehow understood her tendencies to accept anything with food involved. Of course, she tried to hide it best she could, but strangers would somehow always catch word of it. She didn't want to be manipulated again. Her perpetrator didn't even specify his request. All he asked for was to receive her presence at the local kafe, where he would purchase for her whatever she desired from the menu. "He underestimated my metabolism," she scoffed softly, "along with my hunger for sweets."
She felt lucky, in a sense, that she was being asked out to a public location rather than a private one. She felt far less concerned over the fact he didn't appear to have ill intentions, especially after thinking over the abrupt, thoughtless decision she had made. "That's right. If he wanted anything to do with killing me or harming me, he would have asked me to a more reserved location." She sighed softly, stretching in her relief. "And, had he been stalking me, he would have understood my hunger levels far better."
Now relaxed, Khairys felt far more prepared to start her day. She slipped into more "formal" attire, slipping on her comfortable yet saggy men's jeans, white T-shirt, and yellow-green flannel. She then pulled her hair back with a comb and tied it into a ponytail. With that out of the way, she headed out toward this Kafe.
On her way, nothing far exquisite happened, aside from the typical gawking strangers. She wasn't sure if they were admiring her or if they were disgusted with her, but she lacked a care over which it was. She generally wanted to be left alone.
Once she arrived, it appeared that the kalon working at the counter recognized her instantaneously. She sent another staff member escort Khai toward the passerby from her prior encounter--strange for cafe staff to do. Once she reached the stranger's table, she asked him if he understood why the staff were acting strangely: "Does the Kafe always do this when you make reservations?"
"Dunno, but it's pretty cool they doin' it for us, yeah?" His gaze faltered. He peered down toward his fingers. He was wearing an awfully nice outfit--it complemented his colors gorgeously. Khairys couldn't help but notice the stranger's sense of style. It was almost too mesmerizing. She sat down across from him.
"You said you'd buy me anything I ordered from the menu so long as I met you here, correct?" She stared into his eyes, fervor exhibiting itself in her gaze. She was determined to purchase everything from the menu she was fond of. Her worries completely dissipated.
"Yeah, you ken have everythin' ya want, girl," he said, short pauses between his words. Then, he cleared his throat and mumbled a few words under his breath. He seemed nervous about something, but Khai didn't care. She just wanted her food.
"Great! Let's go order, then!" She stood up abruptly, then tugged at the stranger's arm. He stood up in response, then followed Khai lazily through the Kafe. At the register, she requested a strawberry cheesecake with extra whipped cream, three brownies with powdered sugar, two caramel-chocolate cappuccinos, a cinnamon bun, and a glass of milk. The stranger ordered an iced coffee with minimal creamer.
The person at the register set their name as "Fiances," but Khai politely informed them that their intuition was incorrect and that the two were only acquaintances.
Khai packed up the majority of the food she received from the Kafe into a box she came prepared with. Then, she sipped at her caramel-chocolate cappuccinos. "So..." she started, "Why did you bring me out here?"
"A-a-a-about that," the stranger started, pulling something out of the pocket from his overcoat. "I wa-wanted to ask ya fer a fav'r..."
Khai's fur along her spine prickled. Dread suddenly drenched over her chest. "What favor, sir..?" Genuinely, she didn't hope to ask. She preferred to pretend neither of them said anything.
"W-w-well..." He stood up, his chair almost falling behind him, then stared down at his feet and rested out a small velvet box. "W-w-will you marry me..?"
Khai froze. Many people were staring at the two strangers, and the staff at the strange Kalon cafe seemed to know exactly what was occurring. "Pardon...?" Khai was in a daze. Did he just ask me to marry him? she questioned. Everyone crowded the two, anticipating a response.
"M-m-m-marry me, beauteeful miss!"
Khai peered around, then looked at the stranger with pity. She sighed softly. "Sir... We've only known one another for a few days." She rubbed the back of her head. "I don't even know your name." The crowd around them stared aggressively.
"I-i-it's Joujin!" He said, as if his name would instantly make Khai wish to marry him.
"Look... Joujin... Marriage isn't for me. We hardly know one another... you don't know who I am or what I like..." To this rejection, the crowd let out an "Awe..." and dispersed.
"I know ya like food!" He gazed at her desperately.
"Sorry, but look.. I can't say yes." She shook her head and began to feel an increasing pity for the poor, creepy, desperate man. Then, Khai suddenly had a desire for crepes. She can store the rest of her food at home. "Look, I'll buy us some crepes! As a sign that we can be friends... and an apology that I don't feel the same." Crepes always made her feel like herself again, so she figured they may cheer the two up. Without getting a response, she requested the staff whip up some strawberry crepes for the two of them.
Then, she grabbed the crepes in between her fingers and ran over to Joujin. However, as if it couldn't get any more embarrassing, she tripped into him and spilled her strawberry crepes--whipped cream and everything--all over his expensive silk overcoat.
She panicked and rushed the man to the bathrooms to dab his silk coat to prevent any stains. "God, I'm sorry," she repeatedly whispered to the guy. "Should we set up a payment plan for this? I can pay for the coat over my next few paychecks. It looks expensive."
Joujin took a while to respond, as if deciding whether or not to say something. When he did respond, however, he decided it would be a great opportunity to propose: "Ya can marry me and I won' press any charges."
Khairys groaned. "I shouldn't have asked. Look, I'll pay the price for the jacket. Nothing else if I don't have to."
"I was just kiddin'," He said, although he was being entirely serious. "I won' press charges anyhow. Jus' ferget this all happened."
Khai and Joujin parted ways and never saw one another again, but Khai's experience scarred her for life and left a large impression on those watching the incident. She decided to hold back on food temptations, but lacked greatly in her ability to do so.
