Show Name: Between the Moments
Barn Name: Palapeli “Life is a mosaic of pleasure and pain - grief is an interval between two moments of joy. Peace is the interlude between two wars. You have no rose without a thorn; the diligent picker will avoid the pricks and gather the flower. There is no bee without the sting; cleverness consists in gathering the honey nevertheless.”
It often seemed to Sirideáin that she had two stallions. Pala who was gentle and patient, who could be trusted with children or foals no matter how rambunctious they may be, and Peli who was a wrathful force of nature, who dominated on the battle field and was nearly impossible to rein back or away from the enemy.
And for this she was grateful.
What more could a Knight want than a twice-born steed? With twice the luck and two lives, they could take the risks others would not, leading the vanguard as they wheeled and charged. Never was she prouder than riding across the battlefield, back ramrod straight raising her even further above her comrades then Palapeli's intimidating height already did. Watching what was ahead of them through his two mismatched ears, one dark and one light. Life on one hand, death on the other. Even his hooves were this way, though here the balance was skewed more towards life and this was just as well. It was good to kill your enemies, it was better to protect and save your comrades and people.
It came with responsibilities of course. She had to be one of the very best. It would have been a great dishonour to the spirits who'd blessed them with one such as Palapeli if she did not strive to be the absolute best that she could be. A Heroic steed had to be ridden by a hero. Some days this knowledge was a crushing weight that she bore, but even in the darkest nights when silent tears stained her pillow and stifled sobs shook her chest, not even then would she have thought of given Palapeli away. not for a moment.
Whatever was coming, whatever the Gods sent a Twice-Born to face, Sirideáin would be ready, and Palapeli would carry her through it.
