Prompt;;The lake was always a place of mystery for Cricket. There was fish, and fresh water to drink, but it wasn’t of interest to her. She never could stand to get her paws wet, anyway, and birds and ground squirrels fed her enough that she didn’t need to dip her paws in to fish.
Streak was a strange exception. Despite the rest of her clan avoiding the lake like it was poisonous, Streak sought out the water for splashing in. She called it a “bath”, a very foreign term, and Cricket didn’t try to think about it too much.
On a whim, Cricket decided to go for a walk by the lake, to see exactly why Streak liked it so much. As she looked into the water, she thought it wasn’t half bad. Ripples coursed across the lake, blending with each other when they touched. The lake was exceptionally clear, and she could see the orange-and-gray stone blending on the bottom, and the fish swimming above. Maybe, if she stretched, she could catch one close to shore—
Cricket screamed as a dark shape leapt out of the water at her. She was wet, her pelt was wet, she was being attacked! The water stung her eyes, and she squeezed them shut in pain.
“Oh, Cricket!” It was a familiar voice, and her attacker let her go. “I’m sorry, I was just trying to have a bit of fun with you.”
Cricket shook her head free of the water, and looked up. “Streak...?”
“I can swim very well, you know,” Streak explained. “There’s a small cavern with breathable air down there, and I saw the ripples you made when stretching out your paw into the water. I like to hide down there; but I can’t for very long.”
