Cypress owns a plant nursery and teaches a plant care class on Earth Day.

his past.
water reminds him of his past.
and he hates it.

he lived in a civilization of underwater dinoken, and he hated it. his parents always coddled and sheltered him. they barely ever let him out of the house. being that they were the king and queen, and he was their only child, he could understand their motivation. still, he longed to get out and see the surface. to be away from them. for at least a minute. when they arranged for him to be married to some random 'ken he neither knew nor cared about, that was the last straw. it became clear to him then that he was only important to them for his future place on the throne, and they didn't actually care about him. if they did, maybe they'd know he didn't want to be married, or at least not to a girl. on the night before his wedding, he escaped the palace and swam up to the surface. he's been on the run ever since. every time he sees a body of water, he fears that his parents will come out of it and force him back to the throne.

What does water represent for them?: Water is a representation of life. For Laz and the 'ken who dwell under the surf, water is their way of life. It guides them, through currents rough and strong or gentle pushes from the waves to unseen places never before discovered. It brings life into their homes, fills the area with food and friends. It's the magic beneath his wings when he swims to the surface. It's where he was born in. It's where he will die in. The cycle of life will continue, long after his bones have been put to rest. The water is their life, and they would give their lives to the water.

Jasper scooped up the small saplings with gentle care from the bag, dropping them each into a small hole of their own. He took time to neatly smooth the dirt back over the sapplings’ roots, sprinkling miracle grow in with each. He generously water the little trees with his pale, a smile lighting his face as the sun seemed to grow a little warmer, inviting its new friends with a marked joy. Jasper planted trees each year on Earth day in front of the small park near his apartment, the saplings from next year already standing taller and proud of their growth. Afterwards he would walk across the street to the row of businesses near by, and patiently gather the trash surrounding the area. Most would stare at him as he did so, but he finds that he doesn’t mind. Even if the Earth isn’t important to most people like it should be, it only takes a few people caring at all to make a world of difference.
