Ezekiel is not afraid of anything, and likewise he will never be fully tamed. Somewhere between those thundering hooves and tangled mane, a spark of wanderlust and “I can take on the world” got trapped and you can see it in his every movement. He’s that one horse in a trillion that can live his life on the road, always in and out of trailers and new stalls, never around the same horse twice, and be completely happy. That’s just the kind of horse that he is. Without that same spark inside of you, you’d never be able to get close, let alone touch his greatness.
In a herd this horse is the clear leader. He sets the pace and makes the rules. If he wants to see what’s on the other side of that fence, beyond the tree line, or what’s making that noise, the entire herd is coming with him. His fearlessness is contagious to the other horses. No matter how afraid of water they are, or how big that fallen log looks, with Ezekiel in the herd every one of them can overcome the challenge.
His fearlessness can get him into some tight spots, he’s come face to face with deadly predators more than once, but his resourcefulness and intelligence will get him out most of the time.
Even horses as great as he is have a downfall, though. When kept in one place too long, or forced into a routine with no room for deviation, Ezekiel falls into what can only be described as depression. He’ll stop eating, paw at the bedding in his stall endlessly, sometimes he’ll even get aggressive. His need to constantly learn new things, to face new challenges, is a blessing, but without those it’s his curse, too.
