Nothing.
Can you imagine what it looks like?
No, it's not black, not white. It's nothing.
No shape, color, no anything.
That is what complete and total blindness is.

I am Celaeno; The daughter of winters eye. I was born blind. I didn't completely realize it when I was a pup, only that something was wrong with me. I could never hunt or play as easily as the other pups, and I always heard whispers about how I was 'broken'. Through my juvenile ignorance, it barely brought me down. I was fortunate enough to have my father to guide me. He would describe to me the way that the stars 'looked', and what it was to be able to 'see'. As he told me about the wonderful pictures they created, I could hear the adoration in his voice. He would always tell me the story of how I got my name, and never tired of it. I had been named after a star in one of these pictures. The brightest; his favorite.

When my father was taken, I was exiled from the kingdom. The queen said that there wasn't room in this place for "dead weight" and she had the guards take me out deep into the forest and leave me.
My first week was agony. I spent most of it staying within a few yards of where they discarded me trying to feel my way around the forest floor. I lapped at mud to try and quench my thirst until it made me sick and caked into my fur. The following week I curled up writhing in pain against the base of a tree with a fever. Eventually, I dragged my frail starved body along the forest until I found a hollowed-out trunk where I collapsed and slept. I was lucky enough; if one could call it that, that my new 'home' had herbs that I could eat to prevent starvation and a small stream nearby that was just clean enough to prevent getting sick again.
This has been my home for the past year and I've explored it enough to be able to live. The thick tree cover in this part of the forest has kept my home dry and the nearby dying trees have given me the food I need to survive. But still my thoughts linger on my condition and I can't help but feel depressed and alone. Is this what my life shall remain as? I will lie in wait here for him. I lay awake at night listening to the sound of silence that reverberates throughout the forest until I drift off into the relief sleep brings...

I wake up to a loud screeching sound followed by a large thud as a shockwave passes through the ground. I jump to my feet and run out of my den to feel the warmth of day against my face and the sound of rustling leaves to my left. Whatever beasts have intruded upon my territory notice me and begin to 'bark' loudly at each other, seemingly aware of my presence. I quickly run towards the stream, barely managing to keep from falling on my face as I dart across and into the woods on the other side. I relax slightly as I feel a coolness on my face and end up run face first into the branch of a tree. I stumble as I taste blood, but continue to run In fear of the beasts that pursue me.
After a minute of jogging In silence, I hear the sound of a stampeding paws heading in my direction. I sprint as fast as I can away, praying to the gods that I don't run into another tree as a shot rings out in the forest, followed by a whizz as something lodges into the bark next to me. More shots follow, narrowly missing me as I try to flee. A sharp pain runs through my right shoulder as a long pointed object manages to lodge beneath my skin. I feel the blood drip and my muscles scream for me to stop, but my drenaline drove me forward. I run as fast as I can with a crippled leg for what feels like hours, bumping into several obstacles along the way before finally collapsing against a tree. I've escaped the last of my pursuers, just barely. Although I am alive, my 'home' is lost, and I; without a place to belong once again.

The air gets cool as night falls and the sound of crickets can be heard.
I move onward, cold snow between my toes. Each step forward helped the pain in my paw pads from running on harsh rocky terrain subside, but caused the pain in my shoulder to grow. I kept going until I felt free from the shrouds of darkness. Sudden warmth pulls through my fur and drags me from my pain, causing me to sit up. From the vast nothing; a single point into 'sight'.
As quickly as that point arrives, another joins it, followed yet by another- all shining; until my view is filled with points of varying sizes and intensities. I look around for the very first time in my life and 'see'.

The world, as pure as my father described...
Stars;
the jagged mountains;
the smooth crisp snow;
and the bright shining moon above.
I feel at peace.
Surrounding me.. "Pillars of white". In the moonlight, they seem to glow.
My father once spoke of this place, somewhere he would one day take me.
He had said it was far from where anyone would ever dare tread, and in it lies the very essence of winter
My father, he is winter.
If I'm going to find him, this is where I must begin.
A cool mist floats towards my eyes, glossing them over. My new found sight still bewildering me, I feel the urge to close them panicked that I may lose this feeling, but seem unable to.
Around me, everything suddenly goes back into nothingness, and in the center of my 'view' I see what must be done. Just as quickly as the scene played before me, it disappeared and I was back to relying on my other senses.
'Nothing' is unstable.
It is so uniform that the law of entropy takes over,
And the universe has no choice but to fill it with beauty.
I have to find my father... I must discover the secrets of this place.
