failure. it's a beast always one step behind him. it growls in his ear and he cowers in fear, afraid of what he cannot do and afraid of what he may become.

isaac has always been obsessed with building a legacy. when he was eight he was determined to get into high school by twelve, when he was fourteen he taught himself how to code to test out of computer science, when he was seventeen he was accepted to both harvard and stanford. he always wanted more, he always craved more, the beast of failure growling his shortcomings in his ear so loudly he could never hear his praises. he was running faster, running harder, and one day he knew his heart would burst from the pressure.

but he could not stop. he could not fail. the harsh grips of shame curled its hands around his heart and squeezed anytime failure got too close for comfort; he could not handle the feeling, he could not handle the shame, he could not handle failure.

so, as toxic as it was, isaac wouldn't allow himself to fail. not now, not ever. failure was not an option.

“Who is it?” I hollered, could I have some peace.

“It’s me Thea!”

“Come in.” I said as I opened the door. She plopped on my bed. “I just got the best idea, if I was a demigod, I would totally be Athena’s daughter, that way I would never fail math class!” She sighed as she held her book to her chest, “I wish I could go to camp Half Blood.” I smiled at her, “now who gave you that idea?” “That would be me!” My other sister Janey popped in. Thesese two could be a real pain but they were my family, what could you expect? We lived together, just the three of us, technically we live with our uncle but he got so wrapped up in work, we were home alone almost every single day, we didn’t complain, it was better then an orphanage. We never knew our mom cause she passed away when we were little but I’m pretty sure she had me and got divorced before she had Janey and Thea. Our uncle lived in the big city as a rich politician while we stayed in the house. Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s a nice man, plus I don’t think he could handle all of us! “So are you ready for school?” Janey asked. “You’ll be in 8th grade!”

The following day

I walked up the familiar steps, it felt like yesterday that school was out. Ugh, now back to another year of torture. Could this day get any worse?

“Alright class, my name is Ms. Jones and I will be your homeroom teacher and your English teacher. Welcome back to Lakeside Middle. Now let’s begin with some class rules. Blah blah blah.” It was the same every year, except this teacher was boring, I was zoning out, everything the teacher said, I couldn’t hear or careless. Suddenly a crash came from down the hallway. The class stirred in confusion, suddenly the door burst open and in came in the creepiest looking people. They had no head and a face on their body, they smiled. “No need to worry kids, were here for Leo.” The teacher and the class seemed confused. “Oh yeah, he’s right over there.” My brain was screaming at me to run. They lunged at me as scurrried out the seats, the class went crazy. The teacher was yelling that it was just the sprinklers so we should all calm down. Sprinklers? These crazy monsters were attacking me. I ran out the door as the hollered at me, they were gaining on me. I turned the corner and ran out the courtyard. There, two kids I never seen before stood by three creatures that looked like Pegasus. “What happened?” They rushed to my side. I was panicking, “m-monsters”. My legs were shaking, my heart was racing, what was happening. “How old are you?” Asked the boy. “T-thirteen.” “He’s one of us”, said the girl. “Get on, we’ll explain later.”

Raja is a bit stoic, as he likes to appear tough and doesn't like to be vulnerable in front of others. The stereotype that guys are suppose to be tough, invulnerable and fearless keeps Raja from voicing these fears. He is afraid of rejection and not being wanted/needed by others, specifically the Kalons that he is close to. He fears deep down that they do not really care for him, or that they wouldn't need him anymore, if, for example, they started hanging out with someone more exciting.

What are they most afraid of?
Meeko is afraid of time. He can't pause it, stop it or rewind it and he certainly can't take it back. By no means is he a control freak, but he's always afraid of slipping up when it matters most or not being in control when the situation is perfectly controllable. Time if something he never has enough of and will often stay up long past his bedtime because once he goes to sleep... That's it. That day it over, part of the next is gone without him being there to greet it...
