thought process: I feel like generally I struggle a lot to just relax and do nothing. But my favourite moments are when I can just sit and look at nature. Most notable are the summer nights; it doesn't get dark until about 9 or 10pm, and you can sit out there in a shirt and jeans and not freeze. The warm breeze is soothing, and looking up and watching the sunset makes me feel calm and at peace. It's nice to observe the colours in the sky, orange, pink and red as the sun lowers on the horizon, and find it so interesting how you can start to spot the stars and even the moon, a semi-transparent silhouette in the sky. The day and night combine for just a couple of hours.
Then there's the nature you can see when you go outside to watch the sky. I can sit back in my deck chair and follow flocks of birds as they soar around, making circles, or the odd couple of swifts. Sometimes around dusk I can even catch a couple of bats. I like to think about their sentience, how developed they are mentally, and what their lives are like. How I would feel if I was up there. Scared, at first, but eventually I would feel free. My dog often joins me to look at the sky and he patrols the garden, or comes over to nuzzle my hand. After a while he settles on the grass down by my patio and relaxes, lying on his side and occasionally opening his eyes to look at me. It's these moments, in the quiet calm of the evening, that make the stresses of life worth it. I can hear myself think, or not think at all, and just be in the moment with my dog and the world around me. It makes you feel like your problems are tiny in a world this big, and I can only imagine what I can achieve.
Finally, at night time I like to watch the sky. On a cloudy night, the way the clouds obscure the moon, then it peeks out inbetween, is mesmerising. I love when it's stormy and I can sit in my bedroom window, watching the rain pour down, lightning flash through the clouds. Or on clear nights, looking for constellations, imagining how big the universe must be out there. How much we don't know, how much we might be capable of doing one day. I'm taken away from my day and my troubles, just for a while, watching the glinting of the stars, the flash of plane lights as they cross the sky, or even meteorites during a shower. (448)
Mark, I cannottt believe how pretty all these kals are turning out, I love them so much!
