personality; Delta at first seems like nothin' but a bully. Always giving glares, always whispering things to her friends which makes them laugh. She really isn't, though. Best way to describe her is that cool older cousin you had as a kid who you always wanna hang out with. She's quite humorous and enjoys a good laugh once in a while. She's also deeply invested into animals, more importantly the reptiles. If you know her good enough you'll know for a fact how much she can ramble on about a certain reptile species before you even get her started. She isn't very loud in strange environments but occasionally her true colors can shine. She just overall has this "cool" and "chill" vibe to her. She also has a pet horned lizard which if you lay one of your crusty fingers on she goes full protective mother.

Running through an endless wood,
seeing things you thought you never could,
rabid beasts and cloaked friends,
yet all good stories need good ends,
phoenix nods as you leave,
there is not a moment to grieve,
yet maybe this all had you deceived?
what if this was all a story,
that didn't show it's true glory,
and what happens to the visitor after they go?
do they return again, but keep their profile low?
so much wonder and so much thought,
bound to get your brain caught.

nais steps through the front door and drops her bag on the ground, sliding her shoes off beside the backpack. with a heavy sigh, she flops on the couch and nestles her face between the crook of her arm. as she starts drifting off to sleep, she realizes that she's not alone at home.

a loud shout is heard from upstairs, followed by a scream and a crash.

she jumps to her feet and sprints up the stairs, rushing into the master bedroom. "get out!" her father yells and points to the door aggressively, his face red. her mother cowers beneath him and holds her head in her hands, staring at the ground.

athenais glances around the room -- there's broken shards of a lamp, and picture frames have been cast carelessly onto the ground. something bigger than her is going on, but that won't stop her. "no," she replies defiantly and turns to face her father.

"no? what do you mean no?" he growls and clenches his fists, seemingly ready to punch her.

nais looks back at her mother, purple and blue around one side of her face. someone already got the majority of his punches, but no longer would this happen. "you said you'd love her forever. you said you loved me. you're such a liar. you don't deserve to live in this house anymore," athenais retorts very calmly.

"of course i-- she's your mother! and my wife!! if i didn't love both of you, i would've left a long time ago," he roars.

"people don't hurt those that they love."

a stinging slap to the face sends her reeling, and nais has to blink multiple times before she's brought back to earth. both her father and mother are screaming at each other, her mother backing away to make a quick escape out the door. call the police, she thinks and moves towards her father. athenais wouldn't ever act violently in other circumstances, but she has to make a distraction.

she leaps onto her father's back and covers his eyes, sending him into another angry flurry. her mother rushes out of the room, her footsteps pounding as she runs down the stairs and hopefully to the nearest phone. her father pries her fingers off of his face and holds her up by the hands with only his right hand, glaring at her fiercely. "you have no say in any of this," he spits. nais attempts to squirm out of his grip, but her only holds her tighter and pokes her with his left pointer finger.

before he can do worse, police sirens are heard from far away. they get closer with each passing moment, and realization dawns on his face.

explanation: both her mother and nais have been abused by her father for years until she finally stood up to him as a teenager. she still looks back at that moment with both pride and guilt, for she still loved her father despite what he did. over the years, she's remained living with her mother. they both suffer from ptsd and have trouble trusting males.
