Soft, classical music filled the casino.
Men and women dressed to the nines flitted between the tables, champagne in hand.
Among them was a gorgeous, tan woman with dark hair and a perfect dress. She flashed a beautiful smile, placing her hand on a man's shoulder. The man seemed absolutely enthralled, and she seemed equally so. It seemed there was genuine interest.
But only on the surface.
She laughed at her companion's joke, smiling over his shoulder and tilting her head in time with the raising of an eyebrow. "One moment, Johnny," she gave another comforting touch before making her way to the back to meet the person she had signaled.
"Talia! Brilliant!!" the redhead praised, embracing the woman warmly.
"I hate men. Next time, you put on the dress and deal with them, Loki," she mumbled, brushing a strand of hair from her face and dropping an extravagant watch and car keys in the other's hand. The two exited to the parking lot through the back, walking quickly around the lot.
"It's a corvette."
"Do you know how many of those dopes drive corvettes?"
"Well, excuse me for trying," she snapped, snatching the keys from their hands, only to have them make grabbing gestures at the keys again. "Loki, don't press the pani-"
Loud wailing filled the lot, causing people to spill out of the casino to see what was happening and the pair to break out in a run. Talia quickly started the car, taking a moment to remind Loki to buckle before speeding off. She caught her previous companion's eye and gave her only real smile of the night, a truly radiant and happy smile.
---
Loki was sprawled on a bed, flitting a paper between their fingers. Talia sat next to them, snatching the paper from their hands and unfolding it delicately.
"Snatching is very rude," they wagged their finger at her, but made no attempt to reclaim the lost piece of paper.
"Olga Watts, George Hellinski, Porter Porks, Happy Stones... Names... Why?"
"I've found my new calling; I'm a stalker now."
Talia rolled her eyes aggressively before moving to her own bed. "I'm going to sleep now, Stalker. Turn out the lights," she mumbled, still half-annoyed at his answer.
---
"Local artistic talent Olga Watts found dead last week... now appears an accident... tragically slipping in her own paint and falling to her death...
...businessman and multimillionaire George Hellinski found in hotel suit last night... dead from apparent gunshot to temple... Police investigating as suicide...
...Porter Porks found dead in butcher shop this morning..."
Talia shot up from her bed, throwing back her covers in search of the slip of paper she had fallen asleep holding. She found it and read the names again, confirming that the names she had just heard on the news were indeed from the list.
"LOKI, UP!!"
"Not a dog," they shot back, reluctantly sitting up in bed, rubbing their still closed eyes and groaning in Talia's general direction.
She threw a pillow at them, which got an angry growl in response, "This is a hit list."
They looked at her with a blank stare before laying back down, obviously unconvinced and unamused. She threw her other pillow, and shoved the open list in their face. "Read the news scrolling at the bottom of the screen, three of the people on the list found dead!"
Talia nudged Loki, who sat up with a glare. The glare quickly disappeared with the realization she could be right.
"It's from the car we stole last night."
"We've got to warn them, Loki," she whispered. They looked at her skeptically, but ultimately agreed. And so, the pair were on their way off to warn someone called "Happy Stones," which Talia debated skipping just to rid the world of such an unfortunate name.
Halfway through warning the names on the list, the two noticed a few ominous-looking fellows following them in an even more ominous-looking van.
Talia nudged Loki and discreetly motioned towards the group, clearly beginning to frighten as she asked what they should do. "Well hell, guess it's time to visit Florence after all," Loki gave a small smile before suggesting an actual solution, "We've got to lose them. That's all."
"Oh is that all?" Talia snapped.
Several evasive maneuvers and hiding spots later, the pair seemed to have lost the group. They sat in an abandoned, condemned apartment with a pizza between them.
After all, it was important to keep your strength up in dangerous situations.

( sunny weather & a vague sense of nostalgia ;
they finally found the other part of themselves.
almost. but forget the family shuns, because their voices mix like honey & words are tastefully chosen )
. . .
he doesn't want to remember what it was like before a boy named aelius taught him all the things he knew now.
they met in a thicket, bored teenagers & summer warmth & everything.
like they'd met in a parallel universe already.
" hey, " his voice, it's on edge & for some reason, waiting for a response, anything.
( as if it were all to slip away if there was nothing )
" hello, " aelius muttered ( ━& suddenly, the nausea stopped ), distracted, distanced, looking into the river.
he invited himself over to the river, peering in like aelius was at the carefree fish.
" fish, they move slowly but they're hard to catch . . . "
" who are you ? " aelius didn't know him, so why were they speaking ?
" . . . caelestis. it means of the sky."
" well, i'm aelius. i guess i am the sun . . . "
caelestis quickly forgot the introduction. he decided it wasn't important.
he was unsheathing claws, attempting to catch a fish.
with success, he smiled at aelius, " look ! " & caelestis was so happy
to be speaking to someone again, that he fell into the river letting go of the fish.
" if you stay there you'll get sick ! "
laughing, aelius helped him out of the river. & aelius paused, like he'd came to a realization. " hey, how did you do that ? "
. . .
it starts with a dreamer & ends with one,
except the dreamer's dream wasn't such a dream after all. ( he met the sun )
but his dream started to fade like a fever dream, spiraling out of control.
( caelestis was in an army,
which was his family. this family forbid caelestis interacted with anyone else but them,
though caelestis, the boy of the sky waiting to lift the sun, decided the idea was nonsensical ━like his own mind & ideas )
falling ! falling !
" caelestis ! "
caelestis occupied himself leaning against the glass of a window. rain poured at the start of a storm.
there was a peacefulness in his mind ━but there was no peace.
" yes ? . . . " his tone was tranquil, more quiet than usual. he wasn't waiting for the yelling, but he knew it would happen. soon, the army was in outrage. " caelestis messed up ! " " what now ? "
the boy was solemn, anxiety building, was in awe of the storm inside & outside ━now breaking through the walls, tearing them down.
caelestis danced through the war, slowly. the rain he watched so serenely for the first time poured down his face. where is aelius ?
the shouting continued.
caelestis' mind lingered for too long, & he stood in the forest attempting to make sense of the thoughts that gave him the feeling everything around him was just television static, until he couldn't remember what was happening.
like two salmon swimming in the river, they climb up the waterfall but only one makes it, & the crashing of water, the only thing left.
━i'm a walking fool of myself.
( in rain, the two families fought for justice. the sun & the sky, separated for a battle they couldn't understand )

prompt; senior prank week. his least favorite time of the school year - not that the rest of it was any fun. remi huffed and blew the hair out of his eyes as he crammed his black headphones in his ears and blasted his favorite playlist, preparing for his fearsome trek down the main hall, where most of the pranks happened. when the bell rang, he sprang from his seat and darted into the hallway. normally he would go listen to his music and slide into class just in time, but today he wanted to get out of these hallways as quickly as possible. an airhorn sounded off in his ear, making him jump, and he cursed at the prankster as they ran off. when he spotted winston, he perked up. everybody liked to play pranks on the weird emo kid, but nobody would wanna mess with the cool kid, right? "hey winny!" he called, and the redhead shot him a glare, although remi know he wasn't really that mad. "come on, dude, just call me by my real name," he persisted. "you've got it winster," remi joked, pulling a headphone out of his ear and lowering the volume on his playlist. "you call me one more nickname and i'll start calling you remington. ya'know, these pranks kinda suck," winston commented, and remi found himself surprised - he thought winston loved senior pranks! "yeah, i totally feel the same-" he began to respond, before he noticed winston pulling out a can of spray paint. "what the heck do you think you're doing?" he exclaimed in a panic as winston grabbed his arm and dragged him to the back of the school. he groaned as winston shook the can. "dude, we'll get caught!" winston ignored him, beginning to write. unfortunately, remi could tell winston's handwriting by a mile - a lot of people could, actually. it was surprisingly elegant but small, and...well, it was hard to describe, but it was the kind of handwriting that you could remember who it belonged to. "done!" winston proudly proclaimed, admiring his handiwork. panicking, remi began to rub it off with his hoodie. "dude, what the heck, what are you doing?" winston snapped, pushing him away. "you're gonna get us in trouble! we need to get rid of it!" winston shook his can and began to re-paint. "you need to chill out," he muttered under his breath. tears burst into remi's eyes, surprising himself. sure, he was worried about getting in trouble, but moreso this was reminding himself of all the problems in their friendship. "you just want be to be cool like you! well you should just accept that i'm not. just ditch me if you're so embarrassed to be seen with the emo kid," remi growled, trying not to cry in front of his friend. a tear still slipped past and trailed down his cheek, and remi rubbed at it, accidentally rubbing his eyeliner. as he saw the smudged makeup on his hand, a fresh wave of anger washed over him. "and why do you even care about your reputation? none of these people are ever going to remember you anyways!" surprised by remi's outburst and hurt by his words, winston dropped the spray can, letting it roll until it hit the brick wall of the school. "you don't understand," he huffed, turning away before remi could see the pain on his face and running off. [ 569 // 600 ]
