"like your Nessie of the Loch and Ogopogo of the Okanagan, Naitaka is a mystery to the world of
Auwei. nobody truly knows how old the gal is, but legend says she's been around since the beginning.
there have been fleeting sightings in the waters of the Kirentha volcanic chain where the islands are
black as pitch and nothing really grows. it's been said she hides in the black sands of the beaches,
burrowing beneath to cool herself down as the islands and surrounding waters are incredibly hot and
humid. it's been told that she's a vicious creature of the deep as the barbed fins on her face, legs and
tail are highly venomous-- one poke of these barbs causes death, though none know if death comes
swiftly to the sufferer. this myth is wrong. Naitaka of the Kirentha islands is a highly misunderstood
creature, though due to this misunderstanding many go in search of her to hunt and not to observe.
good luck finding her among the black. let's hope you're not afraid of the dark!"

a look into her personality...
though legend says Naitaka is a vicious creature, this couldn't be further from the truth. yes, true to the fact that she has venomous barbs and looks rather intimidating in her own right, the girl is actually rather humble and kind. she's curious and has a thirst for knowledge, often times approaching other critters and sea creatures to admire and observe them-- though due to her intimidating appearance, others are more likely to run in the other direction than allow her to get too close. Naitaka is rather lonely, having never met another aquatic Viscet or any intelligent being to speak with. there is very little life on the island chain of Kirentha due to the heat and the ash that rains down most days. vegetation has a difficult time growing and aside from lizards and the occasional rodent and bird, there isn't much of anything. it is a very lonely existence for Naitaka, but she manages to get by without much negativity clouding her outlook on life. she is old, and wise, and as far as she's concerned the world is just a very large and very lonely place. she actually knows very little about the world beyond the Kirentha islands... and that's just fine by her.
relationships:
Oirbsen -- no bueno relationship, he don't like her one bit
Aki -- startles her by accident - mutual friendship/respect
Nerina -- friendship - nervous around her due to venom barbs
Kaori -- wip ( respect/general curiosity/possible friendship?)
Styx -- wip ( possible short story - upset over an accidental death )

murdered in the night
for the most part, janna doesn’t
remember what happened to her
when she was murdered on that
day. the iron details have left
her, but she does know that it was
a fairly random encounter. while
her mind is fuzzy, there have been
a few details she has managed to
iron out. she remembers that she
had been out, just taking a walk
in the chilly fall night, enjoying
the quiet as she was oft prone to
do. she did remember feeling
at ease, even, not anxious or
worried, and then she had heard
something that shehad thought at
first to just be a wild creature rust-
ling in the undergrowth. however,
she had been wrong in just
assuming what it was; fear had
sparked in her heart as the rust-
ling had grown louder and some-
thing jumped out at her; another
viscet. it had happened quick-
ly, and she hadn’t the time to re-
spond before the attack was over,
and her eyes had closed,
letting darkness wash over her.
when she awoke, finally, changed,
it was two months afterwards and
she was raised in the darkness of a
lunar eclipse. she had been so, so
confused, and in reality, she still is,
sometimes. that is when her old
story ended… and her new one began.♦
Risen
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Janna Terza had been wandering Eterna's lands for two centuries, twenty-seven years, four months, and two days.
And she was... tired. Oh, so tired. But she couldn't stop; she could never stop, never, for she was on a very, very important quest. She was what some could consider a necromancer. Her magic, vampiric in nature, just like her, could raise the dead as her thralls; at least, it could raise the dead body. The corpse━the carcass. Never the soul. Never the soul. The soul was something sacred, and Janna wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty to protect that sacred thing.
Her "occupation", of sorts, was simple in thought━to release souls, ghosts and the enslaved undead from their bonds here on the material plane. She dealt with these things in whatever way was the most conclusive for the lost soul; helping a vengeful revenant find their revenge, or setting a ghost free by burning their remains. She never did any of these things without consent, of course, but she did it for a very firm reason: immortality, as being undead often pertained, was horrible. It was a terrible, terrible curse, and she knew it from experience.
You see, Janna Fawkes Terza was not always a vampire. Two centuries ago, she was murdered in the shadows of the night, hidden from civilization and all but her family. Her father, a viscet whom she was incredibly close to, was the one to find her mangled body, hidden among the undergrowth and barely visible. He had sobbed loudly in grief over her body, kneeling down with her lifeless form below him, and it was in this manner that, for hours, that he grieved the loss of his only daughter. It took a lot of energy for him to finally take her and to present the unfortunate news to the rest of her family━the only one else, her mother. While not as torn as her father, her mother had, too, very much loved her, and grieved for her just the same, until finally her father came up with an idea, one he did not share with his mate, but one he completed in secret.
She did not rise immediately. No; she did not return but for four months, when the land where her body had been buried was darkened in the noon by the eclipse. That is when she felt the breath of life once more, but she did not want it. She had died; she had seen the Hereafter. She didn't want to come back.
But come back she did, and changed irreversibly, immortal and undead. It was a curse, she decided, especially after she experienced one of the first great hardships of eternity. Only two years after reuniting with her family, her father died while traveling. Her mother, frail with illness, fared not much longer before she, too, fell into the silent grasp of death. Janna was alone, and she felt so, so unfulfilled. So unnatural. So cursed.
It was while she cleaned her family's home, soon to be abandoned, though not forgotten, that she began to think of her life, what it would be. She could rid herself of this blasted curse, perhaps; she could search for a cure. But... there was also something that, after the first day, crossed her mind.
She could help others, maybe.
She wasn't the only one like this; drawn into the curse of immortality by the experiments and toying of magics by mortals. Perhaps she could help, she thought, help to set things right. She could lead those that still could back to the Hereafter; or, at the very least, she could try.
With her newfound curse, bestowed only out of love, she vowed to help. To help as much as possible for her paws to do.

A Single Companion
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
For the most part, Janna traveled alone. She did not want to get close with the short-lived mortals, because she knew time, for her, would seem to pass faster and faster. Her only option in companions were the longer-lived races of Eterna, which she was hesitant even about them, and those like her: those that had this same misfortune as she, with the same curse, and one that did not mind what she was. This would be a feat in and of itself, of course.
That being said, she didn't really want to truly befriend those that she helped; she was very much afraid of the hardship that would come of losing friends. It was probably her least favorite part of the quest she had decided to undertake. Besides that, spirits could rarely ever move far from their remains or the item they were bound to, so it would be difficult, anyways.
Through the centuries she had been alive, for the most part, she had done her job well. Sometimes, it had been far harder than others, and other times the dead had simply refused her help. When they refused her help, she always felt... guilty. Like it was her fault that they had decided to be against her, or to continue walking Eterna's surface. She tried never to press too hard, but she often did, even to other's irritation; she was afraid that one day they may regret that choice. Though, to be fair, if they did... she'd probably still be around to help.
There was one spirit, though, that Janna had befriended, and one she didn't feel guilty about not helping him to the Hereafter. His name was Sebastian, and he had died only some forty years prior to her first meeting with him. He was a lonely thing, that winter spirit, but he seemed to blend in to his surroundings. He was cold to just stand around, not to mention the snow and near constant snowfall of his "home". Sebastian had first mistaken her for a lost creature, and he had greeted her, gently and carefully, warning her that nothing was to fear; he had asked her, in a gentle, almost parental way, calming and comforting, if she was lost. Her answer was, of course, no; she had heard of rumors of his presence in these hidden-away parts. He didn't seem confused by the statement. Rather, he only gave a small smile and had asked her in that same calming tone of voice why she had come there to see, as he put it, “little ol' me”?
She has told him of what she did, and he listened attentively, his pale eyes centered on her and his slightly see-through ears pricked up, listening at every word she spoke. When she finished telling him why she was here, he watched her for a few seconds, looking almost like a foggy dream. And then he had smiled and looked down, shaking his head.
“No,” he had told her plainly. “I'm sorry, my friend. I have to stay.”
At first, Janna was disheartened; she couldn't imagine why anyone would want to live in this sort of life. Here in the barren cold, where no one dared venture unless they had to. At least she, in her loneliness, could be around others, even if but for a short while. So she asked a question not unexpected: “Why?” And he explained. He had gone out into the cold, searching for a lost friend, when a blizzard hit. Unaccustomed to traveling in such extreme conditions, Sebastian's body could not stand up against them for long, and with that, he perished, but did not find himself dead. Instead, he woke up here, in the barren wastes of the winter cold, where he only ever did manifest in said wintertime, sometimes early fall or late spring if the snows prevailed enough. And he had also explained that, much like her, he had made a vow to save others. No one should have to face the pitiful death he had, curled up and clutching his clothes close for warmth. He vowed to lead anyone out who got lost in these winter lands, even if it would only be a small thing.
Janna understood, in a way. That did not mean she did not press him; she was far too stubborn to let go, until finally she got the hint. His decision was frozen in place; he was not leaving.
Accepting this answer, Janna promised herself to visit Sebastian again. Perhaps they could be companions, somewhat, friends brought together by vows and this terrible thing that was un-death.
Before she left, she had one more question to ask of him.
“Did you ever find your friend?”
Sebastian gazed at her, and his smile slowly dropped, and when he exhaled she felt the cold winter's breath running through her fur. There was a long pause and Janna knew Sebastian's answer before he even spoke, and soon after the answer, his form was blown away, as if by the icy wind.
“No.”

Personality
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Janna is very opinionated and very set in her ways. She is fairly stubborn, and sometimes can push a little too hard if she’s trying to, in her eyes, help, even if makes the other party uncomfortable. She’s trying to get a little over this, though, especially after meeting and becoming friends with Sebastian. That doesn’t at all mean it’s been cured, of course, and it’s something she’s still very bad at accidentally doing.
That being said, Janna means well. She is very determined and headstrong, and she doesn’t let failure get her down, even when it should. She tends to be rather reserved and anti-social; she does not like being around others if she can help it, primarily due to her incredibly negative outlook on her “curse”. She tends to be very pessimistic, except when she is trying to convince others to be at rest; she tries her best to be persuasive and optimistic in these cases.

yuuya is a very well rounded viscet. throughout his life he has lived in an otherwise hostile, and female-dominated society due to his siren heritage. hes one of the only male-born sirens within their pod that lives within a secluded island called Tuladral so there is often a lot of stress pushed onto him to be perfect. due to this, he is often very willing to do anything someone says. yuuya has an extremely hard time saying no to someone and is not one of break the rules. in which if he does, it'd be because something has somehow drastically changed his mind. even though yuuya is obedient to orders, he definitely has his own independence. yuuya loves to explore, its one of his favorite things in the word to do. it's like his little quiet place. hunting for sea-shells. scoping out the native wildlife. watching the milkyway reflect over the deep dark ocean. he loves it. it inspires him to create things. he sees beauty in his otherwise dark world. the beauty of how a clownfish co-exists with the anemone. the beauty of a mother seal caring for her pup. he creates works of art. its his secret passion. not many know of it, only those of his pod that sometimes stumble upon his creations of shells, seaweeds, rocks, and bones. though they still don't know that he created those masterpieces. in fact they have one of his pieces in the center of their main cave-home that a patrol found one day and took it back to the cave to put on display. none the less yuuya does have an incredible downfall though. it comes when he is forced to choose sides. this is because he is very indecisive and sometimes he forget that he even has his own opinion.
yuuya wasn't one to go against orders. it was a known fact that those who did go against the rules were often exiled or made worse. but that didn't seem to scare him all that much when it came to jorel. that man was the death of him. figuratively and literally. for one it was against the laws of the siren community to nurture or help viscets who were not sirens. two. it was against the rules to fall in love with one of them. and three. it was against the rules to hide them away from the others. and yuuya broke all 3 of those rules that fateful night. within his pod, he was known as "libra" or "li". the viscets in his pod has alias names named after the zodiac signs. their alias were often chosen after when they were born. in which yuuya just happened to be a libra. they were supposed to wreck a ship. it had been fishing far to near their little safe-haven cove and his pod was set out to run them into the rocks. it was yuuya's least favorite part of being a siren. he hated hurting others. it just wasn't who he was. so when they lured the ship-men into the rocks and his pod left after they thought they had dealt with the crew-members, yuuya swam as fast as he could to the capsized vessel. thats when his world was flipped over like the ship he just capsized.
a male viscet was floating within the water. he was struggling just beneath the surface. he back right leg caught within the sinking boat that was pulling him down. his head was just below the surface as he pitifully struggled to breach the waves and suck in the salty ocean air. yuuya's heart dropped as the male slowly started to struggle less and less. five seconds. yuuya rushed over to the man. seven seconds. yuuya struggled with the beam to no avale. 10 seconds. yuuya captured the male's lips in his and forced air into his lungs. his eyes shot open in panic. twelve seconds. yuuya was then able to free the man from his watery grave. fifteen seconds. they breached the surface water.
the male coughed up water as best as he could though he still struggled to swim. with a swift flick of his tail, yuuya pushed them to the nearby rocks where they capsized the man's boat. "y-you... s-aved.-d.. my.. li-fe.." the man sputtered once reaching dry land. "w-hy...?" yuuya sat motionless watching the man for a moment. cat got your tongue? he mentally whispered to himself before managing to speak. "I couldn't let you die... my pod may be ruthless but i see other ways. It was my dream to always coexist with normal viscets... I... I have given so many others their death-bed in these reefs i just couldn't do it again..." he spoke in a soft whisper. "well.-l... thank.. you-u..?" "libr-... actually... call me yuuya." making a last minute decision to not lie to the man. "yuuya... what a lovely name... it roles off the tounge-e... im j-jorel." "I can say the same about your name.. jorel."
