Chmarina holds her beauty very close to her. She beloved her shine is a gift, that she earned her shine. When she was young with all of her floof and fuzz and being a kid she never paid much attention to herself. What she looked like or where she went. Until one day while playing in the mud and muck of her river near her home she found a tiny little fish. It was so small and as she looked on she noticed two more on up ahead with their mother. The tiny fish in her paws was stuck in the mud and it's mother did not notice it's missing child. So Chmarina quickly jumped into action! Scooped up the tiny fish and plopped it in front of its mother. The mother swam around it's child once before continuing on their way. The next day Chmarina felt compelled to clean her self up and remove the knots and tangle's in her long fur. As she did she noticed the tiny little shine growing down her tail to the little fish lost at the tip of her tail. It made her smell because the four fish found on her tail looked almost identical to the ones she had saved the day before! Over the next few weeks of her life she fell in love with the boy who shared the stream with her and everyday since she thinks of the blessing that fish gave her and works hard each and every day to look her best.

xxxxxhelena sat in the passenger seat of flynn's beat-up truck. "if you were really as mad at me as you wanna be, you wouldn't be driving me home." the black kalon sighed, and lena knew she was winning. "and, i know i shouldn't come to the cemetery after hours, but... the moon looked gorgeous!"
xxxxx"oh, so it was for pictures, huh? great," flynn huffed. "they're nice, you know, but they're not helping you. even if i basically run the place, it doesn't mean you can just... prance around and take photos! it's disrespectful."
xxxxx"flynn. it's not disrespectful -- it's the opposite! all these lost souls are being remembered," she said, with a genuine smile. "besides, don't they look beautiful in the moonlight?" she started fiddling with the camera, trying to show them the pictures, but flynn put their hand on her arm.
xxxxx"it's fine." they grumbled. "i can't believe i'm letting you get away with this again. luck really is on your side."
xxxxx"see? i've got a guardian angel -- or a guardian shine, i guess." lena giggled.
xxxxxflynn rolled their eyes. "lena, our shines don't mean anything."
xxxxxshe shrugged. "i guess not." but, on the inside... she had a little faith that there was something watching over her.

xxxxxhelena is fairly average -- a quiet, nice, "girl-next-door" type of kalon. she blends into the background most of the time, and prefers to observe. as an aspiring photographer, lena would rather just sit back and capture the little pieces of others' lives.
xxxxxhowever, there's one thing a bit unusual about her. lena is incredibly lucky. she doesn't really know why; she just knows that it helps her out a lot. she constantly picks up loose change off the ground, and when you need to find something you've lost, lena's the gal to call. (don't even get started on how often she wins 20 bucks off scratch tickets. she hopes she'll hit the jackpot someday, but that's kind of a stretch.) helena likes to think that her tailshine, a halo and wings, are a lucky charm. she says that they're a "guardian angel" that guides her along. it's silly, but she firmly believes it.

xxxxxhelena is passionate about three things -- her photography, of course; her friends and family; and, last but not least, the winter.
xxxxxthere's something so romantic about the gentle flurry of snowflakes, the january chill seeping deep into your bones, yet leaving your heart feeling as warm as ever... the wintertime is magical. it's cold, but beautiful.
not only is the winter beautiful, but even the harshest of storms is no match for helena's fluffy coat. she gets overheated easily, and much prefers the darker months to the sunny, overbearing summer. the summer is simply too hot for such a thick-furred kalon. she just... doesn't get cold.
xxxxxputting two and two together -- the winter beauty, and the lack of getting too cold -- it's easy to assume that lena tries pulling all kinds of stupid stunts during the snowy months.
xxxxxfrom walking ten feet out onto a barely frozen lake to running around during a blizzard wearing only pajamas (with an expensive camera, to boot), helena will do anything to get the perfect picture. (one time, flynn had to kick her out of the cemetery for attempting to camp out. lena wanted a shot of "that one big tree" covered in snow with the sunrise in the background. needless to say, the little black kalon wasn't very excited.) it seems like someone wasn't paying attention during the grammar school "winter safety" psas.

xxxxxwhile it may not seem apparent at first, lena lacks self confidence. she hates her own obnoxious laugh, her tendency to embarrass herself, and her lack of common sense. helena sees herself as an easily replaceable cog in the machine of life.
xxxxxhowever, helena is still an optimist. while she doesn't necessarily like herself, she thinks that there's good in the world. her outlook is less of "i'm not great; so why even bother?" and more "i'm not great; so why not just go for it?"
xxxxxthis doesn't stop lena from trying to charm her way out of things, though -- especially with poor flynn. she likes to play up the cute and innocent aspect of her appearance to try and get herself out of trouble. it works... sometimes. more often than not, lena gets yelled at. (or has the threat of "i'm gonna call the cops" against her for sneaking onto private property.) it seems that those lucky angel wings on her tail can't keep her out of trouble all the time.

xxxxxwhile it's easy to see why helena loves photography, why she takes so many pictures isn't quite as obvious. although it seems like lena is just some dumb kid messing around with a camera, she really is passionate about what she does. helena wants to preserve little pieces of other people's lives -- people who are usually just a part of the background, like herself. (and, of course, she always asks permission to use stuff, since some people aren't into that.) lena loves capturing little everyday moments -- someone eating ice cream, a small kit and an elderly kalon talking together, a lady with a nice hat sitting on the bus. small things grab her attention. helena isn't too deep or edgy; she enjoys the little bits and pieces of the world around her that make things so beautiful.
xxxxxas one might expect, her photos don't ever really go anywhere, even if she tries selling them or trying to market herself as a photographer. (well, her grandmother has one of her winter landscape shots hanging on the wall, and her parents have their own collection of her works, but that's about it.) helena is okay with that, though. she works in retail, and scrapes on by to support herself. as long as she can do what she loves to do, even if she doesn't make any money off of it, helena is happy.
