Prompt: Day 1

Maybe this was a bad idea.Pip looked at the rushing water beneath his feet and gulped, tail wavering unsteadily in the air as the creek roared below.
Why did he let the other kals talk him into stuff like this? One of the kalons from the other bank shook out his golden fur, the light glinting off of the alluring tail shine and dazzling fanged smile in a way that made Pip's jaw go slack. His heart did a sort of twisting, flying thing that definitely should have had any sane doctor concerned as it beat across Pip's rib cage.
Oh man, that's why. Mmhmm, that is definitely what he's out here for. Dang."Come on, it's just a creek!" The golden boy shouted from across the river, swishing his tail back and forth.
Right, just a creek. Only a few steps, and everybody else did it, so no big deal, right?
Unless you're a kalon who can't swim.Then it's a Big Deal.
This was definitely a bad idea.Pip's chest was heaving up and down and his breath was coming out in short gasps as he took the step that would put his entire weight on the tree bridge beneath, which, if he was being honest, looked like it might disintegrate with a gust of wind. Not exactly confidence-inspiring. Still, he took the step gingerly and slowly, the branch creaking.... crackling....
CRACK!This was a terrible idea.Pip gave a very, totally not wimpy screech as he leapt backwards like he was burned with coals, and just in time. A split-second later and he would have been in the creek with the rotten old branch. No, thank god he was safe, and clinging oh-so-bravely to a tree with pupils the size of saucers. This was much better.
"Any other fantastic ideas?" Pip hollered at the group, who were all snickering at him from the other bank. Even the golden one.
But man if he isn't cute when he's laughing too... FOCUS.Pip shook his head like a dog shaking water out of it's ears. Now was no time to be distracted by the handsome boy on the other bank, he still had to find a way over. He decided to list his options of getting to the other bank:
1. Cross the tree bridge.
Pretty sure that one's out.2. Build a new tree bridge.
With what tools? His umbrella? Not happening.3. Jump across.
The gray kalon looked at the gap between the two sides then down at the churning water.
Nope. Pip wished desperately that it hadn't just rained and that the creek wasn't moving so fast as another branch- this one was almost a log- was carried past by the current.
Dang, that log's pretty big. The creek really is wild today to be able to carry something so heavy. The kalon watched the log dissapear down the river as an idea slowly formed in his head.
Light bulb!Pip reached back into his backpack and pulled out a collapsible umbrella with little trains on it.
This is probably a bad idea.Pressing the button on the handle, the umbrella sprang open with a sharp
click.
"Hey! Where are you going?" The cute kal across the stream yelled over the water as Pip walked away from their group and a little ways upstream. Coming to a patch that ran close to the water, Pip grabbed a long, sturdy stick and took a deep breath, feeling as though a flock of anxious birds were trapped in his stomach.
This is the worst idea. That was the last thought that Pip had before he took his sturdy train umbrella and his stick and jumped into the river, the umbrella cupped beneath him. The strong current sloshed around the terrified gray kalon, but he was determined to make this plan work.
This terrible, horrible idea.Clinging to the umbrella's handle with one paw, Pip used his other to push away from the shore and towards the other bank, lurching into the creek with a wet squelching sound. He waited for the umbrella to sink down into the brown, murky liquid pressing around it at all sides, but miraculously it bobbed just above the water line, and headed directly for the other side where the group of kalons waited, cheering and hollering at him from their bank. He careened towards them haphazardly and knocked into the dirt wall in front of them where he was quickly grabbed and hoisted from the water, umbrella and muddy stick in hand
...by a golden paw.
Pip decided then, that this had been a
fantastic idea.
