Describe what went wrong with their Valentines Day (max. 200 words)

Valentine's day had always seemed pointless and silly to Ai until he met the
love of his life. He was more than excited to spend their first valentines
day together, to wake up next to them was more than a dream come true.
However when Ai woke up, it wasn't too the smell of fresh breakfast or a
bouquet of roses, it was to the harsh ringing of an alarm clock and an
empty bed. Sitting up, he looked around the room confused, where were
they? Reaching for his phone he checked the time.
- 9:31, Tuesday, Feb. 14
Ai pursed his lips, it was valentine's day after all.Tapping, he opened messages.
fingers flying over the keyboard.
-Mornin, just woke up, where are you? :')

- Did you forget what today is?
- VDAY right? how could I forget with the reminders
everywhere i turn

Ai felt his heart sting a little, did they think that this didn't matter to him?
This day was about love, they did love him, right?

"Okay lemme get this straight. You're going to dine with him because it would make a cuter story?!"

"Well, you stood me up and so did his date. It's a classic love story."

"Do you know the day I've been having?? I had to work a thirteen hour shift on my 'day off'. I dropped my phone into the toilet so I couldn't contact you saying I'd be late. Then, I went home to get ready for this date as fast as I could and some guy made me fall and I had to go home and change, forgetting the chocolate and the flowers that I got you. Now, you're saying you're gonna have dinner with this guy?? Whatever, you're gonna get me two slices of cheesecake and put it on your bill, since you replaced me that easily."

Roman went home that night, bitter, his markings glowing. "Not-so-happy valentines to me," he said with a sigh, soothing his feelings with the free cheesecake and the chocolates he bought for his date. If he was offered to change anything about the day, he would shrug, sigh, and say:

"I just wish I bought a bigger box of chocolate."

Elliot sighed in relief as he clicked the mouse. He had been searching the web for the perfect gift for his crush. He finally found it, a plush penguin that held a heart, it saying 'Go out with me?' He hadn't the courage to outright as them but he thought he could do it like this and it would be cute.

-2 days later-

Elliot grabbed the box that had been delivered the day before and walked towards the cafe he was meeting his crush at. He was nervous, but he was confident in his plan that he smiled at them when they greeted one another. He blushed and stammered a bit when he gave them the gift. But only looked on in horror as they pulled the penguin out of the box and the heart it held was saying 'Be friends?'. He was so embarrassed, they had sent the wrong one! He stammered an apology and an excuse before hiding behind his menu. Why did that have to happen today?!

In his youth he rued the sickening pink and red that infected his town this time of year. Everywhere he looked there were happy couples, married parents, loving families, and everything catering to them. He found it obnoxiously overplayed to say the least. As he grew older, maturing past his teenage angst, he began to have romantic feelings towards another. The more they got to know each other the faster Ezra's heart would pound in his presence. They began to date, becoming an inseparable pair.

After five steady years of serious dating he decided to plan a proposal. It took months of thinking, consultations, and phone calls to various stores to get all that he needed. Finally he was prepared for their big moment. He took his partner out to dine at a high class restaurant on the far side of the city. Flower petals were scattered across their table that was lit gorgeously with a pair of candles. After dessert had been served Ezra moved aside before his lover, dropping to one knee.

The instant change on his boyfriend's face was of unbridled horror.

what went wrong? rivers had always dreamt of celebrating valentines day with a
special sweetheart; the idea of love had always held a special spot in his heart.
this year, the young kalon had finally found someone he clicked with, and was
determined to make it the perfect evening. the day of valentines day, rivers had
planned a special dinner at home, accompanied by lit candles lining every flat
surface in his home. his date and himself were meant to meet at his home at 5pm,
an hour after rivers got off of work that evening. as he approached his home that
evening, the kalon felt a strange sense of dread overcome him, quickly brushing it
off for the sake of the mood. however, when he made it to his apartment complex,
he found the building engulfed in flames. shocked out of his breath, he did not move
until he heard the words "theres someone still inside!" forcing himself to move,
rivers ran into the building, heat surrounding him. calling out to his lover, he wond-
ered through the fire, until a beam fell in front of him, sending a cascade of ashes

"Picking up my date for the dance."
"Ha! As if. She's my date."
