Hope's Personality
Nice • Protective • Secretive • Hopeful
Hope is a nice gal, unlike like Keme. She always seems willing to lead a helping paw and protect anyone from her brother's wrath. This is her fatal flaw as this is easily controlled by others. She can be a bit secretive as she doesn't like it when everyone is right up in her business. Hope is very protective. She has to do this to stop her friends or others from facing her brother's wrath. She is always hopeful of the future. She believes that hope is the secret for success.

Friendship is Soiled by Jealousy's Greed, or, Why Communication is Key
Perhaps the closeness was what had driven them apart. Perhaps the fear driven by Elliot himself was what had done it. No matter what the exact source and reason was, it had driven light and dark apart, and neither shaken party was quite sure why. The pastel Kalon and the darker had been the best of friends, after all! Ever since their childhood, they grew and thrived together - hours of play and pretend between them, their bond only grew stronger. They met when they were only teeny tiny kits, parents relieved to see they had found another with the same kind of double-headed twin. This way, the parents were happy to know, neither child would grow up alone - they would both have a friend who understood. And understood they did! Hours and hours of conversations growing up grew from toys and games, to what their place would be in the world, to what they would be perceived as by others. The latter conversation always caused the two Kalons to stop, blink away the suddenly darker thoughts, and then give a light laugh and begin to play again. For years, they spent nearly every waking morning together...

That was, until Elliot grew jealous. Very jealous. More jealous for attention than he had ever been through the many years they had known the other Kalon.

The problem with having an extra head, as both Kalons knew and easily discovered from birth, was that each had it's own separate thoughts and emotions. Both could possess such vastly different opinions and personalities that it some did not understand how they could share the same life at all! Besides, Elliot knew nought of Fara's mind, and Fara knew nought of Elliot's. Despite what their other classmates and friends teased, Fara and Elliot could not read each other's thoughts - they pick up on the other's emotions, simply from knowing them well enough, but clear telepathy like in the movie was never possible and never would be. This, of course, led to many a disagreement. Elliot would not share what he thought, and would only later grumble at Fara for not understanding what he wanted. Fara would believe Elliot was thinking something rude of her, and would become self-conscious and snarky; however, no misunderstanding of theirs could have ever amounted to the one that drove the closest of friends apart.

Elliot was young and jealous and craving attention from his other half. Being the quieter of the two heads, Elliot was never the one to get much attention - because of this, he craved the approval and praise of his sister. He craved her company, and her kind words, and the fact that she was and always would be there for him. Fara, however, had always been the social butterfly. All throughout their childhood, she and their pastel friend would grow even closer than Elliot ever would, sometimes sharing conversations and giggles without him. He had always become the fourth wheel - granted, he had done that to himself over the years, but it still stung quite a bit. Fara grew so close to their dear friend as every year passed, and was drifting farther from Elliot. The two were physically inseparable, and yet Elliot had made himself believe that the other Kalon had driven them as far apart as east and west. As Fara and their friend grew closer and happier, Elliot's silent resentment grew.

It was night. A deep, dark night. A sleepover had been arranged like they had been many times before, and the two Kalons had spent the night giggling over silly movies and baking plenty of delicious treats. The night had been spent in joyful jubilation - not for any particular event, but for youth and for life and for the joys that came with every new day. As the night grew older, however, the young Kalons grew ever sleepier. Eyes barely able to stay open, and yawns revealing tiny needle like fangs, the two decided that it was certainly time for bed. Heading up to the blanket nest that the two had accompanied since their very first sleepover (and the nest with which new blankets were always being added), the two curled up close together. Fara, of course, nestled closest to their friend, and it wasn't long before she had completely given in to sleep. Elliot and the pastel friend, however, were still able to keep their sleepy eyes open. Making sure to be much more awake and alert, Elliot leaned forward and commenced with his plan, "Hello?" their friend looked up at him, two sets of eyes shining in the dark. Elliot continued, "I didn't want to tell you when Fara was awake - I mean, she would have denied all of this. It's best if I just tell you now. So, I know a lot more about Fara's thoughts than you do - sibling telepathy, y'know?" he lied, "And I just thought it would be fair to warn you that Fara is playing you like a violin. She only likes you guys because you bring over food, and because our parents want her to like you. It's been an act for years, and I just felt far too guilty to keep it a secret any longer. She's real sick of you, and it might be best if you leave,"

The shock on the other's faces told Elliot he had chosen his long rehearsed words well.

"If you go now, I'm sure I can talk to her and try to patch things up. You guys aren't bad at all, and it's definitely not fair that she hates you so much. I'll give you a call? Tell you if you can come back?" Elliot watched as the light colored Kalon rose to their feet, ears pinned back flat against their heads and eyes wide with shock. Had they not been the closest of friends? Especially with Fara, they had shared snacks and secrets and everything in between. They had even trusted her with their darkest secrets and fears. Then again, they knew Elliot as well - well enough to know that he would never, ever lie to them... right? Holding back tears and nodding, they hurried off, making sure to be quiet so as not to wake Fara and get Elliot in trouble.

Elliot smiled - a cold, triumphant smile. Elliot rightfully deserved Fara's affections and attentions! Besides, their friend had never cared about him. They were a bad example, anyhow..! The closer it got to morning, the more guilty Elliot became; however, he never became guilty enough to stop thinking of good excuses and justifying what he had done. Even when Fara awoke the next morning, devastated and teary eyed to see that their best friend had left so early in the morning, Elliot stuck with his lie. It hurt him to see Fara sniffle and cry, but it hurt him more to feel ignored and excluded. It didn't take much to convince Fara that their dear friend had dashed off in the early morning, despite her arguments that they would never, in a million years, ever do that. Although absolutely heartbroken and saddened, Elliot knew exactly how to care for a sad Fara, and chose new words this time that would bring healing instead of further destruction. Elliot had successfully sabotaged a best friendship that had lasted for years, and wormed his way back into first place. They would heal, after all, Elliot assured Fara, and would find plenty of new best friends - ones that would stay true and loyal and never run off. Surely there were kinder, more loyal ones! With tear filled eyes and a heavy heart, Fara accepted the lie as best as she could. Even when a few months passed, however, the movies and blanket nests Fara had once enjoyed now only brought painful reminders of the best friend she had lost.

It was one year later, on the precise date that the close friendship had been abruptly ended. Just a little past lunch, when Fara and Elliot were washing their dishes and putting them away, their was a knock on the door. Wait... not one knock, like the normal friends or relatives that visited, but two very in sync knocks. Without taking a moment to consult Elliot, Fara raced to the door and threw it open.

There, in the doorway, was their long lost friend.

Both were back in tears again, Fara bringing them inside and sitting with them in the quiet of the living room, "W-why did you leave?" she asked, voice small and quivering. After all, as a child, she never quite understood why someone so close would leave so soon. Although she healed on the outside, it was a question that had left her plagued for years. Her friend blinked, wide eyed, before answering,

"Elliot told us that night that you hated us. He told us that we were only friends because we had to be, and we were stupid enough to remember it," they answered, turning to give Elliot a light glare, "We came back to apologize for believing something like that before asking you about it directly," At this point, Elliot had made himself as small as possible, fearful of what would become of him now that his terrible crime was exposed. The room was silent, before Fara spoke. Her voice was soft and melodic, full of gentle understanding and slight anger,

"I promise you that I would never hate you," she assured her friend, moving to press her nose lovingly against the two others. Their friendship was slowly, surely going to be restored, and Fara was content knowing that the biggest sadness was now fixed. Turning to look at Elliot, however, she narrowed her eyes, "And why would you do that?" Elliot gave no answer, shuffling his paw and letting his gaze drift to the floor, "Tell me..!"

"FIne!" Elliot squeaked, eyes squeezed shut so as not to see how angry his sister was. Even now, stronger than it had been in the past year, he realized how kind their friend had been to him too. They had always tried to include him in all that they did, even adjusting their schedule to fit in things he would enjoy as well. They had been kind to him, and they had simply expressed their love towards him in a different way than they had to his sister. It was a new concept and perspective that made him feel horrible and icky, "I'm sorry, I really am..! I thought Fara liked your company more - I got lonely, and I felt like I wasn't good enough, a-and, I just wanted some kind of attention," he sighed. Silence, again, and he feared that it was just the calm before the storm.

"Well, why didn't you just say something, then?" all three voices chimed. Elliot looked up, and it was finally his turn to be wide eyed.
Their friend spoke now, "Honestly, you could have just mentioned something, even just to Fara. She talked about you a whole ton,
but you never seemed to want to talk with us. We thought you were the one who didn't like us,"

The rest of the evening was spent with sniffling and apologies, and even more importantly, a heavy veil of forgiveness. Their close friendship had not only been repaired, but grew even stronger. That night, all of them stayed up, catching up on the past year and what the other was doing. From then on, the sleepovers and tea parties and even bookstore visits did nought but increase, and their friendship grew closer by the day.

"What are some activites you enjoy doing together?"

Fara: We like to draw!
Elliot: Well... Fara likes to draw. I just help.
Fara: Here's something we drew this morning!


"Do you have a favorite food? A favorite drink?"
Elliot: Fara likes fruit-
Fara: And Elliot likes candies! All kinds of candies!
Elliot: We don't always like the same things, but Fara's really cool about letting me sneak in lots of sugar when our parents aren't looking, haha!
Fara: As for drinks, we really love tea! And sometimes coffee - Elliot doesn't like it too much. He says it makes our stomach feel all gross. I mostly disagree.

Who are some of your other friends? Other than the best friend you mentioned?
Fara: Oh, we really like Addy! His real name is Adamik, but we just call 'im Addy. He doesn't talk at all, but he's still lots of fun~!
Elliot: He and I like to read together - he's really nice! Oh, and don't forget Bennet, Fara. We don't see her too often, since she's always travelling, but she still stays in touch.
Fara: Bennet is always sending us cool pictures of where she's at, and even sends us back neat trinkets, if we're lucky!

Do you guys have any fears or phobias?
Fara: Oh, I'm not too fond of centipedes..! They have far too many legs!
Elliot: Fara... they're not that scary, you know..?
Fara: Nothing in this world should have 100 legs, Elliot. N o t h i n g.

Left paw, right paw. Left paw, right paw. Fara and Elliot stepped deeper into the forest, nothing but two sets of eyes shimmering in the pale moonlight. Looking up, they saw that despite the darkness, the treetops were a deep emerald - the shimmering of light against them gave the impression that the dark leaves housed faeries. Fara couldn't help but shudder, causing Elliot to swivel his ears when he felt it, "Is everything alright? It'll be fine, we've planned this for months," he answered, voice soft and stern... and yet... and yet there was a hint of fear. Just a slight tremor. Was Elliot as frightened as Fara was? They continued on without another word, tiny paws silent atop the soft grasses of spring. Luckily there were not many leaves to cause noises. After they had walked quite a ways, they finally stopped. Fara was eager to sit down, nearly dragging Elliot down with her. This was enough walking in the dark! She glanced at Elliot, eyes narrowing,
"You said we would be there in, like, half an hour," she spoke, a light growl to her tone, "Mama will destroy us if we're not home when she wakes up,"
"Hush!" Elliot replied, "It's fine to disappoint Mother every now and again, especially for something like this..!" his books couldn't have lied! He knew what they were hunting for, and he was positive that it was the perfect weather for it. Standing up, he neared the edge of the small woodland pond they had wandered upon. The top was covered almost completely with slimy green algae,
the water that could be seen was a murky brown. It was water that no living creature would ever live in, or drink of. Elliot crept forward however, lowering his nose to the shimmering surface as Fara pulled her own head back as far as she could.
"That's gross, Elli-"
"Sh! It'll hear you, we gotta be quiet," Fara begrudgingly obeyed her brother, and was soon watching the water with curiosity.
She had heard stories before of the creature Elliot was hunting - a kelpie, he had taught her. It was a creature of definite evil,
and infinite trickery. It was capable of tricking even the cleverest Kalon into drowning in the dirty depths of ponds. Soon leaning in closer herself, Fara found that the tension around them could be cut with a knife. They were waiting, now, and Fara wasn't quite sure if she wanted Elliot to find his kelpie anymore.
Suddenly, like a flash of lightening, something shot out of the water. Elliot stumbled back as Fara let out a yell, the two struggling to work together once more to get up and run. Stumbling and tripping, they eventually got to their paws and galloped as fast as they could, yelling and hollering for the kelpie to go away.
Meanwhile, the "kelpie", sat quietly at the edge of the pond, giving another ribbit. Who knew a frog could have such an effect?
