Anything and everything. From childhood, Grace rarely took ill but was always terrified of the various bacteria and things that her fellow Kalons were toting around, and did whatever was deemed necessary to keep it away from her. Whether that was eating the healthiest things to bolster her immune system, or wearing one of many face masks in her collection, she had no problem doing it. From childhood she carried little bottles of sanitizer with her, knowing that she would have to touch things that others had touched just to get through her day. Even though it was often deemed rude of her, Grace refused to go near those who thought they were sick or getting sick, and had to be dragged to the hospital because she'd never go willingly to a place where they stored the most ill of them all.

Of course as she got older, her methods only got stranger as she learned more things from around the world that might help her in her quest to be healthy always. Even though she hated needles, Grace did acupuncture for a while, allowing them to jab the tiny things into her while she tried to distract herself with headphones and her favorite music. During the winter she would order groceries and supplies in so she'd have less reason to go out, and when she had to she'd spend half an hour bundling herself up beyond belief.

Many scoffed at her weird ways of trying to ward off germs. No animals were allowed in her home - she just couldn't take the chance of what they might be carrying, no matter how cute they were. People at the gym she attended (only at night since that meant the lower chance of other patrons being there in the first place) giggled as they watched her rub herself down with a towel after every workout to aid her body's circulation. But to Grace, it was little work to help her body do it's jobs properly. Some things were easy: no fast food or sweets. Others were harder: not touching a cashier's hands when she gave them money. Either way, she did it all.

The pay-off, of course, even though many call her eccentric and crazy, has been well worth it. She's even heard the word 'germaphobe' tossed around a lot, but she insists she's just keeping herself healthy like many want to. Grace is rarely sick, and even when she is it passes very quickly and with few consequences. She's never had to stay in a hospital or have a surgery, and loves to brag about that.

Helga utterly despised being sick.
The hacking coughs, the nose so stuffed with snot she felt she would never breathe freely ever again. The feeling of being too warm and too cold at the exact same time and suffering under piles of blankets with a pile of tissue boxes next to her.
It was rare for her to get sick, and Helga prided herself on her nearly infallible immune system. The easiest way to prevent becoming sick, though? Well, she'd get her vaccines, but also dressing warmly! Helga has always been obsessed with jackets, sweaters, blankets, you name it. They were easy to snuggle into, and, if you selected the right thing, incredibly soft. At times, she felt like a walking pillow. Layering all the winter wear was worth it, in Helga's opinion, even if it took forever to take everything off. She'd rather be safely wrapped like a burrito then stuck at home, coughing her lungs out.

Of course, there are those times where Helga would get sick. Whenever she did, she crashed, hard. She could be in a comatose state for days, sniffling and dragging herself around the house when she needed to get up. One thing she could always enjoy was tomato soup. Instead of the conventional chicken noodle soup, her mother had always made her tomato soup on the rare occasion she managed to get sick, and it always brings the warmth of home to her when she sips it after a bad day or a rough bout of coughing. After a week, she'd be back up and bouncing around like normal, snuggling in her winter wear and waiting on summer to arrive. [278/500]

how do they keep themselves from getting sick?; She likes to wash her fur with various herbs like mint, she believes it helps keep away any harmful germs. Truthfully, she's got an incredible immune system. She may do a little.. witchcraft to help keep her from sickness but that's a secret. No one knows of her abilities and she would like to keep it that way.

how do they keep themselves from getting sick?; Lola Grace would always bring the most ridiculous thing she owns. Every time she goes out, she rummages through her closet to find something weird to bring along. How does she get these things you ask? Thrift stores. They always have the weirdest things out for sale. She always stops at one at least once a day. All of the stores know her by name. This trick has worked ever since she got her own place. She usually tends to bring dead, stuffed animals. That's her main thing. Or she would wear a ridiculous hat, that seems only clowns would wear. She doesn't have these things with her when she's home. She lives alone and doesn't have to worry about anything getting her sick. Her friends know about this quirk she has, but they all love her still. Though she does get angry when they get too close to her. She always gets weird looks, but she doesn't care. Who would want to be so vulnerable to illnesses? (168/500)

Sickness. Oh, dear lord how it terrified her.

Just a subtle cold was enough to put her on edge, for her thoughts to be laced with paranoia.

Paranoia of what happened to her mother would happen to her as well...

Growing up, Juniper's mother was always a sickly kalon. Always had a nasty cough complimented with a weak stature, fragile as glass, threatening to perish at any given moment. She carried this state all the way until she had passed, leaving behind her only child to fend for themselves with no other family support.

Juniper had always maintained curiosity and interest in biology throughout her childhood. She adored nature and was always enthusiastic about lessons involving anatomy. Perhaps it was because she subconsciously had the drive to seek a cure for her mother, or found the body's functions to be so intricate and precise. Either way, her passion revealed to be eventually working in the medical branch.

Though this persisted, she would still find herself in an uncomfortable and rather squeamish situation when discussion of the immune system, or viruses, or diseases, or anything related to those came up. She would be reminded of her vulnerability despite how advanced the body may be... Reminded of how vulnerable her mother was, how she was taken the victim to this.

Naturally, Juniper was someone you'd consider to be a 'germaphobe' by societal means. She'd wash her hands after doing anything, carried a safe supply of hand-sanitizer and wiped down anything she would come in contact with in fear of sickness creeping up on her. Though all this made sense, it wasn't as intuitive as she once thought. Throughout her education, she learned that the body must come into contact with these germs in order to recognize them in the future and therefore fend them off. Meaning, it was better to let your body be exposed to those germs and bacteria in order to strengthen your immunity.

With a few nervewracking months, Juniper had refrained from her usual routines of sanitizing from this newfound knowledge... And, much to her surprise, she had not gotten sick that year. Not even a hint of a cough, a runny nose, or a cold.

She was intrigued.

She wanted to learn more.

And so, she did. Juniper became more specialized in the immune system and decided to go into medicine. She enjoyed researching it more than anything and had faith that she would be able to uncover cures for the mysterious and ever-changing sicknesses that plagued the world today. She would do it for her mother, who never successfully recovered. She would do it for herself, to maintain her own health.

There are a lot of methods other kalons supposedly use to prevent sickness. Juniper, however, isn't traditional in those means. Instead of living in a theoretical bubble, she keeps herself healthy through educating herself with thoughts of her mother always present in the back of her mind.

herbs from around the outskirts of the town and morticia’s personal garden abundant with them were simply a lively hold for her. morticia was a simple healer with simple remedies found in herbs. often used in brews for simple cures, these herbs served as a way to save someone from the simple sickness but not fully. no one necessarily took her title as a herbal healer as a great title but a useful job for the rural town. many of them often use her herbal brews to fight off common sickness and aches to save the trip to the doctors about two hours away. with common sicknesses about gone in her rural town, she has been granted herd immunity to herself with that.

herbs are a key ingredient for her brews; however, spells of the healing gods from her beliefs served as another key component along with her own willpower. no one tends to receive these brews besides herself. she knows that it may not be as effective for others according to the book that she receives these spells from that it might be effective for others who don’t believe in those gods. she can’t be certain if these spells work; however, the effects are sure felt and cure some simple things. she always uses it on herself as she knows that it would be more than to cure or prevent any illness.

this dedication from morticia to granting herb immunity through herbal remedies and some spells in the mix keeps her rural town from being overrun with sicknesses. helping out with her natural remedies can help keep herself from getting sick; however, she always tried to say that her remedies can’t heal everything, so an occasional doctor visit is always on her calendar somewhere.
