why are they in the forest?: [241/400]
Back when he was young, the forest was deemed a dangerous place. It was mentioned under hushed breaths and fearful glances, with kits being warned to stay as far away as they could. Very rarely did kalons venture in, and it was even rarer to see them return. Sage had no such fears, however. He'd been born strange and the forest had been his home since he was young. Both of his parents had been on the eccentric side, something that passed along to their son. They raised him in their same profession, making potions and medicines that attracted even the attention of the little village so terrified of the forest they resided in.
Sage was raised in much of the same manner. From his father he learned of brewing and from his mother he learned the plants. They were valuable lessons he still carries with him, even now that his parents have long since passed. He's an enigma to his little village but they certainly aren't shy when needing a cure for some sickness or injury. It would make sense for Sage to reject them after years of living in the dark, but he's just glad he gets company every so often. The blueberry muffins the baker provides are a plus as well.
The forest is his home, and Sage is much as a part of it as the trees rising high or the mushrooms growing beneath. He belongs here.

"Mommy, why does he look funny?" The young kit had been hushed, her mother quickly accepting the salve and quickly left. Sage had chuckled at the exchange, watching them hurry back off towards their village.
He knew he looked different. Had been acutely aware of it when he was young, in fact. Sage was a mess of tangled fur and smelled strongly of fallen leaves and bark; he knew he wasn't the handsomest kalon out there. Those things didn't bother him like they used to though. Life took on different meanings when you grew older.
A smile bloomed on his face at the thought. Growing old wasn't so bad, but the older he got, the more aware he became of what he would be leaving behind. Sage had no children; who would take care of the tipsy little village? Of all the newborn kits? The old and grey? His heart clenched in his chest, and Sage turned his gaze to the trees. Perhaps it was time to wander a bit, to see the world so fondly spoke of by travelers. The kit's words had sparked a sense of adventure within his heart. With a smile, Sage got to work.

Why are they in the forest?:
Ever since Beast as a kit he's always been very Self-consciousness about his looks and who others see his appearance. He has tired many different ways to change his appearance to make himself look more friendly but they all ended up failing and only making him fell worse about his looks. So he went to the woods and made himself a house where he lives alone too afraid he'll scare anyone he meets, though if he see's a lost kalon in his woods he will try and help them anyway he can be it getting them home, giving them a place to rest or just a hot meal. He may look a little scary but he's nothing but a big softy underneath who just wants some friends and love like everyone else.

why are they in the forest?: Deep in the forest, where Ukraine and Russia meet, lives Vitaly, an odd young Kalon who free roams and lives quite happily off of the land and his own built technology. He speaks no English and is native to Russia's forests. His parents also lived off of the land, and when they passed away, Vitaly had known no other life than the forest. Vitaly is virtually alone, other than the animals around him and it is rare for Vitaly to come into contact with other Kalons- so his interaction skills are low at best. Of course, Vitaly has the option to leave the forest and join modern society, but why leave his own perfect home behind for the woes of modern society?

Right as the sky darkens, and the sun drops below the horizon, Vitaly will go in search of a certain species of glowing mushrooms. From his many years with his parents in the wilderness, he knows which mushrooms to eat, and which ones to avoid- however, he came upon a new species of mushrooms one day, one that he had never seen before in his life. These beautiful mushrooms glowed in the night and produced a sweet, tangy smell. Vitaly knew he had to try these right away, and as if he were a child, plopped one in his mouth as if it were candy. As he chewed, he could feel his face contort into a smile. They almost tasted like every flavor of the rainbow. Vitaly only ate one mushroom that night, as he wasn't sure what the effects would be. However, that same night, Vitaly saw something he'd never forget. Aliens.

He looked up to the sky and saw an aircraft, one like he'd never seen before. He had seen his fair share of military aircraft, but this? this was nothing like any Russian aircraft he'd seen before. This craft had many bright blinking lights that shown down into the forest. Vitaly's heart skipped a beat as the light almost hit him. He ducked behind a tree and kept watching the aircraft hover in place, a separate blade on the ship rotating around the main ship. Vitaly could not believe his eyes, and he knew for sure that they had to be real. And just as quick as Vitaly had seen it, the aircraft darted off into the East. Vitaly was compelled to chase after it. He ran faster and faster, his head looking to the sky, watching the spaceship above him. As he passed by a small village, a couple of Kalons raised their heads to watch him run by, curious as to what he could be chasing- or running from. He could feel his lungs giving out but he had to keep going. One foot after another they chased farther and farther into a new set of woods, one that Vitaly hadn't roamed in years. Just as Vitaly looked down to see where he was going, his face connected with a large tree, stopping him right in his tracks and making the lights disappear.

The sun peered down through the tall pines and hit Vitaly's bruised and cut up face. His eyes slowly began to open as the wind rustled his large mane. His head pounded with miraculous force when he moved to his paws. Carefully, Vitaly avoided the village and the kalons that lived inside of it-- he knew they must have seen him taking his stroll through the woods, and they would want answers. As he arrived home, Vitaly took note of what happened, vowing to keep searching until he got answers.

A certain darkness fell over the kingdom on the day that was the most dreary of all. it was ominous and threatening, one that showed how the weary king felt. hie exceptionally green eyes were dull and came and went like the incoming tide, paying attention to what he wanted to, not what he needed to. today was a day of mourning, even the sky was crying.

nobody was more devastated than the king, for he had lost the only thing he had in his life. sure, he had gold and trinkets, but they belonged to the earth and the next generation. his partner was the only thing he had in his life that was his and his alone. they had given possession to each other in more ways than one, skin against skin and a ring on the third finger to match it. today, today the king lost his himself, buried in the ground next to his lover.

his soulmate had a beautiful resting place, one in the middle of the woods, right below a hollow oak that sprouted with the coming spring and shed in the late fall. in the strong, round trunk, there was a hole, one that was a home to some creature every year (this time it was a family of squirrels). In the bark, hallway down, there was a set of names, surrounded by a heart. it was a symbol of love, possession, and flowers usually sprouted around the tree, yet they were uprooted from their home that day, making space that was three feet across and six feet down.

the king stayed in the woods that day, dressed clad in dark purple. "don't dress in black when I'm gone. It's too miserable." flowers in his meaty hand, the king placed them upon the fresh grave, watering the earth with his own rain. there he sat at the marble stone, tracing his fingers across the engravings, feeling his soulmate's name, but not his touch, not his soul. the king wasn't ready for the woods to clam yet another one he loved, but he had no say in the matter, but it saddened him deeply. but, the day would come to end, and the king would still come to these weeping woods everyday, mourning his loss.

why are they in the forest?: Cal is an apothecary who sells natural medicine and serums for a living. They can be anything from itch relief to weight loss medicines. He gets his herbs for his practice from the forest near his home. His shop and his town are in a heavily forested mountain area. He makes the medicine himself.

why are they in the forest?: Moreli was in the forest because he was picking berries for a super secret pie! He didn't mean to scare anyone, no no, he just wanted to help people out! He knows the kalons in his town really really like berry pie, and he knows that nice berries grow in the forest so he wants to get to know them better and make some new friends! Oh, he's offering you some pie as well! Would you like some? He's really hoping you'll like it!
