"Shh!" a tiny ginger kit cried out. Handfuls of them were littered around the nursery, all of them eager to hear Breamstripe's story.
"She tells the best stories"
"Even better than Smokefang?"
"Way better than Smokefang."

"Now, now. Let's not name names." Breamstripe laughed. "Are you ready?"

Squeals of 'yes!' filled the nursery. Even a few of the queens were closer than necessary.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful cat, and her name was-"

"Mistkit!" Mistkit interrupted.

"-her name was Misty. She wasn't from OceanClan nor any other clan for that matter. She was a loner."

"What's that?" a Tinykit asked, one of the youngest of the group.

"It means a cat who isn't a kittypet or in a clan." Breamstripe provided. "Now where was I? Misty the loner was beautiful indeed, but only on the outside. She was actually really mean and thought that she should be the boss of everyone?”

“Like Sealstar?” Bramblekit questioned.

“No! Sealstar is amazing and definitely beautiful on the inside too!” another kit interrupted.

“Kits, kits! I’ll never get through my story if you keep interrupting me. You can ask questions at the end okay.”

The group sullenly agreed, allowing Breamstripe to continue in peace.

“Now, Misty’s real name was Bella. Bella thought she was the best cat ever and wanted everything to come to her naturally without actually working just because she was mates with a very powerful cat.”

Breamstripe saw Bramblekit about to interrupt again before Mistkit clawed his foot.

“Bella lived in Twolegplace and knew many of the kittypets there. She forced them to give her their food and shelter. Shelter means kittypet nests, before any of you ask.” She interjected. “Anyway, Bella wasn’t nice to these kittypets, she treated them like her servants. As if she was better than them. She wasn’t.

One day she went to the forest because she’d heard of some kittypets who refused to do what she pleased. She thought it would be easy, but she met the fierce OceanClan warrior, hm, can anybody guess?”

“Sealstar?” “Stoatclaw?” “Maplestorm?” “Sedgefur?” “Dawnmask?”

“It was Dawnmask! Good guessing! Now, when Bella met Dawnmask she was unafraid, not knowing she was trespassing on OceanClan territory. She was extremely surprised when Dawnmask threatened her and tried to chase her away, but Bella refused.”

Gasps came from all the kits, they knew Dawnmask and her ferocity well.

“Bella was brave but stupid. And very arrogant. She continued on her way, Dawnmask following her, not wanting to leave her alone to get backup. Bella wandered through the forest until she came across a hunting patrol who swiftly overpowered her and chased her from the territory.

But Bella was determined to find where the kittypets were hiding their food from her on her own. She snuck through the forest, undetected until she crashed right into Sealstar on a patrol with Sedgefur, Dawnmask and Eaglefeather. Dawnmask immediately recognised her and told Sealstar about her. As I’m sure some of you will have guessed by now, Bella was one of the gang members of the twolegplace. Some of you also might know Sedgefur used to be one of them too.”

A few more shocked gasps escaped from the kits mouths while others stared at her knowingly.

“Sedgefur immediately recognised her, as did Bella recognise him. They hadn’t been friends, much the opposite, and they almost attacked each other where they stood. But Sealstar intervened.

Bella learnt about the clan life and decided it was much better than being part of a gang. She understood where she had gone wrong and apologised to all the kittypets she had been mean to.

Sealstar let her become an apprentice of OceanClan and changed her name to Breampaw, and eventually Breamstripe. She lived happily ever after.”

“Wait- That’s you!” Tinykit exclaimed.

“Correct.” Breamstripe purred. “Not all of us were lucky enough to be born into the clan.”
