doll name: Khara
gender: female
shadow's name: Elyse
story:
A loose giggle escaped Khara's lips as she gazed into the mirror, one arm moving slowly - stiff, but not painful - to brush a loose piece of lavender hair out of her large eyes. The scarlet irises scanned up and down her form, drinking it in. But from an outsider's view, those eyes probably looked blank, far-away, dreamy almost, like she was looking at something else entirely. "Nothing new," She trilled to herself, pursing her lips to blow the talisman out of her view. "Same as always." Khara tilted her head, a crooked smile growing slowly from side to side.
In the back of her mind was a foggy memory of a girl who looked just like she did, gazing into a mirror like this one and sobbing. The girl was on her knees, her black and white dress bunched around her skinny legs, as the girl doll picked at the visible scars on her arms and face and scowled at the minty hue of her skin.
Khara let her brain wander, watching internally as the girl tugged at the ends of her hair in an attempt to straighten it, smearing a horrendous amount of makeup over her scars and most of her skin. She even harshly shoved two large contact lenses into her eyes, turning the vibrant red into a dull, normal brown color. When she was finally finished the girl stood back, panting and exhausted from her efforts, yet still not looking happy with what the mirror was showing her. The doll whimpered, a few more tears dripping as she tried in vain to wipe them away, instead they left shiny streaks in the oily makeup that caked her face.
What a silly girl! Khara couldn't help but think to herself that was so much work to do for nothing. What was wrong with her? She giggled again as she surveyed her own body - she and the girl could be twins! But Khara was pretty, so pretty!
Trotting over to her dresser as she straightened the bows on her dress, Khara continued to smile broadly, even as she kicked an old, dusted contact lens under her bed. Then she left, ready to face the day.
